The cool breeze that brushed past Novalee's bare arms was the first sensation that started to wake the young girl. Small goosebumps started to raise on her soft skin. A shuttered sounding breath followed as the fool wind caused her toes to curl and a small groan to escape from her lips. Nova was not accustomed to sleeping with her bedroom window open. Nor was she expecting the spring breeze to be so cool so early in the morning.
Slowly, Novalee emitted a small groan as she started to wake up more from her deep sleep. Her bright green eyes slowly fluttered open as the smell of fall hit her nose. That cool leafy sort of smell, mixed with fresh crisp air hit her and caused confusion to swirl inside of Nova's mind. "Wha-" She didn't finish her question as she quickly moved into a sitting position. Her hands resting on both sides of her, causing the leaves she had been sleeping on to crunch underneath her.
"Where-" Just as Novalee started to glance around her surroundings the sound of hooves sounded in the near distance. "In the name of the high lord, halt!" Someone was shouting towards her. Nova could barely make out the man on the horse, or the two others who followed him. She didn't care to look into them though, as she scrambled to her feet and turned her back to them as she started to run. Nova didn't want to know what these guys were after, nor did she want to find out, so she ran. Ignoring the cold that her thin
pj's let in, her legs booking it as she tried to outrun horses, which she knew was a terrible idea, because she barely made it half a yard before one of the men in leather and what looked like chain-mail freaking tackled her to the ground.
"Ow! Stop, you're hurting me!" Nova cried out as the man grabbed her arms to stop her flailing. The man ignored her as he tied her wrists. "Wait." Another voice said, which was probably from one of the other men who were chasing her. "She's human." The words went in one ear and out the other for Nova, as she didn't realize what was going on as she was in to much of a frenzy to care about such things. She just knew that she was terrified for her life. "Ow." She mumbled again as the big guy who had tackled her not so gently, grabbed her shoulder and flipped her onto her back like she was a sack of flour and stared down at her. "She is." The first guy said eyes narrowed. Nova narrowed her eyes back in resistance, even though she was so scared she was about to pee her pants. Then, she noticed his ethereal sort of grace, followed by those slightly pointed ears. Nova dared glance away from the beautiful face of her captor to look at the other two guys and saw the same sort of thing.
"F-fae?" She breathed out, Nova's eyes widening slightly. "Someone sends word to the lord, he'll want to know what we found." The second guy ordered. "Already on it." The third, the quiet one, said and got a slightly glazed look in his eyes before nodding to the other two. "He wants her brought to him."

The thunderous sound of the large metal gates of the throne room banged open as the High Lord of the Night Court stormed into the room. His advisors flinching at the sound of the doors echoing around the room. Their sensitive ears ringing at the sound, but their faces showed no hint of it as they stood straight as the Lord moved with grace. His grace and power seeping into every corner of the room as he walked. His dark boots making light thuds as he moved. Not a word escaping from his lips as he made his way to the large throne that sat on top of the dias.
Reaching the dais, Drake took two long steps before he turned and sat down on his throne that was made of the darkest wood imaginable. Small figures carved on the sides, shapes of breasts that fill the nightmares of those with weak souls. Things that could scare people to death if they so much as look them in the eyes. Crossing one leg over the other, Drake's dark brown eyes narrowed, his lips set into a deep frown as he looked at the three advisors. "How the
fuck did a trespasser get into our territory without anyone noticing?" He barked, causing his advisors to flinch. The Night Court was on the edge of the continent. They had large snow-covered mountains along the edges of the territory that were hard for even the most weathered adventurer second-guessing going over them. Much less having the balls to appear in their land unannounced.
"M-my apologies, M-my Lord." One of the advisors stuttered, kneeling, the other two following suit. Drake sneered at the man who spoke, Fredrick was his name, his blonde hair stuck out in the dark contrast of the room as well as the rest of the night court. The man a rare occurrence in the court, born from another court, but made his way here and rose through the ranks to lead advisor. "I didn't ask for an apology Fredrick, I asked how the hell someone got through our defenses and wound up so near the palace that we just got word of them five minutes ago." The wood of the throne groaned in protest as Drake's hands' grip on the arms of the chair squeezed with his Fae strength, threatening to splinter the word if he so chose to. Destroying the throne that's been in the care of the Night Court for eight hundred years was not in Drake's interest, but he would do so if he didn't control his temper.
Another one of the advisors tried to utter an apology, but with one look from Drake, they shut their mouth. No one had an answer it seemed and the guards at the door kept their gazes down, a wise decision in Drake's mind. Keeping their respect for his obvious as his anger grew with each moment that past without word on who the hell got into his territory and no one finding them.
"You know what." The High Lord said, having enough the silent waiting game. His sentries were out searching for the intruder. The soldiers that were under his command splitting into small units to join the senteries as they didn't know if the intruder was dangerous or not. They just got the feeling of magic being used in the northern part of the territory, in a deserted part of the Court. An area where no one but the High Lord was allowed to venture. It was a sacred place for the High Lords of the Court, it was their one place to retreat for some privacy that they often lacked in the palaces that littered around other areas of the territory. "I'm going out to find this trespasser, and when I get back with them. You are all in for a punishment." An with that, the High Lord used his power and vanished into the shadows. Walking towards the area where the surge of power had appeared.
Arriving at the site of where the magic had been detected, Drake stepped out of the shadows and into a small clearing. His eyes closing as he breathed in the smells around him. A small hum escaping him as he smelled something he hadn't smelled in centuries, a human. "It seems a little rabbit has ventured out of its hutch." Drake mused and strode towards where the scent was strongest. His dark
clothing making him hard to see as he walked under the trees, the low morning light helping him as well as he walked quietly.
To the utter annoyance of the High Lord, he was able to find the human quite easily, while his men seemed to have trouble. The incompetent fools. Pulling his lips into a thin line, Drake moved towards the human girl who seemed to be laying on the cool ground like she was asleep. Her clothing seemed weird to him, not the normal nightgowns that the women here wore. As he neared her, Drake kneeled next to the girl and pressed his middle and pointer fingers to her forehead. He could feel her life force under his fingers. Then, he slowly trailed his fingers down the side of her face, down her cheek. His dark eyes taking in the girl's appearance. She looked quite, delectable, for a human. "Hey." He said, in a quiet voice. "This isn't the best place to be sleeping." He mused, his hand that was just brushing against her cheek trailed down her neck, stopping just above where her collarbone was. It's so damn easy for Drake to wrap his fingers around her neck and end her before she woke up. Without even having to use any of his magic, but he wasn't interested in that. No, he wanted to know how the damn human got onto his land, then, he'll decide what to do with her.
