Lance was glancing down at his watch as he was waiting for Evelyn to arrive in the lobby. She was running late. This was not an issue on a normal day but he could tell that their parents were getting antsy. And Lance didn't want to deal with the energy that was flowing off of the four. Already, it was easy to tell that this was going to be a weird dinner but he had no idea as to why it would need to be. Normally, they ate and life was grand but, for some reason, this was different. So when Evelyn was late, Lance was annoyed.

He looked over at the four that seemed to be giving each other looks and the man let out a sigh. "I'll go get Evelyn," He said as he made his way over to the elevators. Though as he was walking down the hall to where they were, he could see that Evelyn was getting grabbed by some strange guy. For a moment, he stepped back, thinking that perhaps she had found a cute guy to talk to. But it only took a moment for him to realize that this was unwanted attention and that his friend was quite upset about what was occurring.

So, Lance walked over there in stride, and without a thought, he grabbed onto Evelyn and kicked the stranger off of her. As the boy went down, landing on his ass, Lance pulled Evelyn behind him. With his friend safely behind him, Lance took a step forward to increase the distance between the two of them. "Don't grab her like that," He growled down at the boy on the ground, "You're making her uncomfortable and clearly she isn't interested in you. Now get lost, we have a dinner to go to."

Although they were already running late, Lance refused to start heading over there. Instead, he kept his stance and waited to see what the stranger would do next. After all, he didn't want to turn his back to him if this was going to turn into a fight.

Turning around, Evelyn was about to give the boy a piece of her mind when she felt another hand grab her. Looking up, a wave of relief washed over Evelyn as she saw Lance and was extremely thankful as she watched him easily get the loser to let her go. Moving behind Lance, Evelyn lightly rubbed her wrist as she watched the scene that was unfolding. Her eyes narrowing at the boy who was trying to get someone who was way out of his league.

"Hey man!" The boy said as he landed on his ass glaring up at Lance. Evelyn watched as the kid stood up and looked like he was ready to stand up and charge Lance, but a movement to the right caught Evelyn's attention. A small smirk appearing upon her lips as she realized they were security guards coming over. "Who the fuck do you think you are? You don't own her." The boy said as he stood and brushed off his cheap-looking clothing.

A scuff escaped from Evelyn as she rolled her eyes. "Yeah, and I don't belong to you either. So leave us alone." Evelyn said, and then moved forward to wrap her hand around Lance's upper arm. "Come, the security guards are here," Evelyn said that just as two large men came forward. "What seems to be going on here?" The guys asked, obviously looking at the boy moreso than at Lance and Evelyn, as they looked more respectable.

"This kid grabbed me, and my companion stopped him," Evelyn said and showed the guards her slightly red wrist. Normally, Evelyn would have said they had things under control, but, the kid wasn't getting that she didn't want to talk to him. Plus, she was on vacation and wasn't interested in being pushed around. "Our deepest apologies, Mr. Hawthorne, Miss." One of the guards said, recognizing Lance because of his family's influence in this part of the city. Without hearing from the kid, the guards moved to detain him. "H-hey! What the fuck!" The kid didn't seem as happy as he struggled.

Raising her gaze, Evelyn lightly tugged on Lance's arm. "Let's go. I'm hungry and the place we're going to had that caviar that I like."

Lance glanced back at the kid for a moment as he started to get dragged away. That was certainly for the best. What kind of man thought it was okay to just grab a woman like that? Some people were really unbelievable. In the least, this wasn't turning into a full-blown fight. While he was rather sure that he could have taken down the stranger, it did not mean that Lance enjoyed fighting. It was just something he knew to defend himself. Besides, they were already late for dinner.

"Thank you for taking care of it. He was incredibly rude." Lance told the guard who had been talking to him. His eyes then shifted over to Evelyn. "Oh? Someone thinks they are still getting caviar despite making everyone late?" Lance teased as he started to lead her towards the lobby of the hotel where their parents were waiting. Before they got there though, he gave her a gentle nudge. "Just a warning, our parents are acting a bit strange. I don't know what is wrong with them but don't be surprised."

