Maisie nodded in understanding. "Maybe if you just try talking with them? I know like it seems obvious, and somewhat pointless given that when we've tried to talk to them about the whole marriage thing they refuse to listen, but maybe just sitting down and trying to get them to understand.. I know it's easier said than done, but it might be worth a shot." She suggested, although she tensed up a bit as he asked about what her boyfriend had done to her, chewing on her lip nervously as she looked away. "He.. He had a temper, and wasn't afraid to take things out on me when he was angry or upset.. he also drank quite a bit later on in our relationship, and would do and say awful things when he was drunk and then in the morning apologize and pretend he'd be better when he was really just going to get shit faced again that night.. I'm glad I'm not with him anymore, but he left his mark on me, and sometimes I still have nightmares about it, even though I hate admitting it." She murmured softly. She wasn't really sure why she was telling him this, but it was nice to open up to someone, even if they weren't really friends.

"You're right.. Maybe they'll let us go, though, since maybe we can argue that we'll be more cooperative if they let us go out and do things. Especially if we say it's to get to know one another." She teased with a little laugh, shaking her head. She was quite for a few more minutes before she spoke again, glancing up at him nervously. "Would.. When we get back, would you come with me to the hospital when I go get my tests done..? If I say I have an appointment I know my parents will let me go no questions, so it might be a good excuse for you to get out and see the city a bit.."

"I think I am going to have to do a little more than just talk to them at this point Maise. But thank you," Charles told her. He had tried to talk to them. Especially when this first started to handle, the man made an effort to stand his ground and push that he had a girlfriend that he cared about. And that his parents couldn't just put him and her around like that. But it didn't really matter much to them as they thought what they were doing was the best for both his happiness and for the country. He shrugged a bit. "It's okay. I'll figure something out."

As Maise started to talk about her old boyfriend, Charles' eyes were stuck on her. A deep frown came along his face. Although Maisie wasn't saying it outright, to Charles it sounded like the asshole probably hit her. His own body tensed up a bit at the thought of it. Now he just wanted to punch the asshole. Though, of course he couldn't. Whoever Maisie's ex was, he wasn't here....and he didn't know where he lived. "Sounds like a fucking asshole," Charles said, a bit of anger showing through in his voice. "Why didn't you tell your parents? I am sure that they would have put him in his place... Sounds like he needs a good beating,"

When she started to move onto the next subject, Charles tried his best to calm himself back down. He was sure she didn't really want to deal with his own disagreement with an old situation she used to be in. "I would like to think so but I think it will take a lot of convincing.... well, unless they thought we were going to town together or something." Charles let out a small breath but his eyes were stuck to her as she started to ask him to go to the hospital with her. Charles gave her a soft smile and a nod. "Of course, as long as you want me there."

Maisie was very aware that Charles was staring at her as she talked about her ex boyfriend, and she couldn't help but feel ashamed of herself for everything that had happened. He must think she was such an awful person for having put up with it all and not done anything about it sooner. "I know I should have told them, I just.. I-I just couldn't... I'm sorry." She murmured, tugging her sweatshirt around her a bit tighter, hoping he wasn't upset with her for what had happened.

Once near the waterfall she took a seat at the edge of the little pond, frowning down at the water as he spoke, giving a little shrug. "I don't know how to talk to them anymore.. I don't think either of our parents have listened to us for years." She sighed, glancing over at him with a faint smile as he said that he'd go to the hospital with her if she wanted. "Thank you.."

Charles glanced down at Maisie, his eyebrows furrowing together in confusion for a moment. "Why are you apologizing to me?" He asked her, though after a moment he continued on. "Wait, why are you apologizing at all?" He shook his head a bit at her before rubbing the back of his head. Now Charles just had to hope that this wasn't another situation where he just accidentally said the wrong thing and upset her. He was not sure that he could pull her out of the tent a second time and actually have her listen to him.

