Annie turned around and smiled softly at Bucky, “good,” she remembered when she first started dating Steve she’d make him a little uncomfortable. He’d never been with a woman before. Bucky was the ladies man, was being the word. Still, she could see why he was so handsome, After washing here face and brushing her teeth with an extra toothbrush she went back and sat next to him.

Annie smiled “let’s see if we can sleep tonight huh?” She was quick to get under the covers biting her lip while staring at Bucky. His eyes had so much story behind them, they were warm and concerned. She was starting to feel something for the man, and her sadness wears slowly going away.

Bucky listened to her, pulling the blanket up so they could both slide underneath. His skin was crawling and he couldn't help but feel a little bit icky at the situation. He had to keep telling himself, Steve abandoned them and Bucky was just trying to make sure he and Annie made it out okay. He couldn't help the way he was feeling, especially when he rolled on his side and slid his body towards hers. He wrapped his arms around her waist and was immediately embraced by her warmth.

"It should be easier to sleep now."

Annie could feel some uneasiness on Bucky’s side but she knew why, after Steve left it felt a little weird. She scored closer to him feeling his bulky and warm body on her small frame. Annie let out a small sigh of relief escape her lips, “I’m already comfortable.” She could hear his heartbeat it was nice, she slowly closed her eyes. It was nice being embraced by someone it had been a few weeks since Steve had left. He was still here, but he was old meaning he decided to abandoned them.

Annie was asked to see Steve by the team but she refused, they had told her he wanted to “explain” what happened but she wasn’t having it, told them he could stick it where the sun don’t shine.

Bucky wrapped his arms around her and rested his head gently against hers. He ran his fingers through her hair, tangling his hand in the strands of her hair. "Me too." He whispered, his arm tightening around her waist.

He hoped she wouldn't take advantage of him. He was just as lonely and vulnerable, and longing for something that he was missing. Steve leaving had brought it to the surface, he had been running from something his whole life. He was tired of being lonely. It was for this reason he couldn't see Steve now. He didn't want to have to face his demons, but he was afraid Annie would still make him. He was afraid once she got over her hurt for Steve, she would disappear from him too.

Annie breathed softly, her eyes closed she was very relaxed now, as Bucky held her. She knew how much Bucky had gone through and he needed her as much as she needed him. She slowly turned around so Annie’s face was facing Bucky, reaching to touch his face “Bucky, I hope you know that I would never intentionally hurt you, I care a lot about you. You’re helping me pick up all the pieces, and I hope I can do the same for you” she whispered.

Steve has made his choice and If he ever decided to come back with whatever contraption Annie would just not have it. She was not going to do that to Bucky. She held his hands in her own, the metal felt cool in her own but she liked the feel of both hands.

Bucky found it hard to look up at her, he wasn't used to be so broken in front of someone. "I know." He spoke in a whisper, because part of him didnt know if he really believed himself when he spoke. You could never truly know if someone would stay with you or leave. It never stopped hurting any less the more it happened either. They had lost so many people, but Steve....

He pulled his hand away to rub his eye, wiping away the tears that were building up before they could fall. "We will be okay." He forced himself to look up at her and to give her a smile.

It hurt to see Bucky so sad, his best friend since the 30s just left him and he was having to cope with him leaving. She touched his face gently, “we have each other Buck we will be okay. Thanks for always having my back.” She snuggled up to him, it wasn’t weird at all like she thought it would be.

She relaxed and closed her eyes, “I’ll be here as long as you need me Buck, you’re such a nice guy you deserve peace and reassurance “

Bucky sighed, pressing her tightly against his chest. He rested his head on hers and shut his eyes. He had never felt so comfortable in his life. The only thing that could stop him from sleep now could only be his sadness, but with Annie here, even that was starting to bother him less and less.

"Thank you." He whispered, his lips pressed against her hair. He finally shut his eyes to go to sleep.

Annie was completely at ease with Bucky, she slept so comfortably no thinking about Steve or how he hurt her. It was just Bucky’s beautiful smile and the way he made her feel. She hoped this wasn’t any rebound feelings because she didn’t want to do that to him. Annie cared about Bucky a lot and she just wanted them to be happy. After everything he went through he deserves it.

The next morning Annie had woken up snuggled up to Bucky and she felt herself blush as she looked at his sleeping face. So peaceful, she was sure this was the first time he had gotten a peaceful sleep in awhile.

Bucky had been able to sleep through the rest of the night without waking up once, which was a surprise to him. He still hadn't had the best of dreams, but nonetheless, it was an improvement. The moment he felt Annie start to shift around in his arms, Bucky slowly peeled his eyes open, wondering what time it was. Sunlight was already streaming through the blinds into the room, giving the room a pale yellow tone. "How did you sleep?"

Annie smiled looking into Bucky’s blue eyes, they were beautiful, “I slept really good actually the first time in a long time.” She beamed, “I think it’s because you we’re here and held me.” She wanted to kiss his nose for some reason but didn’t, “want breakfast? I make mean waffles” she grinned. Annie sat up and stretched.

"If I have the stuff for it." Bucky laughed, sitting up in bed himself and running a hand through his hair. He didn't keep a fully stocked kitchen, especially not lately. He barely ate. But waffles didn't take much, he was sure he had some flour and eggs... He stood up on his feet and stretched, "Waffles do sound good though," he turned to Annie and smiled.

Annie nodded as she walked to the kitchen to start making waffles, she found everything she needed and started cooking. Humming softly as she cooked, this felt nice, staying at Bucky's it was peaceful and she loved every moment of it. “I need to get some syrup..”

Bucky entered the kitchen, smelling the frying pancake batter from the hallway. "Syrup?" He tugged his shirt down around his waist, fixing the sleeves before going to the fridge. "Maybe the cabinet?" He searched around for it, before finally finding an unopened bottle in one of the cupboards. He sat it down on the counter next to her and crossed his arms over his chest, watching her cook.

Annie smiled “thanks,” she made sure to make a huge stack because Bucky had a fast Metabolism so he needed to eat a lot. “Well I didn’t see a waffle iron so it’s gonna be pancakes, hope you like that.” Annie turned around and looked at Bucky “oh hi”

"Hello." Bucky laughed, straightening up from leaning on the counter. He took the plate from her hands and grabbed the syrup once more and took it over to the kitchen table. He drowned his pancakes in the sweet syrup, wondering to himself how long it had been since he had a meal that was anything other than fast food. "Thank's Annie." He smiled, cutting into the pancakes.

Annie finished serving herself before taking a seat in front of Bucky, “you know I’d do anything for you Bucky, you’re my best bud.” Annie started eating, wondering about these feelings in her heart. “Do you have any missions soon?”

"I don't know..." He frowned, chewing on the inside of his lip. "I haven't really been talking to anyone lately." He felt guilty about it, he had practically just gone ghost on everyone, hiding out in this little apartment he rented. Bucky was tired of the fighting and of losing people, he just felt like he needed a break.

Annie reached for his hand “Bucky it’s okay to be sad and depressed I know I am, let’s just do it together.” She gently rubbed the top of his metal hand, “you need time to yourself being away from them is probably good for you. Hopefully I can help fill that void he left. Because you’re filling my void. Thank you.”

Bucky smiled up at Annie and picked his fork up, stabbing it gently into the fluffy pancakes. "I know, your right..." He still couldn't help feel a little guilty for just disappearing... He felt his heart flutter at the way she spoke to him and couldn't help the blush that was surely burning his cheeks. "You're definitely helping me, Annie. Last night was the first time I've slept in weeks..."
