A blaring tone, echoed through a darkened room. The figure on the bed shifted, an arm shooting out and hitting the snooze but on a clock sitting next to the bed. Mason groaned, he was not ready for the early starts to begin again. The semester was just starting up again, after a brief break. As he ran his hand through his light brown hair, Mason climbed out of bed, and headed to get ready for work. The room was a mess, clothes strewn about the floor, and shoes sitting wherever they landed when they were kicked off.

Once dressed and ready for work, Mason made his way towards campus. He was glad for the warmth of the sun on his face, as he walked across campus. Mason was a lecturer at the college, a was known for being a little different than most of the other lecturers. For one, he was much younger than most, but the thing that stood out most was his, peculiarity. Mason had a preference for everything to be in order, and for brevity. Quite often you would find that one of his lectures was completed within the first 30 minutes, the remainder of the block, used to assist with questions on assignments, of course work. Which made the fact his room was such a mess, so much more strange.

Mason made it to his office, a small usually very well organised corner space on the first floor of the faculty building. He began preparing his notes for his welcome back lecture, in which he planned on covering no new course work.

Pity, it was one thing that most people can't stand, and Emery wasn't any different. Shifting lightly she did her best to remain calm, as the man before her pour over her records. His eyes lifting every once in awhile, pity written on his features. She knew it was natural for him to conduct his review. However she just wish it didn't come at the cost of her comfortably. "Well Miss Grayson, it appears that all your paperwork is in order." He told her, before placing all the paper back into the folder. "The review board will have to approve your request. However most students don't get an extension." He warned. Nodding lightly she stood. "Thank you." She told him, before turning and moving out of his office. Sighing she felt a weight lifted. With her scholarships still intact she was able to return back to school. However her grades would be effected if she couldn't get her work for the past month turned in. While she'd been in the hospital she was able to keep up with some of the work, such as the basic classes and or classes her friends took. But classes such as the ones she was majoring in those were different. And she'd tried to speak with a few lecturers about getting school work in advance however they didn't share their lessons with anyone. Even when she told them she was having surgery and didn't know how long she'd be gone they still have no sympathy. And it was then that she'd decided that she'd not use the Cancer card on people. They didn't need to know her business and she didn't want to deal with pity.

Rounding the corner she headed towards her least favorite lecturer's classroom. However she stopped when she heard movement coming from Mr. Carter's room. Knocking on the door she figured if he wasn't busy she could speak to him about his lessons she'd missed. And maybe getting help on getting caught up.

Mason was busy muttering to himself, while he was away on break some had been in his office and moved things around. "I told them, to not bother cleaning my office while I was gone, that I had everything organised," he mumbled. Mason had struggled with change his whole life, and it was getting worse. Most of his colleagues knew why, at least the ones that bothered to get to know more than his academic side.

Mason continued to search for his files for the class that was to start in 30 minutes; which only served to irritate him more. "Ah found it," he mumbled quietly just as he heard a knock on his office door. He quickly shuffled back to his desk and sat down, "Come in," he called out.

He looked up as the door opened, he was surprised to see Ms Grayson, he hadn't seen her for awhile. The last he had heard was a vague email about needing time off, and wanting coursework or something. He smiled gently, "Ms Grayson, how was your break?" he asked politely.

"Uh, could have been better." She told him not wanting to get into the real reason why she'd take a leave. And she really just wanted to get this over with, she had a few other's she had to go groveling to. "Sorry to bother you, but." She tried to collect her thoughts. She'd honestly forgotten how intimating her was. She knew it stemmed from how attractive he was, but she didn't want to fawn of her lecturer. "I've been speaking with the Dean, and he said that at the Professor discretion, I can get an extension on the course work I've miss this past month." She told him. "I emailed everyone trying to get past work, but I never heard back from a few." She was rambling and didn't want to come out and call him out for ignoring her email. But she'd done as she was instructed to do. She'd reported her illness to the right people and since it was at her discretion she didn't have to tell the Professor her reason for needing the work. However to her understanding the Professor were suppose to email her back a list of work. But here she was still trying to get a few's lesson plans. "Well I was wondering if you had course work for the time I was out?" She wasn't sure if she was even getting her point out. But she was so nervous to be turned away that she was stumbling over herself.

Mason tapped away at his keyboard for a moment, pulling up his email. He listened closely to her. She was right, he hadn't responded to her email. "My apologies, it seems I did type out a reply to that query before the break, but never sent it," he explained lightly. Her stumbling, annoying him slightly, not that he let it show.

He read over the email again, which included no formal reason, just a note that the dean had approved the leave. He sighed softly, "The course work that we have covered in class, up until this point, will be discussed briefly in the lecture today, as for the assignments relating to that work," he began. He did some calculations, and looked at his calendar, "the first one you missed, get it to me by next Monday, the last one by the Monday after that, and all the others, in between," he said lightly.