With that, they rejoined the group and soon enough they were all getting into a rather large car and being brought to the restaurant. it was one that his father loved in particular, especially as the man knew the chef there. But no one ever complained about going as the food was simply some of the best in Paris. As their car drove up, the valet immediately took the car and they did not even have to wait to be seated, immediately being brought to the back where there was a room for a more private dining experience. As always, Lance pulled Evelyn's seat out for her before he took his own. While she was not his girlfriend or his date, it was what was proper and expected of him.

The group barely had a moment to breath before the waitress was there and taking their drink orders before hurrying off.

As they passed the nice guard who came towards then and recognized Lance, a small smile appeared on Evelyn's lips. "Yes, thank you." She said, and then glanced at his name tag. Making a mental note to tell her dad to call his boss to give him a raise. Then, raising her gaze, Evelyn made a fake gasp. "But, I always get caviar. Lance" She added on a fake whine as well as she pouted. Playing along. Then, her lips moved into a small frown as he nudged her. "Acting oddly?" She asked, looking up at him curiously before looking ahead. She didn't get a chance to ask anything else as they were ushered out to their limo and to the restaurant.

When they got to the restaurant. Evelyn kept up her appearance of a stuck up rich girl. As she and Lance were probably the youngest people in the place. As most of the wealthy didn't bring their young here, as it was more of a date place or a place to show off to their potential partners. Walking to the back room, Evelyn offered Lance a smile as she sat down. Muttering him a small thank you as well.

Looking up, Evelyn got herself lemon water when asked what she wanted to drink. Then looked down at the menu. Skimming it like she hadn't already known what she wanted to get. "Ha, Lance. They still have gold ice cream." Evelyn grinned as she leaned over and pointed at the dessert menu. Amusement dancing in her eyes as she pointed at the description. Vanilla ice cream, with chocolate cookie pieces with chocolate sauce and gold pieces. The first time they came here, Evelyn and Lance bought that and they freaked out the next day because well. Things were gold.

When the waitress came back with their drinks, Evelyn's father ordered some caviar and bread for the table. Giving Evelyn a small smile because he knew it was his daughter's favorite thing besides what she usually ordered for dinner here. Then, as soon as the waitress left, it suddenly became a little quiet. This was odd because usually, Evelyn's parents would be in an energetic conversation together, but instead. They were looking warily at the two youngsters.

"Of course they do, I am sure that it is a specialty." Lance told her with a grin as Evelyn pointed out the gold ice cream. There was not a chance that the restaurant would take that dessert off of the menu unless there suddenly was not enough gold in the world for such a thing. His eyes then shifted down to the menu, trying to decided if he wanted to try anything new. Though he soon noticed the quietness of the table and his eyes slowly shifted up. Evelyn's parents were always so friendly so it was odd that they were not talking at all. And the looks on their faces had him more worried.

His eyes then shifted to his own parents. They too, seemed a bit uneasy. Although they weren't as energic as the others, they still enjoyed conversation and talking to the children.... Something was going on. He could even see it on his father's face and that man knew how to hide something when he needed to. And, to no surprise, it was his father who cleared his throat and started to speak. Always the leader.

"There is something that we need to tell the two of you." The man said. And, with that, Lance set his menu down on the table and folded his hands. Why did it feel like someone was dying? It had to be something bad considering how formal they were all being. Normally, if it was good news, it seemed that the adults were bursting at the bits to tell them. But they were certainly too nervous to do that this time.

"All of us have come to a decision about your futures. And, we believe, that it would be best for the both of you, if you were to be wed." The man said. He paused for a moment to allow that to sink in before continuing on. "So, we have set up an arranged married for the two of you."

It was so quiet in the room that the hairs on the back of Evelyn's neck started to slowly raise. A small chill running down her spine. She felt like she was going to go into a panic attack for no reason. Surely, something had to be wrong. Evelyn's parents as well as Lance's were usually so full of life and laughter. The fact that they were quiet was scary. Haunting even.