When they arrived at the waterful, Charles sat down next to her. Though instead of sticking his fingers in, he pulled off his shoes and socks to dip his feet into the water. It was nice and cool, which caused a bit of a smile to come along his face. The waterfall was definitely a good idea. "They are so used to ruling countries and getting their way that they don't know how to listen to us. Especially since we are not advisors. They just see us as young kids that need to be taken cared of."

Maisie frowned as he asked why she was apologizing, shaking her head a little before shrugging. "I.. I don't know.. I'm not proud of that part of my life, I guess, and I just feel like I should apologize for it." She explained softly, glancing up at him for a minute before looking back down at the water as he slipped his feet in, giving him a playful nudge after a moment.

"Now you've gone and contaminated the water." She teased softly, nodding as he mentioned their parents not being used to talking to them. "But we're adults now, we're the ones who are expected to rule our countries once they're done, so it doesn't make sense that they wouldn't listen to us... I just wish they didn't treat us like children all the time."

"You don't have to be proud of it." Charles told her gently. "Just sounds like it was a rough time. Though I don't think that is something you should apologize for either. It's not your fault. And that asshole is lucky that he got out of it still being able to walk."

He smiled at her warmly. "My feet are more than clean enough. I haven't contaminated anything." Charles lightly nudged her back. "I double dog dare you to drink my 'nasty foot water'" The man chuckled, knowing that there was no way Maisie would do that. And he couldn't blame her. His feet weren't all that gross but he wasn't going to pretend like they weren't just hanging out in the woods for the last few days... Besides, even on their best days, feet weren't all that inviting.

"They probably see it as preparing us. Or setting us up for the most amount of success...Or perhaps they are just control freaks at this point. Hard to say." He chuckled warmly at his little joke. "I understand some of it, why they are so strict but at some point, surely they just need to relax."

"But it is my fault." Maisie frowned, tugging her knees up to her chest. "I should have.. there's so many things that I should have done differently. If I hadn't been such a coward or a pushover none of it would have happened." She murmured. She hated herself for what had happened, hated the scars she'd have to carry forever because she was too afraid to do anything about it.

She smiled a bit as Charles nudged her in return, nudging him again as he dared her to drink the water his feet were in. "Ew, no way." She laughed, and for good measure leaned forward to splash some of the water at him with another laugh.

"Maybe if they think we're getting along they'll get off our backs, at least long enough to lower their guard enough to tell us why they really want us to get married." She suggested, letting out a sigh as she leaned against him slightly, resting her head against his shoulder lazily. "On a scale of one to ten, how angry will they be that we ran away?"

Charles let out a little sigh before he leaned over and wrapped an arm around her shoulder. He gently pulled Maisie into his side, wanting her to lean against him for a moment. "It's not your fault when someone hurts you. Even when someone is mad, and even if you had done something wrong to them, they shouldn't hurt you. Genuinely good people do not act like that." Charles lightly rubbed her arm, hoping to console Maisie a bit with whatever had happened in her past.

"Hey!" Charles laughed as she splashed him with water. The man was quick to lean down and splash her back, maybe with a bit more than he should have. "Don't get mad at me because you won't do it!"

"We already know why they want us to get married. Letting them know that we are getting along will just... well it will just cause them to think that this marriage is a good idea." Charles rubbed the back of his neck at the thought of it. "Oh, definitely at least an 8, if not an 11."

Maisie happily settled in against Charles' side as he pulled her close, letting out a little sigh as she rested her head against his shoulder. She knew that he was right, that what he was saying was true, but she still couldn't help but think that it was her fault sometimes. She nodded a little after a moment, tilting her head up to smile up at him faintly. "Thank you, Charles.. I'm sorry for being difficult before... I'm sorry for being a jerk." She apologized softly.

She laughed though as he splashed her in return, squirming in his arms as she tried to shield herself from the water. "It's your foot water, you shouldn't be mad about it getting on you!" She teased, splashing him again for good measure as she grinned.

"I still don't believe the whole imminent war thing. Our countries have been at peace for hundreds of years, there's not a real reason for us to have a war." Maisie sighed, tugging her socks and shoes off so that she too could slide her feet into the water, snickering a bit as he rated how mad their parents would be. "I'm thinking more like a 15.. But it won't be good, no matter what it is."

