Thistle frowned as he poked at the flames, knowing she would have questions at some point. He had only hoped it wouldn't have been so soon, wanting to have had enough time to think up a few lies. But he had none.
"I uh..." He chewed on the inside of his cheek, keeping his violet eyes trained on the fire in front of him, focusing more on it than he did on what he was about to say. There was no possible chance he could tell her the truth, without her thinking he was insane. Sure, he looked strange, with his purple hair and his violet eyes, but he didn't know if that alone would be enough to convince Lucile on what he was. "My sister and I live alone, farther out in the woods. ...Way farther out." It wasn't entirely a lie, but he also didn't know if she would believe it.
Thistle turned away from the fire once it was roaring, and only then did he looked up at Lucile. "I knew she had been stealing your firewood and I had come out to bring it back, at a good time too, I suppose. I was on my way back from your home, after stacking the wood back outside when I came across you. I saw you slip through the ice."
He hoped he would believe her. If he could keep her from finding out what he truly was, perhaps his elders would show him mercy when he returned home.