Slowly, Evelyn shifted her gaze over towards Lance. Watching as he finally lowered the menu that was in his hands. Then, at the sound of the throat clearing, Evelyn's eyes shifted back to the older Hawthorne. Lance's dad looked like he was in one of his board meets that she and Lance accidentally walked in on when they were in elementary school. Having been so excited to play in Uncle Hawthorne's cool building, had made Evelyn overly hyper and she and Lance ended up playing tag all through the building and barging into a marketing meeting and running around. They had been kicked out and told to wait in the lobby till his mom could pick them up and take them to a child-friendly place. As in, the park.

Blinking out of her memories, Evelyn had to do a double-take as the words arranged, and marriage, were used in the same sentence. "What?" Evelyn finally managed to say, breaking the silence after what felt like an intense game of stare down between everyone at the table. "We have agreed on an arranged marriage between you and Lance." Evelyn's dad repeated, giving his daughter a small smile. "It's a great idea, you both have grown up together, you're practically attached to the hip." Evelyn's dad said, smiling. "Plus, this way I don't have to worry about our company falling into the wrong hands. The Hawthornes are a business family, they know how to handle multiple different things. Right, Henry?" Evelyn's dad looked at Lance's who nodded his head. "Yes, I've been eyeing your family's company and will happily take care of it, as will Lance once he's old enough to take over."

This could not be happening. An arranged marriage, in this day and age? Are they joking? Evelyn glanced down at the table, not wanting to listen to the conversation anymore. Her head was filled with thoughts. So many things she wanted to do, places she wanted to, alone. To build herself, now. She couldn't because now she was engaged. To Lance no less, not that he's a bad guy but. It's Lance. He's... an idiot.

"What if, what if we say no? Lance is already eighteen and I will be next month," Evelyn asked quietly, raising her gaze slowly to look at all of the adults at the table. "We've signed the paperwork or the arrangement years ago, we just thought that now would be a good time to bring it up. Before Lance goes to college."

Lance immediately went eerily silent when the news was broke to them. He felt blind sided. There was so much that his father had already planned for him. Like his courses, what college he would go to, what business he would take over first, what age Lance would become the active CEO or owner or everything. But, Lance had always thought that his wife would not be one of them. He could not control who he loved and, although it now seemed a little mean considering their situation, he did not love Evelyn.

And the reason why for his family made no sense. Sure, his family had so much more than hers did. He could see her father seeing the opportunity and wanting to jump on it for his family and daughter. But why did his father agree? Surely it was not for their businesses... surely they did not have something that he could not get. His eyes glanced over at Evelyn for a moment as she argued with her parents.

Maybe... Maybe his father was just trying to set him up with a trophy wife that he knew wouldn't betray the family. Lance didn't like the thought but he knew how his father like consistency and stability. Evelyn would be that. And it fit the reasons why his father had married his mother.

Lance's head dropped down, looking at the table. It was unusual but Lance was completely at a lost for words. What should he say? He didn't want this, didn't want to marry Evelyn. But his father often got what he wanted. It was hard to argue with the man so he often just gave in and agreed. But, normally his plans weren't so bad, or so...insane.

The rest of their vacation felt so awkward. Weird, Evelyn had actually stayed in her room for the two days after being told she was arranged to marry her best friend. She was in a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions. What the fuck was she going to do? She didn't love him, at least not in a romantic sense. He was like her brother. Yeah, like a brother, he was her best friend. Why would she want to marry him? That's just weird and kinda like a Korean drama. Something fake.

On the last day, Evelyn had gone to the mall on her own. Which was extremely weird to her, and felt so uncomfortable that she only went in bought the shoes that she wanted, and left. There wasn't anyone to goof around with. It was lonely.

Next week, they were to have their wedding announcement. Evelyn heard her parents talking about how excited they were. Marrying Evelyn into the Hawthorne family was a sound investment. Investment, that's all that Evelyn was to them. Ever since her brother decided to skip town, they've been trying to figure out what to do with the family company. They wouldn't just name Evelyn the CEO, because according to grandpa, a girl can't run a business or some sexist bullshit like that. So, marrying her off was of course the perfect fucking idea.