He looked over at the pile of assignments on his desk, all of which he'd scanned through briefly, and were far to long for his liking. "I'll give you one freebie pointer, that might also make the task less daunting," he added. "A single page assignment, is perfectly okay to me, as long as it covers the set question, and answers it properly," he finished.

Nibbling on her lip she nodded softly, feeling completely dejected. She knew there was no way she'd be able to complete his set of assignments his class being one of the hardest. Deciding it was best to leave and not take up his time she offered him a weak smile. "Thank you." She said through there was no feeling to it. Turning she quickly to exited his room. Knowing she'd have a few hours before his lecture today. "Sorry for bothering you." She mutter out as she was leaving. She hated with the "adults" treated her like she was a child. Just because she was trying to make a life for herself and failing miserably didn't mean that she didn't deserve some respect. After all she wasn't pulling the cancer and to skate by and get things handed to her. No she actually wanted to learn and figure this out.

Shaking her head as she exited yet another Professor's room empty handed. This time it wasn't with a resolved date like Mr. Carter's. It was more like when I get to it you'll know. How was she suppose to work on something like that, rolling her eyes she decided she'd stop torturing herself for the time being and would get something to eat as she'd skipped breakfast. Stepping into the canteen, she browsed around before settling on an orange. It wasn't the most filling thing but it had Vitamin D and it help with her energy. Sitting down at the table she pulled out her books and started to pour over what she could. Her class with Mr. Carter looming closer.

Mason nodded softly, "Its fine, see you at the lecture later," he said softly. He didn't want to be harsh on her, or seem to be; he just didn't like making exceptions regarding his rules. In addition to that, she hadn't explained to him the reason, for needing the break, her email hadn't even mentioned it was medical leave.

Mason waited for her to leave, before he continued to compile the note for his lecture today. He decided to give her a slight break, and printed off the notes from his lectures that she had missed, so she wouldn't have to go scrambling about her classmates for a copy. After he'd finished organizing his lecture notes, he went back to reorganizing his office.

Professor Carter had came against more adversity than most people realized. He had grown up with well off parents, went to good schools, and traveled the world; but he'd struggled several quite serious issues, and problems. He never discussed then publicly, and only like two people in the faculty even knew the extent of it. It was common for the ones who knew to defend his apparent strict, sometime borderline unreasonable rules.

A low ping sounded from from her laptop signaling she'd received a message. Opening the app she smiled seeing that Professor Diaz had sent her and email. Looking at the time she swore under her breath before closing her laptop. Quickly shoving it and her books into to her bag before taking off towards Mr. Carter's room. She didn't want to be late on her first day back. Offering him a sheepish smile when she slipped in as he'd stood near the door ready to close it. Moving to her usual seat, she sat three rows back from the front. Pulling out her laptop she quickly opened up her word document. She knew today would be grueling as Mr. Carter didn't hold back on his lesson. And she knew that she was no where ready for anything he was about to fire at them. He was never a let down, never once going easy on them. But it didn't stop her from enjoying his lessons none the less. Her friends couldn't hack the class and transferred out the first chance they got. Though they'd had agree that he was a better teacher than most. Such as Professor Diaz, she'd tell the class what to do verse actually teach. And her lectures only ever consist on what they'd done wrong on previous subjects.

Mason headed to his lecture, and waited for the class to arrive. He smiled softly seeing Emery file in. He moved to the front, "okay, I will make this as quick as I can," he said. He turned the projector on and flicked up his slide. He began his lecture, firing through the course work from the start of the year, covering off any points that they hadn't as a class grasped properly. He worked his way through all the subjects covered up until this point, doing the same thing.

Eventually, after 40 minutes, of talking at them, and moving rather quick over topics he was done. He looked out at the class, "alright, now, we have gone through everything we have covered so far, any questions on the work from the last couple of months, anything at all?" he asked.

Closing down her laptop Emery sighed, she was thankful that her lecture was over. As she started to put away her things Mr. Carter opened the floor for questions. Quickly pulling out a notebook she quickly jotted down the questions and his response. Hating that there was very good valid questions that she'd never thought of. But it also stemmed from not being in the lecture for the past month. She wished she'd have just done things online, however with no money she was lucky she was able to afford a phone. Her friends had tried to get her to do the sugar baby things, and she'd been tempted to a few times but her mind just couldn't get over sleeping with men for money.

Once the lesson was complete she packed up her things and just chilled. It was always a pain in the ass trying to leave a room afterwards. Everyone always pushing and shoving, she was still a bit tender. But things were healing nicely.

Mason patiently went through the questions answering them as best he could. He dismissed the class to leave, once there were no more questions. He began packing away his things, looking up to see Emery still sitting waiting to leave he waved her down, "Ms Greyson, can I speak with you for a moment?" he called out.

It was odd for him to single someone out, and keep them after class, but Mason wanted to give her a copy of the handouts that she'd missed. He left them sitting on the desk, ready for her, as he waited to see if she came down to see him

As the thinning of students started Emery stood and started to make her way to the door. Though the calling of her name had her stopping her pursuit, having someone run into her. "Sorry," she quickly gushed at the person stepping out of the way allowing them and a few other students pass. Nibbling on her lip she wonder what he could possibly want to add from this mornings conversation.

