The doorbell rang, sending a chiming sound throughout the small cabin. They’ve finally made it! Zoe had been a little worried that they wouldn’t be able to find the place. It was her family’s cabin. It was placed right on the outskirts of town, with a huge lake in the backyard and completely surrounded by dense pine and fir trees.

Opening the front door, there stood her best friends: Camila, Matt and Zacky. Zoe flashed her eyes at Zacky, getting a little lost in the emerald sparkle they held. They had been seeing each other on the down low for weeks, but had been keeping it a secret. Even from Matt and Camila. The pair weren’t sure if it would work, transitioning from best friends to lovers… and then there was the fear that they’d break up and hate each other.

But she couldn’t help the butterflies she got looking at him.

Brown and red leaves fell slowly through the air and the crisp October air blew briskly over the front porch. “Did you guys have a hard time finding it?” Zoe smiled as she moved out of the way to let them in.

They stepped basically right into the living room, where the television was already playing some horror movie Zoe had chosen earlier from Netflix. Cell service didn’t work out here, but thankfully you could still get internet. “Make yourselves comfy.” Zoe disappeared back into the kitchen.

She had brought a lot of junk food to snack on and a couple pizzas they could bake, but for the moment she opened the fridge and started rifling around to find where she had shoved the case of beer.
Matt had been the designated driver on their trip out of town to the cabin. Their friend had invited them out for the weekend to stay, promising horror movies and alcohol. Of course, Matt would’ve agreed to come regardless of that. He usually always hung out with his best friends on the weekends anyways, if college or work wasn’t getting in the way.

Not for him anyway. After high school he had decided to focus on his music rather than his studies… so far, nothing had taken off. He looked over into the passenger seat at Camila, wondering if she ever thought he was a loser.

After they arrived at the cabin, Matt was the first out of the truck, grabbing multiple bags in both arms and headed for the porch. His big heavy boots crunching over every leaf in his path. Zoe opened the door to greet them and Matt quickly stepped inside and dropped all the bags to his feet. “This place is nice.” He smiled, his hands on his hips as he cranked his neck in different directions to look around. “Its like we’re hours from civilization.” He teased to Camila, walking over and poking her side. They were really only one hour from town, but looking out the windows and seeing nothing but trees and mountains… and no neighbors really made you believe otherwise.

Secretly, when Zoe had invited them out for the weekend, he had been giddy at the idea of being alone out in the woods for three whole days with Camila. This weekend had to be the perfect time to make a move .