Laying back on the floating pool bed in her pool, Evelyn fixed her sunglasses and let out a stressed out sigh. She could feel the acne forming on her skin from all of this worrying. It felt like her and Lance's friendship was now over. How was she supposed to look him in the eyes ever again now? Much less, oh god. She's going to need to give him an heir. Just the mere thought of having to have sex with her best friend was enough to cause Evelyn to bolt up on her floaty and accidentally tip herself over into the chlorine filled pool. She struggled for a moment before coming up for air. Her arms holding onto the floaty's edge as she caught her breath. "Fuck me." She mumbled her face as red as a tomato. Why the hell did she think of Lance and baby's in the same thought? That's just so fucked up.

    -Engagement Party-

Lance was doing his absolute best to calm down. It had been a little over a week since he was told that he would be getting married to his best friend, and during that time, Lance had been avoiding her. Not that Evelyn had done anything wrong because she had not. Evelyn never did anything wrong... but the thought of facing her, knowing that she was going to be his future wife had been more difficult than he could imagine. It was just too hard to look at his best friend and admit that there was nothing that he could do to stop this. Nothing that he did would matter in this situation. He would never love her and she would never love him. Evelyn was being reduced to a trophy wife.

Though as much as he had been successful in avoiding her in the past week, tonight was the engagement party and he would have to face her. His father already made it clear that he would be expected to spend the whole night by Evelyn's side. To really sell the fact that they were now a happily engaged couple. Well, Lance was not happy but he was going to have to pretend like he was. From his car, he glanced at the grand building and outside garden that his father had picked to make the announcement. It was quite a large party as well.

Once he had found some bravery, Lance shifted out of the car and stood up straight. The man took a moment to smooth out his suit before making his way into the building. Lance was allowed to come a little later than the others as he had soccer practice. But that just meant that Evelyn was already inside, probably just waiting for him to show up. There was no doubt that she had been the same thing, that they needed to stick close.

As Lance headed through the building and into the gardens, he started to look around for Evelyn. There were plenty of people there and it was hard to find her right away. So he slowly made his way to the drinks table and grabbed a glass of champagne. He wouldn't mind a few minutes before finding his now fiancee.... besides he was sure she would have a lot to say to him.

Make sure to smile, but not too much, you're not a clown and you don't want to make people think you're going insane. No, you need to look happy. Confident, play the room like the rest of the world. Be fake, be above everyone. Shoulders back, keep your tone light and not forced. Don't forget, this is a party, an engagement party, you are to act like you're on top of the world with joy. You are finally engaged to your dream man. You will become a Hawthorne and do so with pride.

Words have never caused such a chill to run down Evelyn's spine like the ones that her mother spoke to her as she rode with her parents to the venue earlier. Her mother was ecstatic about this whole thing. Her father, happy but also sympathetic. They weren't arranged to marry, they chose each other. They took the choice away from Evelyn, thinking she'd be happy because she was safe with her childhood best friend. Oh, how wrong they were. "Don't worry, Eve. the awkward feeling will vanish after a year or so. Then you'll be head over heels for each other, trust me on this." Evelyn's mother told her daughter as they pulled up to the venue. She probably got that idea from one of those soap operas. Evelyn thought to herself and looked out the window instead of at her mother the rest of the ride.

As they got to the venue, they were among the first to arrive. The only other people being Lance's parents and the staff that would be working the event. Pleasantries were made, and then the show of Evelyn's life was to start. Her hours of practicing being fake coming forward. Her shoulders held back in confidence. A smile that wasn't too big or small was plastered on her lips, making her seem approachable. Her hands smoothed down invisible wrinkles on her dress and then took in a deep breath. She was ready, ready to seal her fate that was stolen from her for a business and political deal. Glancing towards the doors of the grand hall, the first of the guests have arrived and with them, the beginning of a show.

