It was the first day of school, something that Lance usually got excited about. While he didn't love projects and homework, Lance enjoyed his time in school. It was time to get away from home, to not have to worry about running the family business. He enjoyed the sports that he played. And, on top of that, Lance had plenty of friends to spend time with throughout the day. He knew that he was a popular guy there. Though Lance wasn't sure if it was because his status, being on some of the sports teams or because he was such a player with the girls... Maybe a mixture of all three. The thought made him smirk a bit.

Though today was different. Today he was going back to school with the knowledge that surely everyone at school knew that he was engaged now... Definitely took away the fun of his playboy ways. But what really dragged Lance down was all of the comments or questions that people would feel the need to say. He wasn't all that interested in discussing the forced engagement. Though it was going to come up and Lance needed to figure out what to say. Especially since he could tell them that it was just set up by their parents.

As he got out of his parked car, two of his friends were already coming up and asking Lance what felt like a million questions. He tried his best to answer them, rubbing the back of his neck and giving them a half-smile as he did so. Though as they headed into the school, and passed by Evelyn, Lance suddenly was at her side, wrapping an arm around her shoulders loosely. "We were just talking about how I proposed to you. I know how much you love that story, how about you tell it."

History with Mr.Randall, English with Miss. Holden, Gym with- Evelyn was snapped out of her little head as she felt an arm wrap around her shoulders. Her body jolting a little bit at the surprising contact. Her eyes shifting from Lance towards his friends before what he had told her started to register in her mind. "The story about how you proposed?" She repeated her words a little bit mumbled as she tried to think about what Lance was getting at. Clearly, she needed more sleep because it took her a moment to realize that Lance wanted her to make up a story to tell his friends.

Then, once she had realized what he was getting at. A small smile slowly graced Evelyn's lips as she leaned into his side. "It's more of a sweet memory instead of a story," Evelyn mumbled, forcing her cheeks to turn a light shade of pink by thinking of something embarrassing. "It happaned while we were in France for summer. Lance rented out a whole restaurant on the water. He arranged for a piano player to play some of my favorite pieces. It was quite romantic." Evelyn raised her gaze through the corner of her eye towards Lance before looking at his friends. "I've known Lance for years and had no idea he knew how to be so romantic." She offered a small smile up at Lance as she said that.

"I was pleasantly surprised that the whole night. Lance had pulled my chair out for me at dinner, he remembered my favorite flowers. Then, when we're done eating, Lance and I took a walk down a beach that was nearby and proposed to me." Evelyn released a small sigh. "It was so surprising and unexpected. My heart still hasn't stopped fluttering." Evelyn leaned up on her tippy toes and pressed a small kiss to Lance's cheek to seal the deal on their love. As well as squash some of the rumor's that their engagement was fake.

As Evelyn told their fake engagement story, he smiled down at her warmly. It was a bit on the overly romantic side, but overall, Lance felt like Evelyn didn't do a bad job with making up something on the spot. In the least, the story seemed fitting for a proposal story and something that a guy in love would do. Plus it also fit with Lance's status. Someone like him couldn't accept anything less than the best. As she kissed his cheek, Lance gently ran a hand through her hair.

"I didn't know Evelyn had you so whipped, Lance." One of the men said as he smacked Lance on the shoulder. "Come on, what happened? Just last year you were such a playboy and now you're getting married?"

Lance sighed and shook his head at Williams. "Williams, you wouldn't understand as someone who hasn't been able to keep a girlfriend past a month. It's not about being whipped, but about wanting to make that other person happy. I love Evelyn and know she doesn't deserve less than the best and my proposal was going to meet that."

The two men looked at each other for a moment and Lance continued on. "Besides, you two should be happy I am off the market. Means I am not competition anymore and can be your wing man."

At that comment, both of the men smiled wildly, with Williams smacking his shoulder. "Well congrats to the both of you then!" The man said.

"Yes, congratulations." Peter looked to Maisie, "I always knew you two would end up getting married. When is the wedding?"

Pursing her lips together, Evelyn forced herself to smile. Pretending that she was more than content with listening in on this conversation. When in actuality, she wanted to murder Lance and hide for the rest of the day. Who knew reading a romance novel last night before bed would help her escape something that could have ended up kicking her ass and causing a shit storm. Especially if these two headaches head anything to do with it.

"Thanks, guys," Evelyn said quietly as she looked between the two boys that she's been forced to hand out with since middle school. The fact that Lance is friends with them is the only reason Evelyn talks to them. Otherwise, she'd walk the other way. "When's the wedding?" Evelyn repeated, arching an eyebrow at Peter, and then looking up at Lance. "We were thinking about sometime after college. Right?" Evelyn smoothly moved the attention back to Lance. Having no idea when they were even supposed to be married.

Just then, the bell rang for the start of the first class. "Ah, I don't want to go to history. Mr.Randoll is such a creep." Evelyn mumbled, her nose wrinkling cutely in disgust. "I'll speak with you guys later." Evelyn looked up at Lance and offered a small smile, not wanting to give more PDA then was required before grabbing her books and heading off. And as she walked, she was plotting how to throw Lance under the bus for what he had done.

