Thistle frowned as he poked at the flames, knowing she would have questions at some point. He had only hoped it wouldn't have been so soon, wanting to have had enough time to think up a few lies. But he had none.

"I uh..." He chewed on the inside of his cheek, keeping his violet eyes trained on the fire in front of him, focusing more on it than he did on what he was about to say. There was no possible chance he could tell her the truth, without her thinking he was insane. Sure, he looked strange, with his purple hair and his violet eyes, but he didn't know if that alone would be enough to convince Lucile on what he was. "My sister and I live alone, farther out in the woods. ...Way farther out." It wasn't entirely a lie, but he also didn't know if she would believe it.

Thistle turned away from the fire once it was roaring, and only then did he looked up at Lucile. "I knew she had been stealing your firewood and I had come out to bring it back, at a good time too, I suppose. I was on my way back from your home, after stacking the wood back outside when I came across you. I saw you slip through the ice."

He hoped he would believe her. If he could keep her from finding out what he truly was, perhaps his elders would show him mercy when he returned home.

"O-Oh.." She murmured as he explained, brows knitting together in concern. The story made sense, but something was off about it. She didn't know of anyone else living in these woods, and if they'd moved here recently she certainly would have known about them. But she was too tired to dwell on it for too long, closing her eyes as she curled further into the blankets.

"I-If you needed the firewood, a-all you had to do was ask.." She murmured after a while, still shivering despite the fire warming the room. "I-I would have given you whatever you needed.." She did her best to help people when she could, whether it was fixing a neighbor's fence, painting the outside of the post office, making food for a sick neighbor, or sharing firewood with strangers. She didn't mind.

After a bit more silence she opened her eyes again, looking at him with a little pout, eyebrows knit together in worry. "I-I-I'm r-really cold, Th-Thistle.." She murmured, tugging the blanket as close as she could. "A-Am I dying?"

Thistle could only sigh when she offered the aid, knowing full well Wisteria hadn't stolen the firewood because they needed it. Lucile didn't need to know that though. How would he explain to her that it had been done out of malice, just a fairy playing a little trick? He wouldn't even know where to begin. "I apologize for my sister," was all he could muster, turning his attention back to the fire for a moment, to make sure it was still crackling.

It became quiet between them for a few moments, the only sounds to be heard was the howling cold wind that beat against the house and the roaring of the fire. Thistle was lost deep in thought, wondering how he was going to talk his way out of trouble when he returned home. He only perked back up when he heard Lucile, her tongue stumbling over his name.

"You're not going to die," he assured her, turning around so he could fully face her. "We just have to keep you warm, until your body is back to normal." Resting his hand on his knees, he pulled himself up off the floor. "I'm sure you're starving. If you don't mind, I could make use of your kitchen? Whip you up something to eat?" Thistle was sure if she had a bit of food, it would help her to feel better and warm her right up.

Lucile frowned a little as he said she wasn't going to die, feeling like he wasn't being completely honest with her. She felt like she was dying, or that she was cold enough to die. She watched as he stood, giving a little nod when he asked to use her kitchen before forcing herself to sit up, wrapping the blankets around her shoulders before standing, shuffling after him as they went into her tiny kitchen.

She spent a few minutes pointing out where her pots and pans and dishes were, along with her pantry and fridge, before shuffling over to the little table she had set up by the window, figuring it would be better to sit there with him in case he needed anything. She was quiet for a while, tugging her blankets around her a bit tighter, letting out a little sigh as she watched him for a while.

"Th-Thank you for helping me, Thistle.. I-I know you don't have to.." she murmured, resting her head against the window, gazing out at the snow quietly.

Thistle let his eyes roam around the kitchen, listening attentively to her as she pointed out where she kept everything. Faes never really had to cook, but he had picked up a few things from the people watching he liked to do. Grabbing a pan, he placed it on one of the hobs on the stove, turning the heat to a medium as he moved to her fridge.

Pulling out some eggs, he glanced towards Lucile as she shuffled over to the dining table and took a seat. "Are you sure you're okay to sit up?" Thistle couldn't help but question her, wanting to make sure she was comfortable. He gave her a little shrug once she thanked him, a sheepish smile rising to his face as he cracked two of the eggs into the pan. "Don't even mention it, it's the least I could do."

He listened to the sizzling eggs, taking a fork to scramble them up. Looking back into the fridge, Thistle found a few things he could use to chop up and add into the eggs, some ham, onions and green peppers. Dicing up the extras, he tossed them into the eggs as they cooked. The kitchen was beginning to smell absolutely delicious and he only hoped it would taste half as good as it smelled.