Charles gently rubbed Maisie’s shoulder as she started to apologize. “It’s okay Maisie. It happens to the best of us sometimes. I’m just glad that you’re feeling better now.” The prince was not all that concerned that she had been jerkily or even rude towards him when she started to pout earlier. Though he certainly did not like the feeling that she had been upset with him. Or felt bad because of something he said.

The man was able to turn Maisie it his arms so that most of the water she had attempted to splash on him actually ended up on her. A chuckle came from him as he started to speak. “That doesn’t mean I want to get wet!”

“Sometimes there are things going behind the scenes that we aren’t aware of. I don’t know about you but my parents don’t tell me everything,” Charles shrugged a bit before continuing on. “I mean does it really matter why they want this?”

"I mean before, too. I shouldn't have been rude to you when we first met, because we were both in the same situation and being mean didn't help anyone." Maisie murmured, closing her eyes as she rested her head against his shoulder, just enjoying the few moments of quiet with him rubbing her shoulder. It was nice, and she could almost forget the sort of trouble they'd be in when they went back, as well as the trouble they'd face with trying to get out of the marriage.

"I feel like this is something they should tell us the whole truth about, though." She frowned, opening up her eyes to look up at him. "It's our lives, I think we deserve to know the whole truth about their reasons behind this. It's not like they're the ones getting married." She huffed. She wished he cared more about why their parents were doing this to them, but she supposed she couldn't convince him.

She laughed as he turned her in his arms to shield himself from her splash with her body, attempting to push him into the stream all together. "You'll dry off! Don't be a baby!"

Charles just gave her a little shrug in response. There was nothing to really say about that. It made sense why she was rude to him but he didn't enjoy it... Charles supposed that he too couod have been a bit nicer but he didn't really want this to turn into an apology fest. They both did messed up things but it was time to move forward.

"I guess it just doesn't matter to me. The reason why is meaningless. What I want to know is how can we get out of it. Knowing that would make me happy. So I just really want to focus on that instead." He explained.

The man's eyes went wide as she started to shove him in the stream. Charles was quick to wrap his arms around her waist as tight as possible. "Push me in and you're coming in with me!"

"I guess that makes sense.. I still want to know why, but I guess that's just a personal thing. You're right, knowing how we can get out of the marriage is the most important thing." Maisie nodded in agreement, offering him a little smile. "Does that mean we're going to work together to figure out a way out of this mess?"

Maisie snickered as he wrapped his arms around her waist, narrowing her eyes a bit at him before grinning. "Guess we're going swimming." She said before pushing him into the pond, laughing as she got dragged along with him.

A low chuckle left the man and he nodded to her. "Yes, I think that we will be." He said as he patted her on the shoulder. It really was the best way forward at this point. He needs her as much as she needs him and hopefully, together, they could figure out how to get their lives back on track. "But we still need to be careful. If they see us getting along, it is going to get a lot harder from here and I am not sure about you, but I think this is hard enough."

His eyes went wide as he was suddenly pushed into the water, having thought that his threat of her getting wet as well would have stopped Maisie. Clearly that was not the case as he was doing in and Maisie got pulled in after him. Charles was quick to let her go once they were both soaking wet and twisted himself around until his feet were on the ground. The water hit around his upper chest and neck area. At least it had been deep enough to get pushed in without getting hurt.

"Hey!" He said as she popped back up. "What was that for?" Charles splashed her again.

"Oh, don't worry, I'll still pretend that I hate your guts." Maisie teased as he said that they needed to be careful, giving his cheek a playful pat as she laughed. "At least we have each other's phone numbers, so we'll be able to talk without having to actually do it face to face. Although.. if they catch us texting we're fucked." She sighed, poking his nose. "Guess we better not get caught."