Before Lance could say anything else to his fiancée, she was already heading down the hallway towards history class. He let out a little hum, noting to himself that Mr. Randoll was a creep that Evelyn did not like. Although this wedding was a whole sham... Although they two of them were not actually together, Lance supposed it was now his responsibility to protect her where he could. And perhaps he could do something about the teacher so Evelyn no longer had to deal with him. It was just a thought, but it might be a good idea to show Evelyn that this engagement didn't have to be all bad.

Though that would be an issue for later. Lance turned back to his friends, a huge smile on his face as they made their way to math class. It wasn't his favorite subject. Though Lance supposed it wasn't all that bad either. He just wished that it wasn't so early in the morning.

Lance spent most of his morning talking to his friends and others that he knew well enough at school about the engagement. Everyone was 'so happy for them' or 'totally excited for the wedding of the century. Most of them acted like they saw their relationship from a mile away. Which was impossible since him and Evelyn didn't even see their engagement from 10. And Lance couldn't help but be annoyed by the fact that his father's decisions were now interfering into his school life. Hopefully everyone would be over it by the end of the week... Though, admittedly, Lance even knew that there were some who were not so excited about the engagement.

When lunch came around, Lance started to look around the cafeteria for Evelyn. She was probably having just as bad of a day as him.

Could today be going any slower? It felt like it was dragging on and on. People kept staring, asking Evelyn questions. Some innocent, while others were not. People that Evelyn had never talked to, we're interested in getting close to her now. Wanting to get in her graces to be invited to one of the most anticipated weddings of the century. Others hoping to make connections to push their families businesses to greater lengths in the future. Offering favors in return for things that Evelyn didn't even have authority over, nor would she ever. It was so odd.

By the time that lunch came around, Evelyn just wanted to leave and crawl under her blankets. Hide from the world, to not have to deal with things like this. To feel like she was being used, to have to wonder if people she was actually friends with were turning on her. Never in Evelyn's life had she felt so alone, then she did today, all because of something that would usually cause everyone involved to be overjoyed. This whole situation sucked.

Sitting back in her seat at the lunch table, Evelyn raised her gaze and spotted Lance looking for her. She raised her hand slightly and waved it slightly to get his attention before she lowered her hand and folded her arms on the table. Resting her head on her arms. A small sigh escaped from her, exhausted. This whole thing was exhausting. "I never thought about skipping school to grab some Starbucks until today," Evelyn mumbled once Lance was seated at the table. "Today sucks, oh and thanks for earlier," Evelyn mumbled quietly, and then shut her mouth. Pursing her lips, Evelyn raised her head and looked around to make sure that nobody had heard her mumbled to her best friend. Thankfully, it was still just the two of them at their usual lunch table. "How's your day so far?" Evelyn asked, Leaning over to pull the salad her family's chef-prepared for her lunch out of her bag.

Once his eyes landed on Evelyn, Lance made his way over to the table. Though there was a slight moment of hesitation as he thought about sitting across from her before realizing that he should probably be at her side. It was going to be hard to remember to look like the perfect couple, to think about what he should do as her fiancee and not what he was used to doing as her friend. Though he managed it and sat down at her side, letting out a small sigh as he did so. Today had been a lot and it was only noon.

As Evelyn laid her hand on his shoulder, he glanced down at her for a moment before wrapping his arm loosely around her waist. He was quiet as she spoke, nodding a little as well. Though his eyebrows furrowed together as she 'thanked him for earlier'. "What?" Lance asked her, keeping his voice low as well. "I didn't do anything." At least, to his knowledge, Lance had not down anything wrong. They had barely seen each other up until this point.

"It's been a....interesting day." Lance told her as he removed his arm from around her waist, now focusing on his food. "I wish people would just shut up and go away though. It feels like everyone is trying to get into our business." He mumbled as he glanced around the cafeteria. He could see a lot of eyes on them. Which wasn't completely unusual for Lance. After all, people did talk about him at times during games or when his father's companies did something particularly interesting but this time was different. This time, Lance really didn't care for it. "You know, we could just skip school. Do you want to leave? Go get Starbucks?"

A snort escaped from Evelyn as she listened to Lance. She couldn't help but to roll her eyes and lightly slap his shoulder. "I was being sarcastic, babe," Evelyn added the little term of endearment as someone passed by and glanced at the duo. A small smile playing along her lips as she looked up at Lance. "You threw me under the bus, with having to pull that story out of my butt." She explained, and then stuck her tongue out at him teasingly. "We should have just talked about that subject before school."

Starting to pick at her food, Evelyn listened to Lance. Glancing up at him every now and then as he spoke. Her head nodding ever so slightly. People have been asking her about Lance and the Wedding all day. Wanting to know every little detail. It was annoying and most of the time she had no idea what to say. "My head hurts from all of the questions," Evelyn mumbled quietly, her head shook ever so slightly.

A small sigh escaped from Evelyn as she sat up straight and looked towards Lance. "Can we? I could use a latte." Evelyn murmured quietly, moving to put her lunchbox back into her bag. "I also don't want to be here today." Another small sigh escaped from Evelyn as she slowly stood up from her seat. Ready to leave the school with her best friend.