"I-I'm fine.." Lucile insisted, tugging the blankets around her shoulders as she settled into the chair. It wasn't nearly as comfortable as the couch had been, or how comfortable she imagined her bed to be. But truth be told, she was a bit scared to be alone right now. Not that she didn't trust Thistle, more so she was afraid she'd get sick or something would happen and she wouldn't have the strength to call out for help.

"You risked your life when you didn't have to.. I'll have to find a way to thank you properly once I'm feeling better.." she murmured, her breath fogging up the windowpane as she gazed out into the snow, reaching up after a moment to draw a little flower and an odd symbol which her grandmother had taught her. To her it was nonsense, just something the old woman had made up as part of her stories about the Fae that supposedly lived in the woods, but little did she know that it actually was what her grandmother had told her, a rune for protection. Her grandfather had even carved the same rune above the front door, although the weather over the years had caused it to fade considerably.

"S-Smells good.." she murmured after a while, blushing a bit as her stomach grumbled hungrily. She hadn't eaten dinner last night on account of her accident, so she was grateful that he was so willing to make her something. "Help yourself to whatever you want in the fridge.. I-I don't mind sharing."

Thistle's eyes narrowed as he watched her draw on the window, forcing himself to look away and forget about it. Though the question remained in the back of his mind, how did she know that rune? It was better to wave it off then linger on it.

Plating some of the eggs for her, Thistle turned in her direction, bringing it rest on the table in front of her. "Don't worry about thanking me any more than you already have. You've sheltered me from a blinding blizzard that I most likely would've gotten lost in, had I left here last night."

Turning back to the stove, he plated himself a bit of the eggs, though he was sure he most likely wouldn't take even a bite of them. Coming to sit across the table from Lucile, he noticed the slight blush that tinted her face. Almost wondering why it was. "We can call it even?" He laughed, before looking down at the table.

"Oh, silly me," he laughed, forcing himself back up on his feet. "I suppose a fork would come in handy." Heading back over to the stove, Thistle looked around the drawers until he found her silverware. "There we are," he smiled, grabbing two forks and bringing them back to the table.

Lucile turned her attention away from the window and the blizzard outside to the plate in front her, stomach grumbling hungrily as she sat up a bit. "That's not thanking you, that's just doing the right thing.. There's a difference, you know.." she murmured, looking across the table as he sat down across from her. She gave a little nod when he suggested they call it even, looking down at her eggs.

"We call it even.." she agreed, and although she was starving, she didn't dare point out that he'd forgotten the silverware, not wanting to seem ungrateful for everything else. She smiled a little when he noticed the missing forks on his own, watching him curiously as he searched the kitchen before returning with the utensils, her cold fingers brushing against his warm ones as she took the fork from him.

"Thank you.." she mumbled around a mouthful of eggs, taking a few large bites to stop her stomach from grumbling as much, before she sat back in her chair a little to eat at a more reasonable pace. "..Why are your eyes purple? And your hair?" She asked curiously after a moment, blurting the question out before she could stop herself, a blush heating up her cheeks in embarrassment. "I-I mean, it couldn't be natural, but it looks it.."

Thistle wasn't about to argue with Lucile in her own home, but part of him wanted to point out that they wouldn't have found themselves in this situation had his blasted sister not stolen from her in the first place. He didn't feel like any sort of thanks were in order, at least not to him from Lucile. Sitting back down in his chair, he gave her a small smile, until she began to ask questions. The smile slipped from his face, replaced with a look of dread. "I..." He swallowed thickly around a lump in his throat, his eyes falling to the table before him as he sought out any kind of an explanation.

He dragged in a deep breath when she mentioned how it couldn't be natural, and he wondered if he could ride off of that, but his expression had probably already given him away. It didn't feel right lying to her, especially after he had slept in her home and was now eating her food. But if he told her the truth, there would be no going back. And who knows what sort of reaction she might have? He was already in enough hot water as it was.

"Just a style choice," he forced a laugh, hoping that would be enough for her and she would let the question die.

Lucile frowned a bit when she saw how upset he looked by her questions, shaking her head quickly as her brows knit together in worry. "I didn't mean to upset you, Thistle.. You don't have to say anything if you don't want to, I didn't mean to pry, honest.." She murmured worriedly, turning back to her eggs to shovel a few more mouthfuls into her mouth, feeling guilty for upsetting him. She didn't really understand why a question about his hair and eye color would upset him so much, but she had clearly struck a cord, and she worried that he'd be cold to her for the rest of their time together, which, given the intensity of the blizzard outside, might be a few days.