It felt like an eternity had passed. How many people has she smiled too, thanked, and had a conversation about how happy she was with? How many people from school approached her and said that they just knew that they'd get married one day? How many times had she wanted to pull her hair out because one of Lance's psychotic ex's approached her with their parents, faked pleasantries and then glared, called her a slut or bitch, and then walked away? To many, to fucking many, and Evelyn was pretty sure she had hours upon hours left of this shit.

Stepping outside for some fresh air, a flute of sparkling white grape juice in her hand. Evelyn felt like she could finally breathe. Inside was packed with people upon people, while outside it was a little more open. Little lights were threated in the trees to create light and allow people to walk about without falling over themselves. It would be kinda romantic actually if the occasion was different.

Looking around the garden, it was like a missile's accuracy that Evelyn seemed to be able to pick the tall broad form of her fiance' by the drink table set up outside. Then again, it could have also been because she was standing on steps in heels and could see over people's heads. Picking up her dress slightly, Evelyn made her way down the steps and towards her betrothed. "Next time we're alone. I'm going to rip you limb from limb and feed you to your family's horses." Evelyn said in her most casual tone as she wrapped an arm through one of his and leaned into his side. Her flute of juice coming to her lips casually as she sipped lightly. Doing her best to seem uppity and like she was made for the socialite spotlight she was being forced into.

"What're you going to do for me as payback for having to deal with Heather and Tiffany for hours without you?" Evelyn asked, referring to Lance's biggest fans, as she rested the side of her head against Lance's arm and looked up at him with big doe eyes. Giving off the impression that they were lovers and she had been lovesick without her lover by her side.

The hair on the back of Lance's neck stood up as Evelyn moved in next to him, wrapping an arm around his. He glanced down at the woman, who was already threatening to murder him before downing his glass and picking up another one. "Remind me not to ever be alone with you then," He whispered to her. "I know you aren't happy Evelyn but that doesn't mean you need to threaten me."

His eyes glanced around the party for a moment, just wanting to get an idea of just how many eyes were on them. It was more than he cared for. Which, unfortunately, was going to occur throughout the whole night. After all, this was their engagement party, what else could he expect? So Lance needed to be on his best behavior despite the desire to run off and make more space between himself and his friend.

Feeling her head rest against his shoulder, he looked down at the woman once again. Though this time he saw those big eyes of hers. Damn, she really did know how to turn it on. Now he just needed to follow suit. So he took his arm, unlinking it from hers and instead wrapped it around her waist, pulling Evelyn close into him. As much as Lance didn't approve, this was an important night. One that he needed to be seen as the doting fiancée. Hopefully, Evelyn would not get irritated by his way of doing that. She would have his hand if he touched her wrong or said the wrong thing.

"Why would I pay you back for that?" Lance asked, raising an eyebrow as he looked down at her. Though he was quick to replace it with a warm, welcoming smile. "That's not my fault." He continued to say, keep his voice low. "Just... stay away from them. Go talk to someone else next time."

It felt nice to have her friend by her side, even if they were stuck in this crappy situation together. Faking it till they made it, forcing to be something that they weren't. Evelyn's lips twitched up into a small smile of amusement as she listened to Lance. Plotting in her mind about how she was going to make the jerk pay for his teasing words. Maybe doing her homework for a month would do? Maybe two at most? They had chemistry together and Evelyn was well aware of how that was Lance's least favorite subject.

Pulling away slightly as Lance removed his arm, a feeling of unease washes through Evelyn. Especially when Lance's arm moved around her waist. Her arm that was nearest to him, wrapped around Lance's side as well so that they were close. Her hand resting against him and giving him a small hard pinch to show her disapproval before releasing and resting against him. "Wow. what a great idea babe. Why didn't I think of that." Evelyn said in a fake cheery voice, followed by a roll of her eyes. "They practically followed me around. Murmuring crude things to me as I tried to speak to other people." Normally, Evelyn wouldn't tell Lance these sorts of things. Heck, she wouldn't go into the bullying they do at school. It was her problem, not Lance's, but. She just needed to vent. All of this stress was eating her up and she hadn't seen her best friend in what was feeling like forever.

