"Is this really how it's goin' to be?" Alexei groaned, growing more agitated by the second. This was supposed to be a simple job, just a little collection. His father had made it sound like it was just a simple pick up, that this buffoon they were standing in front of already knew they were on the way. Alexei should've known better. His father always liked tossing the aggravating ones his way. But did it have to be tonight? He had a cute little redhead waiting for him back at a football game that started at eight...
The two young boys were standing in a back alley on the west side, at the back door of a popular family owned restaurant. This guy owed his father some money, payment for taking out a rival business for him, and he apparently didn't like the interest. Alexei glanced towards Leo, his arms slowly uncrossing from over his chest. "I don't think you understand," Alexei smirked, one of his knives falling out from inside of his jacket sleeve, into his palm. The young man always had at least three knives on his person at all times. "We're not here to negotiate, simply to collect. And if you're not paying up..."
"My father said I either return with the payment or your head," it was misguided foreshadowing, as Alexei stood up and threw a punch directly at the man's face. The restaurant owner collapsed backwards against the brick wall and Alexei was quick to take advantage of the situation. Raising his knife to the idiots throat, he pressed the blade into his skin slowly. The man gasped and cried out, but Alexei only smirked and pressed the blade deeper. "Five grand to get me to stop, Gramps."
The sun was setting on the west end of the city, casting beautiful shades of oranges, pinks and violets across the sky. Vinnie stretched her arms up, holding onto a soda in one of her hands. The girls had been enjoying a nice walk around the city, to get more familiar with their new surroundings. It was the first weekend after their first week of school and Vinnie was relieved to be free. Their new school was huge and each class had about forty or so kids. It was suffocating. Needless to say, she missed Colorado.
On their way back home, the girls passed by a little alley, just as a strangled cry could be heard. Vinnie stopped in her tracks, freezing in place as she sipped her soda. "Did... Did you hear that?" Glancing up to her sister, Vinnie turned to look down the alley, seeing what appeared to be two boys beating up on someone else. Lowering her drink from her mouth, Vinnie gaped in shock at what she was staring at. They would have never stumbled across something like this back home.
Taking a few steps closer, Vinnie narrowed her gaze at the scene. Under one of the lights by the door they fought next to, Vinnie recognized one of the boys. His dark curls that were pushed back, the light illuminated his piercing blue eyes... "Rory... Isn't that... One of the boys everyone's afraid of from school?" Vinnie's voice was barely above a hushed whisper as she backed away, afraid of the boys noticing them. She hoped she was wrong, but she knew she wouldn't be so lucky. In their first week of school, they had already ran into the kids a handful of times. Students were afraid to even look in their direction, and no matter who they asked, no one would even speak about them.
Was this why?