She glanced up at him again when he forced a laugh, looking at him nervously. "I-I'm sorry if I upset you.. I-I can go eat by myself, a-and I can take care of myself from now on, so you don't need to worry about me, but you can still stay here, and help yourself to whatever you need.. I'm really sorry, Thistle, truly.."

Thistle looked back up from his hands when Lucile began to frantically apologize. Great, that was the last thing he wanted to do, upset her. "No, please, Lucile, you didn't upset me." He reached out for her hand when she started to pick her plate up off of the table. He didn't really realize it just yet, but Thistle had put everything at risk to save her life. It was almost likely that when he returned home, he'd be shunned or locked away for ages. If he ended up leaving her home knowing they were on bad terms, what was it all for?

"Stay." His brow furrowed together as he looked upon her. "I'm sure you can take care of yourself, just fine. But it doesn't help to have a friend watching your back, does it?" Another laugh escaped him, but this time, it was genuine. Thistle hoped he wouldn't have to worry about her anymore, at least when it came to his mischievous sister. Hopefully, she had learned her lesson about playing deadly tricks on humans. "I guess I'm just a little self conscious about my looks..." His voice dipped and he found himself staring back down at his hands again. It was a complete lie, but it was safer for Lucile if she didn't know the truth.

Lucile froze when she felt his hand on hers, his fingers so much warmer than hers. She couldn't help but curl her cold fingers around his, looking at him a bit nervously as he began to speak, although she blinked in surprise when he said he was her friend. "You.. You'd want to be my friend?" She asked curiously after a moment. Friendship meant that they'd see each other again, which was something she knew she wouldn't mind, but she wanted to be sure he wasn't just trying to be polite.

She tilted her head a bit as he said that he was self conscious about his hair, giving his hand a little squeeze as her cheeks heated up in a blush as she blurted out the first thing that came to mind. "You shouldn't be self conscious, you're very handsome. I like your hair, and your eyes, they're like the lavender and other wildflowers that grow in the meadows during the spring."

Thistle felt his face heating up, almost positive a pink blush was tinting his cheeks and nose. "We could be friends, yes. I'd like that." Thistle couldn't promise he'd be able to see her again, but if he returned to his realm and was able to dig himself out of the mess he found himself in... He could at least watch over her and make sure no harm came to pass.

If he wasn't blushing before, he certainly was when Lucile called him handsome. "H-Handsome?" His eyes shot open at the confession, having never been complimented before, not even by anyone back home. Thistle normally kept to himself, never really catching the eye of any girls. At the mention of lavender fields, he calmed down. The Fae loved the spring, especially the fields of lavender she mentioned. It was often humans would catch glimpses of the creatures dancing in the fields, he could hear the elders lectures in his head about the dangers of it now. But still, that never stopped them.

"Thank you," he smiled, lifting his gaze back to meet Lucile's eyes. He wanted to compliment her back, and it wouldn't just be to return the formality. Thistle had found himself admiring Lucile repeatedly since they had met. He wasn't sure if it was just her, or if it was human girls in general, but something was captivating about her. "I've never been called handsome before."

Lucile smiled a bit when he said he wanted to be her friend, setting her fork down as she finished her eggs before she sat back in her chair. She didn't have many friends, so it'd be nice to have him as one. He was kind, unlike a lot of other people in town.

When she noticed his blush hers only got worse, the poor girl tugging her blanket around her tighter, as if trying to hide. She frowned a bit when he mentioned having never been called handsome before, shaking bee head a little as he thanked her. "You don't have to thank me.. And I'm sorry you've never heard it before, and that you're hearing it from me, since I'm pretty plain.. Mathilde Johnson is the prettiest girl in town, I'm sure you'd much rather hear compliments from her that from me." She offered him a weak smile, coughing a little as she stood.

"I think I should probably go lay down and try to warm up.. There are books and things around if you need something to keep you busy. I'm sorry there's no power, otherwise I'd suggest you could watch a movie.."

"Mathilde..." Thistle started to repeat the name, purely confused since he knew none of the other people in the town, let alone the person she was speaking of. He decided it was better to keep quiet, fearing that if she knew he didn't know any of the townsfolk, that might just draw more suspicion.

The poor boy just kept putting his foot in his mouth. It was obvious he had gone and embarrassed her, which had not been his intention. "I'll check the fire for you, first." Scooting his chair back, Thistle stood and collected the plates, taking them back to the sink where he left them. He had barely taken even a bite of his own food. Stacking the dishes in the sink, he told himself he'd come back to clean them after making sure the fire was still going.