She laughed at his expression as she pushed him into the pond, squirming in his arms when they went under, having to take a minute to orient herself before she popped up above the surface, pushing her hair away from her face as she laughed, shielding her face as he splashed her again. "Because you didn't think I'd actually do it." She grinned, splashing him again for good measure. "Besides, it's a nice day, it's always good to spend nice days swimming."

"That's what I wanted to hear," Charles told her, a huge smirk coming along his face now. "I am excited to keep being mean to you," He splashed her back one last time before swimming over to the end of the pond and pulling himself back up onto the grass. Once onto the land, Charles pulled his shirt off and started to wring out all of the water. He then laid the wet shirt down onto a rock before shaking the water out of his hair as well. "That is also true. We can text each other all we want. Though I don't think they will catch us..." He let out a hum before shrug. "Well, if they do, I guess they will know that we are trying to get out of the wedding together."

"And sure, swimming is fun but not when I am fully dressed!" Charles shook his head a bit at her before he pulled his pants off, leaving himself in his boxers. He started to wring the water out of it as well. "At least I have more clothes at the tent. You may be leaving today but I'm not!" He laid his pants down on the rock as well to dry in the sun.

Maisie laughed as he splashed her again, dipping back below the surface to smooth her hair back away from her face before she climbed out of the pond and up onto the rocks, twisting her hair to wring it out. Once that was done she slid off her shirt and sweatshirt and leggings to do the same before setting them out in the sun to dry, leaving her in her bra and underwear as she sat back down at the edge of the pond to dangle her legs in the water.

"True. But pushing you in was too tempting to pass up. You should have seen your face." She grinned before laughing. She shrugged a little as he mentioned her leaving later today, nodding. "I guess you're right.. Probably should have thought further ahead. Sorry." She smiled over at him before tilting her head back to enjoy the warmth of the sun on her skin.

While Maisie started to undress, Charles' adverted his eyes. Although it was her choice to undress in front of him, it still felt a little awkward to watch. Though he could not help but take a look once she was sitting back at the edge of the pond and looking up at the sky. His eyes shifted over her for a moment. She really was an attractive woman... But once again Charles was thinking about things that he should not. Especially when he needed to keep focus on ending their marriage.

So, he headed over to sit down next to her and did the same, tilting his head up to glance at the sky. It took him a few moments to fully recenter himself before he started to talk again. "I suppose it's okay. A little water never hurt anyone and I do have some extra clothes... Plus I took off my boots before hand." He let out a small chuckle before turning his head to look at the sun. "What time are you thinking about heading back? Hopefully not too late right? Don't want the guards to mistake you for an intruder if they can't see you in the dark."

Maisie laughed a bit as he spoke, shaking her head. "That is good. I actually would have felt bad if I'd gotten your boots wet." She smiled over at him, giving him a little nudge before looking back out at the pond and the waterfall. Truth be told she didn't really want to leave tonight, but knew she had to for their plan to work. "I'll head out at sundown and wait until the guards shift change before sneaking back into my room. I should have a ten minute window to sneak through the gardens and climb up to my window, so I should be alright." She explained.

Once she'd explained her plan she leaned back until she was laying down on the rock, her eyes closed to keep the sun out of her eyes. She was silent for a long while, enjoying the peaceful moment and thinking over what she should say, before finally speaking. "Charles? I just... I wanted to thank you, for asking me to come with you.. The past few days have been the first time I've felt normal and happy in.. well I don't know how long it's been. But thank you."

Charles was quiet for a moment as he thought over his plan. In truth, he would prefer if she went during the day. It was less likely that she would run into trouble that way or potentially get hurt. Plus the guards knew what she looked like but during the night, it was much more difficult. But it seemed that Miaise knew what she was doing so he decided not to push her on that. Besides, it honestly was better if the princess could sneak in and hide that they were at the same place this whole time.

"Very well," Charles eventually said before letting out a small sigh and closing his eyes. He let out a small hum as she thanked him. "Well, it seemed cruel to leave you there by yourself." Charles told her. "Having to face the wrath of both of our parents. Though I am glad that you agreed to come along. It has been a lot more fun with you here."
