Rowen had never really lived in a time where omegas were treated like slaves. In this day, they were still fighting for equality and rights, but it wasn't like when her parents had been young. Luckily enough for her, the alpha of her family had been kind and had raised her to be her own person, to take care of herself. Her parents had told her stories from their childhoods when omegas couldn't even leave their homes without their alpha, and even though it seemed like omegas still had a lot to push for, Rowen couldn't imagine a life like that.
What she was doing tonight would be impossible if she lived in the world her mother had grown up in. Tonight, her and a couple of her other friends were going out bar hopping. A group of unclaimed omegas. While it was just supposed to be a night of fun, Ro still couldn't help but feel a bit paranoid, a little nervous... It wasn't often she stayed out so late, especially around the bar scene. It didn't help that she was only almost twenty, the ID she carried in her purse to get her into the bars, a blatant fake. But it had worked.
"Would you loosen up?" Kate smiled, pushing a bright blue shot in her direction. Picking the small glass up, Rowen lifted it to her nose and took a sniff. All she could smell was sugar. That was probably a good thing. Rowen wasn't sure why she had felt so on edge, she had taken her suppressants that morning and that that should be enough to cover her scent, or at least mask it. And they were in such a tiny, crowded bar. Scents were everywhere, it was almost impossible to pin point down just one...
Slowly lifting the glass to her lips, Ro felt a cold chill run down her spine. Her head snapped to the left, towards what she thought was a powerful, alluring scent, but she kept her gaze down, not wanting to make eye contact with whoever it was. It was an overbearing scent, and now that her nose had locked on to it, she couldn't shake it. It smelled like the forest after a heavy rain, but musky too, like a bonfire. It reminded her of summer. Closing her eyes, she threw back the shot, but continued to hold the glass tightly in her hand.
Rowen forced herself to glance out of the corner of her eye, and immediately she saw who the scent was coming from. He was a soldier, that was clear. The man still wore his dirty green t-shirt that had the american flag patched on the side, his last name stitched on the left side above his chest. Syverson. Ro could read it from where she sat. There had been a parade in their little town earlier, welcoming home the troops who had returned from overseas after the war. The smell of it was all over him, but not enough to hide his true scent. Looking back towards her friends, she eyed up the bartender asked for another shot. Anything to try and distract herself from the man she couldn't get out of her mind. The omega inside of her was trembling, begging to go to the stranger. His scent would smell so good mixed up in hers, honey and fields of lavender.
The thought alone terrified her. Again, she knew she had been lucky to grow up in a home with such a sensitive, caring alpha for a father, but she had been told again and again that that was a rare occurrence. Ro had never wanted to be taken by an alpha, and so far she had done a good job of avoiding them.
"Maybe we should get out of here?" She leaned towards her friend when the bartender brought out her second shot. "There's so many people in here, I'm feeling a little claustrophobic..."