Closing her eyes, Evelyn took in a deep breath through her nose and slowly exhaled through her lips. A way to relax, just a little something she'd learned from her father and all the years of having to deal with her mother's nagging. "Dance with me?" Evelyn asked, or more so told Lance. They were expected to be seen together and the more the paparazzi saw of them and posted in the tabloids, the more their parents would be happy.

Lance winced for a moment as Evelyn pinched him, mostly out of surprise more than anything else. Though he glanced down at Evelyn, nudging her a bit as he did so to sure that he was quite aware of her displeasure. "No need to be upset with me because of other's expectations." Lance whispered to her. "It's just for the night," He reminder her before looking back up at the crowd, smiling at those who made eye contact with him, and even waving to a few people that he knew quite well. There was no doubt that this was not what either of them wanted but that certainly did not mean that Lance thought it was okay for Evelyn to just be pissy with him. "As for the girls, just punch them in the face. They'll leave you alone after that." Lance let out a small chuckle at the thought of it. He highly doubted that she would take his advice but nonetheless, it was there.

His eyes shifted back down to her, a little surprised when Evelyn asked to dance with him, especially with the fact she had just pinched him for being too close. Even so, he gave her a nod. "Okay, but we will need to go speak to people afterward." He told her before bringing Evelyn out onto the dance floor. There were not too many people on it as of yet so it was easy for the two of them to find a spot. At which point, Lance motioned to the band to play something a little slower. After all, he doubted that their parents would approve of Evelyn twerking on the dance floor or something like that. Plus he was not used to dancing with her so slower would be better for them to start off with.

Once the song changed to something more their speed, Lance turned to her. He moved a hand to the back of her waist as he took her hand into his. The man smiled down at her gently as he started to move with the pace of the song, leading her easily. He knew how to dance as it had been mandatory for him. But he picked something easy. A dance that would make both of them look good as well as give the paparazzi plenty of photos. That was probably something that his father would want. Some nice photos to prove that this engagement was a great idea.

A sigh and a roll of her eyes are all that Evelyn could muster as she listened to Lance. Her head shaking a bit. Boys. "You're calm for your own good sometimes." Evelyn mumbled and glanced up at the boy she was forced to marry through the corner of her eye. Her lips tugging into a small smile. "An for your information, I can't punch anyone. That would cause more trouble than it's worth." A small sigh escaped from Evelyn as she said that because in all honesty, she would have loved to have punched the two. It just sucks that her parents and Lance's would be extremely upset with her. Tarnishing the Hawthorne name would be the worst thing she could ever do.

"I've been talking all night, just. Let me have a break from being fake. For a little while." Evelyn murmured quietly as she allowed Lance to lead her onto the Dance floor. She placed a hand into his outstretched one and then others on his shoulder as the music slowed. Amusement flashing in her eyes. "Why Mr.Hawthorne, I didn't know you could slow dance," Evelyn said quietly as they danced on the floor. Her head slightly tilted back to look into Lance's eyes. "Who'd have thought my playboy best friend would know how to be a gentleman." She teased, of course, she'd known he could dance. They've known each other since before they could walk. It's just a rare occurrence that Evelyn couldn't resist the chance to tease while she had it.

Seeing movement out of the corner of her eye, Evelyn spotted her mother and Lance's watching them. Her mother was mouthing something at her, and Evelyn couldn't help but narrow her eyes in confusion. She had no idea what the older woman was trying to tell her. Then, a couple of moments later Evelyn watched her mother huff and press her hands together and then rested her hands against them like a pillow. When it connected, Evelyn's cheeks turned a bright shade of red. "I'm going to kill that woman one of these days," Evelyn mumbled quietly, her cheeks turning a light shade of pink as she leaned forward a little bit and rested her cheek against his shoulder. The slowness of the song, and the hush of the people on the floor making this seem like it was an extremely romantic moment.