Whispers about her were already at a high, and this just added more to it. A few girls passing her started to snicker and made a few comments about how she was in trouble for skipping. Something along the lines Mr. Carter doesn't play. However as they were trailing off one of them wished he'd punish her. It made Emery's insides turn because now she was making her way towards the man, and thoughts of him spanking her popped in her head and she couldn't help the blush that pulled at her checks. "Yes sir?" She asked wondering what he could need.

Mason looked up from packing away his things when he heard her speak. His eyes noticed her light blush, but he ignored it. He reached down and picked up the handouts, "I printed these off for you, they are the handouts that you missed, while you were absent," he said softly handing them over towards her.

After she hand taken them, he then moved and began writing something down on a small piece of paper. He thought for a moment, before handing it towards her too, "this is my number, incase you come across questions while studying, please don't call after ten, or before seven in the morning," he added.

Hearing his words that he had documents for her she quickly took them from his hands. "Thank you." She gushed, knowing that this would help her work load. And it made her smile an actual smile, she wanted to show him her gratitude but she didn't know what she could possible do for her Professor that didn't cross lines. Shaking the thought of when he offered his phone number. Looking at it she felt her smile falter, taking the paper from him she from him. Looking over it she turned her attention back to him, "I don't want to be a bother, but thank you." She told him. Knowing that he was nicer than people gave him credit for. And really she needed a break right now. And even though this wasn't it, it was a weight lifted. Smiling softly at him she turned and made her way towards the door. Her mind already going over the rest of her schedule, and just when she'd be able to work.

Mason nodded lightly, "It's no issue, as I said at the start of the paper, I am always available to answer questions, I just figured that perhaps waiting on an email response might cause issues, as you try to catch up on what you have missed," he noted. He finished packing his things away, and closed his bag. "Have a nice day Ms Greyson," he called as she left.

Mason didn't want to give her special treatment, just because she'd taken time off. However he had thought about it, and realised she would be behind on all of her papers, so he figured he should at the very least make himself, more reachable for her, if she wanted some questions answered.

Pausing in the door she smiled back at him, "you to Mr. Carter." She told him before rushing off. She had so much stuff she had do to and in very little time. Finding herself in the library tucked up in a cubical she had her books scattered around her laptop. As she poured over them doing her best to finish assignment after assignment. Professor Diaz had been the biggest surprise of all, letting her know that her final grade could be improved on by her semester test. And that since she'd not missed it last semester her there wasn't any thing for her to make up. To her it was laziness, however she was thankful none the less. As she had over three weeks before the test so all she had to do was study.

Stretching she sighed before looking over her notes, it was about half a page. Of questions, and though she didn't want to bother Professor Carter, she found herself texting him. Emery. Was the first messages she sent him, her eyes dragging from the message to the time. Seeing that it was dinner time for most, she knew it was still in his time frame of contacting him. May I call? She sent him the second one, she didn't want to be a bother but she did need help. And if he was eating dinner or spending time with his family she didn't want to interfere.

Mason spent the rest of his work day, reorganizing his office, and just tidying up generally. He then headed home, to relax and do a some marking of assignments. He was sat at the table, with the TV on quietly in the background. Unlike the bedroom, the rest of his home was neatly organized, much like his office.

His attention was drawn to his phone as it beeped. He read over the message, and the second one that came moments later. Of course, thanks for asking he quickly sent back. He was surprised to hear from her already, but didn't really mind.

Emery packed away all her things expect her note book and pencil. She just hoped that he'd be alright with her calling him. But as she waited for a responses she picked up her stuff and headed out of the library. As she was walking towards her door, her phone chimed. A soft smile pulling at her lips as she quickly looked over the message. As she continued her walk she quickly hit the call button on the phone. Her stomach twisted in knots as she listen to the phone ring. But her excitement displayed on her face. It was shocking to her that she felt this way calling her Professor, and there wasn't any kind of ill intent about the call. Moving to the curb she sat down, it wasn't the best place to go over this. But there was plenty of light and she wasn't going back to the library. And she just hoped the call wouldn't be to long. However she did have a lot of questions.

Hearing the line click, she nearly dropped the phone. Hearing his voice over the phone was different then in person. "Good evening." She said to his greeting. "I'll try not to take up to much of your time." She told him, before jumping right in. Firing off question after question. Making sure to take notes as he answered her or even corrected her making this so much easier to understand.

Mason politely greeted her on the phone, and smiled softly, "It's fine, question away," he told her. He went through her questions one by one, answering them as best he could without giving her direct answers to the tests he'd set. He was pleasantly surprised by the intelligence of her questions, and how she had approached the subject matter so far, to have these questions.

He sat back in his chair, working away with her, "So Ms Greyson, have you got any further questions for tonight?" he asked her after explaining the answer to one of her questions and not hearing another fired off towards him for a while.
