Annie looked at Steve, “I’ll be okay Steve. I just don’t want to have to live up to someone. I mean get it she was important to you. And you barely know me so..” she fixed her skirt as she spoke. “Maybe we were meant to be just friends.”

‘Your not going to live up to anybody. I told you I am not comparing you to her and I am not hung up on her. I want to try with you,’ he looked sad and hurt that he was being pushed away like that.

Annie looked at Steve “I’m sorry, I just don’t want to get hurt again” she whispered. The last thing she needed was a broken heart, after she had put the pieces back together.

‘I’m not going to hurt you Annie. I promise. I won’t be like whoever hurt you,’ he took her hands gently, ‘I want to try. I just didn’t want to go into this with secrets. I wanted to be open and honest with you. I want you to know me.’

Annie looked at Steve a weak smile on her face as he touched her hands and then gently cupped her face. He was honest. She could tell, “all right, I guess I should be honest with you too, I don’t know where to start”

Annie blushed “okay.. un I. Don’t know how or where to start.” She walked along with Steve. “I’ve been single for awhile, I was almost married... til I found out my ex was sleeping with my best friend” she spoke softly.

Annie blushed deeply as they continued to walk, “thanks, its awful and I just want to move on and start over.. which is why I started writing you. Make new friends.. maybe even dateagain “

He nodded, ‘I’m glad you did. Is it to early to tell you I’ll never hurt you like he did. I want you to know I’m not that kind of person.’

Annie nodded “I believe you, you have an honest face” she smiled softly, taking his hands and rubbing them gently.

He blushed as she did that. He squeezed her hands back gently, ‘would you maybe want to get dinner with me tonight and go see a movie?’

Annie smiled softly “I would love to go to dinner with you Steve,”

‘I know a place that’s been open since the forties. It hasn’t closed. A friend of mine ran that place and passed it down to his sons. They have tried to keep it as authentic as possible to that time era.’

Annie smiled “that sounds great Steve, tonight sound okay then?”

‘It sounds perfect and you can pick any movie you want to see in theaters. Any movie.’

Annie smiled “I think I just want to spend time with you.” She kissed his cheek and smiled widely

He blushed, ‘in that case, how about instead of a movie, I take you out dancing after dinner?’

Annie grinned, “I should go home and pick o it my best dress then” she held his hand as they walked

‘Would you like me to walk you home?’ He asked as they went along. He would feel better walking her home but it was no pressure.
