Before Isabelle could knock on the door they’d come to a stop outside of, Saffrin took her arm and pulled her aside. “You’ve told her everything, right? That vampires exist, that she’s a halfling, that you were sent to keep an eye on her, that she has to be queen now and she’s meeting the person the council decided should be her protector?” She’d been dodging his attempts to find out what all she’d explained to Kiera and what he’d have to help explain in addition to introducing himself, and he wanted a straight answer before anyone knocked on Kiera’s door.

Isabelle waved her hand airily as she pulled her arm out of his grip. “Relax, Saf. She knows all about vampires. Well, not necessarily how things work, but given that the queen just died yesterday, I don’t think I can be held accountable for explaining all the intricacies. I may have left out a few minor details though, such as the fact that I was bringing you with me today. I just figured those explanations would go a little easier with you here.” Technically, she wasn’t lying, and though Saffrin was sure to be pissed when he found out that Isabelle hadn’t actually told Kiera anything, she hadn’t been able to bring herself to. Not when Kiera just thought her mom had a vivid imagination and liked vampires stories and that Isabelle was like any other human—albeit one who sunburned ridiculously easy and preferred to stay indoors. She was absolutely terrified the revelation would break their friendship, and she selfishly wanted to use Saffrin as a buffer.

Thankfully, if he still suspected that she wasn’t telling the whole truth, he didn’t show it, and when he gave a beleaguered sigh and motioned to the door, Isabelle was quick to knock, afraid he might change his mind and want to know specifically what Kiera did and didn’t know. “Oh, and if you have to say my name, call me Izzy. That’s what I’ve been going by,” she reminded Saffrin quickly before Kiera could answer the door.

At hearing a knock on the door, Kiera set her pint of ice cream down and headed towards the entrance of her home. She had been having a rather quiet day, thank goodness. Things had been going a bit crazy the last few weeks with midterms, friend drama, boy drama, and trying to keep up with the clubs that she was apart of. Not that she was a part of a lot but... well all of it together could be a bit overwhelming. So when she opened the door to see Izzy, Kiera was surprised that she had shown up to the house. Though she was even more surprised to see that some strange man was with her.

"Oh, Izzy!" Kiera said, a warm but confused smile coming over her lips. At least she was always happy to see her dear friend. Though Kiera wasn't sure she was as pleased by the fact that said friend had also brought a stranger to her house. "What are you doing here?" She asked, tilting her head a little to the side as she asked. Her eyes then shifted to the man beside her, hoping that Izzy would explain why he as here as well. "Hello, I'm Kiera." She said, figuring it was best to just introduce herself.

After a moment, Kiera stepped aside and opened the door wider so that both of them could walk in. "How about you come in. It is rather hot outside." Once they were both in, Kiera closed the door behind them before heading back to the kitchen to grab her pint of ice cream. "How about a drink? I have water? Also some pop and, I think we have apple juice if you want that?"

Isabelle smiled as Kiera opened the door and greeted her, though obviously—and understandably—confused by the presence of the stranger with her. “Hey Kiki!” She stepped forward and wrapped her friend in a quick, tight hug, releasing her as she introduced herself to Saffrin, who was tense beside her.

It was immediately obvious that Isabelle had lied to him about telling Kiera anything. She was too calm, too unconcerned, too normal for the sort of news she should’ve received. At this point, he could only try to help Isabelle explain everything as calmly as possible. Throttling Isabelle for deceiving him definitely wouldn’t go over well. So he gave her his best friendly smile as she introduced herself and said, “Hi, I’m Saffrin. And since you seem confused, I’m also sorry. I’m an old friend of Izzy’s, and she said she’d tell you that she was bringing me today.”

“Oh, you know how forgetful I am sometimes,” Isabelle said airily, stepping inside with Saffrin as Kiera invited them in. “I’ll get the water myself,” she offered, following her friend into the kitchen. She’d been here enough times that she felt almost at home and had no problems locating a glass to pour water into. “Saf, you want anything?”

Saffrin was still lingering near the doorway, not sure whether to follow the girls into the kitchen or sit somewhere or what to do with himself in general. He was also more or less expecting to be kicked out once they explained anything. “I’m good, thanks,” he called back to Isabelle, taking in his surroundings and trying to think through the best way to ease Kiera into the whole vampire queen thing.

“Suit yourself.” Realizing she’d have to explain what they were visiting for, Isabelle turned to Kiera. “So… you know all those vampire stories your mom tells you that you’ve been telling me about awhile now? Well, I kinda brought Saf here so we could talk about that. I’m sorry I didn’t warn you, it was kinda rude, but Saf and I’m worried you might hate me at the end of this conversation, and I really want to keep being best friends.”