"I've missed talking to you," Evelyn mumbled quietly after a couple of moments. "I know we've only ignored each other for a couple of days, but that's been the longest we've gone without speaking to each other since we got our phones and computers," Evelyn said quietly, then she mentally slapped herself. Why did she have to go and say something like that? Now Lance will really pull away from her. Thinking she was the clingy type.

"You know perfectly well that I can, Evelyn." Lance whispered to her, doing his best to keep them from being overheard. "And I already act like a gentleman towards you. Most girls don't deserve it." He said as he stood up a little straighter, smirking down at her teasingly. "Though I can certainly stop and go back to acting like a playboy all the time if you want. Would you prefer that dear fiancée?" Although Lance and Evelyn were engaged to be married, Lance didn't necessarily see why he had to stop his playboy days. After all, they didn't love each other. And sure, the world might just see it as him cheating on her but since they were forced into this, Lance already figured that Evelyn would do the same. Both of them stuck in this marriage but doing whatever they wanted on the side.

A small sigh left the man as Evelyn leaned forward to lay her head against their shoulder as they danced. To others, it would look like a sigh of satisfaction. Though, Lance hated this. Not that he minded all that much having Evelyn against him, but it was... not as enjoyable knowing that she was being forced into it all. Women were fun, having them against him was typically enjoyable, but Lance never wanted a woman forced on him. Even for something as simple as a dance. "If we killed them all, we could do what we wanted," Lance joked to her. Of course, he would never kill any of their parents but it would solve the problem in theory.

Lance's breath stilled for a moment as Evelyn revealed that she missed their conversations. He knew he was the reason for that, having done his best to avoid her since the news came out. It wasn't Evelyn's fault in the least. Though Lance didn't know how to handle what was happening to them. He didn't know what to say to her. Especially as he felt like there was nothing he could do to stop the engagement. "I'm sorry," Lance said after a moment, his breath now returning to him. "I wanted to talk to you but I didn't know what to say. It just seemed easier to not say anything."

A small sigh escaped from Evelyn as she and Lance danced together. Her eyes closed slightly as she just listened to his heartbeat through the ear on his chest. "Don't change Lance, don't ever change on me," Evelyn murmured quietly and then raised her head to look at her friend. "Or I'll tell your mom where you keep those dirty magazines I found hidden around your house." She said, and then playfully stuck her tongue out at Lance. Then smiled teasingly as she went back to resting her head against his chest.

The corners of Evelyn's lips twitched up into a small smile. Amused about what Lance had just joked about. "We can go into the kitchen to start a gas fire." She said, adding on to his little joke. Then, a small sigh escaped from Evelyn as she stood up straight so that she wasn't laying her head against Lance's chest anymore. Her eyes looking up into his once more. "It's alright, I didn't know what to say either. So don't blame yourself." Evelyn said quietly as she moved her hands to have them wrapped around Lance's neck as the song changed to something super slow and mellow. The sort of music that their parents would have danced to at their weddings or something. It was just, a quiet intimate sort of moment. The paparazzi was probably eating this moment up.

"How many more paparazzi picture tabloids do you think we're going to be on the cover of?" Evelyn asked a slight twinkle of amusement in her eyes. Knowing Lance's mother and her own, they'll be on quite a few. They were the gossip queens, if something happaned around them, then it's bound to be told to the press within minutes. "I've guessed they'll be on at least four of them. Mom can't keep anything private."

"You horrid little blackmailer." Lance said as he shook his head at her. The man was not aware that anyone had found those. It was one thing that Evelyn had seen it. That was embarrassing enough but he hoped that no one else had accidentally gotten their eyes on them. Though enough house staff went in and out of the house... He let out a deep sigh. Well, Lance definitely thought that he had done better than that but it seemed that was not the case. "You tell my mom about that and I will be more than happy to tell both of your parents what happened at Cindy's party last summer."

A little smirk came over his face, knowing that he had just assured mutually destruction. Of course, Lance didn't actually think she would say anything to his mother but it was better to be safe than sorry. "As for the gas fire, that sounds like a great idea. I'll cause a distraction and you can sneak into the back." He gave her a little wink.