Leading Lucile back into the living room, he only parted from her to go and sit by the fire. Picking the poker back up, he grabbed a piece of the wood from the pile he had brought inside so he wouldn't have to continuously head back out into the blizzard. "Go get some rest, okay? I'll manage to entertain myself."

Lucile noticed how confused he looked at the mention of Mathilde, making a mental note of the reaction but deciding not to say anything. She worked at the grocery store, and was there almost every day, so there was no way that he wouldn't know her if he went into town, which was the only store for miles. But she didn't want to pry and upset him, especially after the whole hair discussion, so she just nodded a bit when he said he'd check the fire for her, standing and moving back toward the living room.

She started toward the stairs but then paused to look at the couch, silently debating about whether or not she should try to go up the stairs by herself and get into bed, especially after not even making it into bed last night. She was still freezing, and even though she felt much better after eating, she felt weak and tired. She was standing around long enough for Thistle to check the fire and then turn back to talk to her, which startled her from her thoughts as she turned to look at him, a little frown appearing on her face, although it wasn't because of him.

"Alright.. I'll be upstairs if you need anything, ok?" She knew he wasn't familiar with her home, and if he needed anything and couldn't find it she hoped he'd wake her instead of just going without it for however long. She only made it a few steps up the stairs before she slipped, misplacing her foot on the edge of the step instead of the center of it, although she managed to catch herself on the rail before she tumbled down, banging her knee onto the edge of the step with a wince. She clung to the rail, terrified that if she let go she'd fall all the way down, chewing on her lip as she tried to decide whether or not to ask for help.

Thistle gave the young girl a small smile, nodding his head before turning away, giving his attention back to the fire. It wasn't a shocker that Thistle could be a little oblivious. But when seconds later he heard Lucile's breath catch in her throat, and a loud thud on the stairs, he was downright embarrassed. Scrambling to his feet and hurrying for the stairs, he went up the first few, until he was close enough to wrap his arms around Lucile. He should've known better, should've offered help. It'd been daft of him to think she was perfectly fine. "It's okay, you're fine, I have you," he assured her, one arm wrapping tightly around her sides, his other hand grabbing her hand that held the railing.

Helping her back to her feet, Thistle kept his arm around her waist, a slight blush rising to his cheeks from holding her so closely. Giving her a soft smile, he just cleared his throat and glanced up the stairs before returning his gaze to her. Without saying a word, he held most of her weight against himself as he began to lead her up the stairs. "I'm starting to think you're a little clumsy," he laughed, just poking a little fun at her to try and lighten the mood. In fear of insulting her, he quickly added that he was only playing, giving her an even warmer smile as they made it to the second floor. His arm loosened around her, though both hands went to her elbows to steady her. Leaving his grip there, he guided her the rest of the way down the hall into her room.

Checking the light switch, it turned out Lucile was correct. There was still no power. "C'mon, I'll light a candle, okay?" He didn't need any help to find his way towards her bed however. Patting his way up the cover, he pulled it down for her and waited patiently by her bedside to make sure she got in comfortably, before he turned away to her dresser and struck a match to light one of the candleholders. The little flame helped illuminate some of the room, he only hoped it was enough. "Do you need anything?" He asked her, before turning back towards where she lay on the bed.

Lucile's cheeks flushed red as Thistle was suddenly there beside her, giving a small but grateful nod as he said he had her, although she couldn't bring herself to meet his gaze. He must think that she was such a fool and weak for always needing his help, but she was grateful as he helped her up the stairs, one hand holding her blanket around her while her other held onto him, having wrapped her arm around his waist tightly and grabbed onto his shirt to keep herself steady. Her cheeks only flushed brighter at his teasing, but she gave a little nod and a small smile, feeling her heart flutter a bit in her chest as her eyes met his for a moment before she quickly looked away to focus on the steps in front of her.

At the top of the stairs she moved her arm away from his waist to instead hold onto his arm as he too adjusted his grip on her, shuffling along with him to her room, murmuring a soft "thank you" to him as he tugged the blankets back and helped her into bed, settling herself back against the blankets with a content little sigh as she spread her extra blanket over her lap, looking up at him as he lit a little candle to provide some light in the dim room. She thought for a few moments about his question about what else she needed, another faint blush heating up her cheeks as she glanced up at him nervously.

"Um.. If you don't mind, would you sit with me..? Just until I fall asleep. I just.. I worry something might happen if I'm alone, since it keeps happening.. You know?" She blushed, biting her lip nervously as she sunk a little lower against the pillows. "It's also fine if you say no, I'll be fine, I'm sure."