At the feeling of her friend wrapping her arms around her, Kiera was quick to hug back. Though her attention moved back to the man besides Izzy, seeing how the man seemed rather uncomfortable. Her eyebrows furrowed together for a moment but as he offered her a smile, Kiera's face relaxed a bit. It was obvious that something was going on but Kiera assumed that it was minor. Maybe this was her cousin or something? Despite the fact that they looked nothing alike.

"Oh? She was supposed to, was she?" Kiera turned back to Izzy, an eyebrow now raising in disapproval. Though she let out a small laugh as her friend pointed out how forgetful she was at times. It was quite truthful. "Sounds suspicious, Izzy." She teased. "First you bring a stranger to my house without telling me and now I find out that he is some long lost friend that you have never spoken of."

Once the door was closed behind them, Kiera followed Izzy to the kitchen. She slid onto one of the stools that were in front of the island, leaning into it. "I really hope that this is one of your friends, Izzy. I already told you that I wasn't going to hide a foreign exchange student from your roommate when she came back from studying abroad." Kiera turned her head and took a moment to take Saffrin in. "You're not from Scotland are you?" She joked lightly, a more warm and natural smile beginning to come along her face now. "Probably not, Isabelle is horrible at keeping secrets as it is. I am not sure how she would have been able to hide you from me for so long."

Kiera turned her head as Isabelle started to speak. Though the confusion from before returned back to her face. "Why would you want to talk about those silly stories? And why would they..." A deep frown started over her face and she looked at Saffrin. "You're not a Psychiatrist, are you? I know she takes those stories a little seriously but she's fine. My mother and I don't need your help."

The normalcy of the conversation didn’t do much to ease Isabelle’s worries, knowing that it would have to end sooner or later, but she held onto it as she sat down on a stool with Kiera, laughing when she was teased. “This one isn’t kidnapped though. It’s different if I’m hiding him because he wants to stay than because I’ve tied him up,” she pointed out lightly, motioning for Saffrin to join them rather than hanging out awkwardly near the doorway.

Saffrin reluctantly joined the girls at the counter, standing opposite them rather than helping himself to a stool, shaking his head a bit as she asked if he was Scottish. “No, she didn’t kidnap me,” he promised, going quiet when Kiera suddenly frowned at him, quickly shaking his head once more as she started talking him being a psychiatrist. “No, no, I’m not anything of the sort,” he promised immediately. Then, since Isabelle didn’t seem to be in any rush to bring it up herself anytime soon, he took a breath and said, “Actually, I’m here because your mom’s stories aren’t exactly stories… Isabelle and I are actually vampires.”

Isabelle knew Kiera wouldn’t just take Saffrin’s word for it. He was a stranger, Kiera had known Izzy for years, and it was sure to sound crazy. “He’s telling the truth, Ki,” she said softly. “Look.” She lifted her own arm to her mouth and bit it. When she lowered it for Kiera to see, there were two distinct fang marks in her skin, blood dribbling from them. “Saf—“ she started, but he was already holding a paper towel out for her. She accepted it, dipping one end in her glass of water to get it damp, then wiped at the blood on her arm. No further blood replaced what she wiped away, and in the seconds that followed, the puncture marks in her arm stitched themselves up until only unblemished skin remained.

Saffrin’s eyes were on Kiera nearly the entire time, watching for her reaction and trying to gauge what to tell her and in what order. Hopefully, she believed Isabelle after seeing her friend’s proof, but she’d still be bound to have questions for them on why they were suddenly revealing this to her and what they wanted. “If you still have doubts and have any silver available, you could test us that way too,” he offered.

Kiera rolled her eyes as Saffrin decided to tell her that they were vampires. "Ha ha," She said, sarcasm dripping from her words. As Kiera started to slide off of her stool, Isabelle told her it was the truth. When told to look, Kiera's eyes followed to where Isabelle wanted her to watch. They widened when her friend bit her own arm, definitely not having expected that. The young woman continued to watch, now mesmerized as Isabelle showed her the marks and they proceeded to suddenly just disappear.

For a moment, Kiera was completely still as she tried to process what had just occurred. Without a word, she took Isabella's arm and looked at it closer. Her free hand ran over where she had bitten herself, her nails lightly brushing over to see if she could find something attached to her skin but there was nothing there. Feeling her chest begin to tighten, Kiera looked up at the two before letting out a nervous laugh. "That was a really good trick." Looking at Isabelle, she nodded her head towards Saffrin. "What is he? Some kind of magician?"

Not waiting for a response, Kiera slid off of the stool and got onto her feet. Her eyes lingered on her friend's arm for a long moment before shaking her head a bit. There was no way Izzy was a vampire. First of all, they didn't exist. Secondly, surely Kiera was not so unobservant not to notice that her best friend was some kind of mythical being. So she turned and headed to the cupboard to get herself a snack. Though in the back of her mind, she was thinking about where she had put the silver necklace that her mother gave her. She was just being silly. "So why are you two here?"