Feeling Evelyn move his hands around his neck, his own shifted down so they were resting against her waist. He pulled her in just a little more to make it look right to the cameras. After all, it would look odd if the two of them were too far apart. "I guess, maybe we shouldn't say anything," Lance mumbled. "I don't have anything to say at least..."

His eyes shifted over to the cameras, taking a moment to think before responding. "Yeah, I would say at least four. Though with an engagement like this I am sure it will get even more attention than just the tabloids. You know how nosy people get about things like this."

A small gasp escaped from Evelyn's lips as Lance brought up the party that will forever haunt her mind. "You promised to never bring that up again, you jerk," Evelyn mumbled and then playfully slapped his shoulder before relaxing. The one time that Evelyn decided to try and be wild, she gets blackout drunk and ends up skinny dipping with some of the guys from the baseball team. Safe to say, Evelyn no longer drinks tequila because of that night. Wine, beer, and vodka are still a go though so it's not all a buzzkill for when she's at a party.

Listening to Lance, a small giggle escaped from Evelyn. Loving their little fake plots of destruction. It was always a blast creating fake plots with Lance. Especially because they were both too nice to actually do something so reckless and dangerous. "I can't wait for interviewers to come and bombard us on our way to school, asking how we met and our stance on the marriage. It's gonna be so much fun." Evelyn mumbled, sarcasm was heavy in her tone.

After the song ended, Evelyn slowly pulled away and looked up towards Lance. "I'm going to go and grab another glass of wine. My throat's parched." Evelyn said quietly. "Want to join me, or do you want to do your part and mingle?" She meant the second part to sound teasing, but honestly. She was a little tired and was almost certain that it sounded annoyed. To which, she'll probably have to apologize for after getting something to drink or sleep once this is over.

"I think I will come join you," Lance said as he followed her over to the drink table. Though as he went with her, he glanced up at the people they were walking by, smiling or saying hello to those who he knew. Or, quite honestly, to anyone that smiled at him. His glaze then glanced over to the photographers to see that they were now going through all of the images they had just taken to see if there was anything worth selling. But the smile on their faces, it seemed that the both of them had done a good job. Now hopefully their parents would be happy tomorrow, but only time could tell.

Once they got to the drink table, Lance turned his attention back to Evelyn. He watched for a long moment as she grabbed a glass of wine. Though once it was in her hands, Lance leaned down and whispered to her. "I say, in about-" Lance hummed and glanced down at his watch for a moment before continuing on. "30 minutes, we sneak out. I think we both have been here long enough and we certainly would have made it through most of the party at that point."

Even though Lance had come late, he was more than ready to get out of there as fast as possible. Plus, since their parents already got what they wanted from the engagement, he was sure that none of them would be all that upset about the two of them dipping out.

An hour after following Lance's grand scheme of things, Evelyn had received a text message from her mom. Freaking out since she had disappeared from the party without saying anything. Which, to be honest, was a childish thing to do. Evelyn knew that, but she really didn't want to deal with saying goodbye to all of their guests. So instead, she just told her mother that she had hurt her ankle during her last dance and Lance had taken her home. An easy lie that her mother accepted. Of course, that also meant that she had to fake limp around the house for the rest of the weekend.

Come the first Monday of the school year, Evelyn told her mother that her ankle felt better and that she didn't need the crutches that her mother went out and bought. The woman was a control freak, but Evelyn loved her. Even if she was one of the people forcing her to marry her best friend. Walking into school in her uniform, a chill ran down Evelyn's spine. It felt like all eyes were on her and they most likely were. Some being discrete about it, while others were probably outright staring at her. Evelyn, the shy and quiet girl was engaged to one of the most popular guys at school. Yup, she could hear them whispering as she walked through the halls.

Moving towards her locker, Evelyn kept her gaze ahead. Not giving the gossiping people the satisfaction to know that their talking was making her feel uncomfortable. Putting in her combination, Evelyn opened her locker and then pulled out her schedule. Looking to see what classes she had first thing in the morning, and keeping her fingers crossed that gym wasn't one of them.