"I wasn't trying to throw you under the bus! And clearly it wasn't all that difficult for you when you pulled that great story out of your ass. Besides, you should be happy that you were able to tell the story, my mind went blank and who knows what kind of dumbass shit that would have come out of my mind about the proposal." Lance started to shake his head at Evelyn. "And I am sure there are a lot of stories that we need to figure out now."

"Same." Lance said in agreement. This was easily the most stressful day he had ever had at school. And he could only hope that their classmates would started to care less about this development as time went on. After all, they all had their own lives to worry about, right? Well, at least he would like to think. "Yeah, lets get out of here," Lance said as he got up from his chair and grabbed his bag. Once Evelyn was up on her feet, he wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her in to keep her protected from all of the eyes.

Although they weren't exactly allowed to leave school, Lance knew how to get out without getting caught. So after moving through the hallway, Lance brought her out through the back of the school before bringing her around to the parking lot. Once there, Lance opened the door for Evelyn before hopping into the car.

Alright, Lance had a point. Who knows what sort of story he could have made up. Probably something that sounded unrealistic with ninja's and kidnapping or something like that. If she was unlucky, maybe something from one of his many video games or something. Either way, Evelyn didn't want to think about it. What's done is done and she didn't want to think about it anymore. She can't turn back time, so it's best to forget the incident and move on with their lives.

Following Lance out of the cafeteria, she kept glancing around warily as they moved through the halls and then eventually left the school. "You know, this is actually the first time I've ever skipped school," Evelyn said as she got into Lance's car. She leaned back into the seat and buckled her seatbelt. Then, she raised her arms up as she stretched her arms above her head. "I'm exhausted and I've only been up for barely five hours. " Evelyn mumbled as she turned her head towards her window and watched the scenery pass them by as Lance drove them towards Starbucks. Her mind wandering back and forth as she thought about what she wanted to drink today. To try something new or to get something she knew that she liked.

As they arrived at the cafe that had become her addiction since she was in middle school, Evelyn looked towards Lance. "You're paying, right?" She asked, meaning to tease him as she flashed him a small grin. She'll fight him tooth and nail about paying for her drink, it was a sort of independent thing that she had and he knew it.

"What kind of fiancée would I be if I didn't pay for your drink?" Lance asked her with a chuckle. He already knew that she was not going to allow him to pay for it. Though he didn't quite understand why. They both came from rich families. The $6 meant nothing to both of them. In reality, it meant even less to him that it did to her. It was just because his family had a lot more money than hers and her family was already quite well off. But Lance would leave it alone. If it was something that made her feel better, than why should he interfer?

Since it was the middle of the day, they were able to get straight to the intercom to order. No one was currently in line. Though when the woman asked what they wanted to order, Lance asked her to just wait a moment as they glanced over the menu. Lance took a quick glance, just wanting to see their seasonal specials were. Though he was able to determine they had nothing he wanted so he went ahead and ordered his usual.

Lance glanced back at Evelyn. "What would you like?" He asked her. Once Evelyn told him her order, he told the starbucks worker and then made his way towards the window. Lance pulled out his credit card, knowing that Evelyn would pay him back if she really wanted to.

A snort escaped from Evelyn, she couldn't help it. Her pursed lips tilted up into a small smile as she slowly shook her head at Lance. He was such a dork sometimes, ever since they were little he's teasing her and she'd tease back. They were like two sides of the same coin, yin, and yang. He was talkative while she was quieter. He was good at sports while Evelyn tripped over her own two feet often. He's popular while, Evelyn is not. He's everything that she wished she could be. He was perfect. while she was a mess.

"Iced chai latte with soy milk, please," Evelyn said quietly, then saw he had his card out and playfully rolled her eyes once more. Once their drinks were ordered and they pulled around to the window to pay and get their drinks, Evelyn couldn't help but sit up. The excitement in her eyes as Lance handed her the drink. "Thank you," Evelyn said quietly as she brought the cold drink to her lips and hummed quietly at the delicious taste. The sweetness of the tea causing her taste buds to explode in pure joy. "Hmm, just as good as I remember it," Evelyn murmured quietly.

Setting her drink into one of the two cup holders, Evelyn looked towards Lance. "So, where to? Do you want to go back to school or go somewhere?" Evelyn asked, game to do whatever her friend wanted to do.

After Lance paid, he grabbed both of their drinks through the window. Once Evelyn had hers, and he took a small sip of his, he drove away from the drive thru and onto the road. At that moment, he wasn't heading anywhere in particular. Lance was not quite sure where they wanted to go. Though as Evelyn asked if he wanted to head back to school, the man couldn't help the laugh that came out. "School?! We just got out and you want to sneak back in?"

Lance shook his head at her before taking a longer drink from his coffee. It was certainly clear that she was not used to skipping class. One didn't sneak out just to try and sneak back in. It seemed that there were some things that he would need to teach her this year. Hell, after all, now that they were engaged and it was senior year, things at school mattered less. Lance really only needed a couple of classes to graduate and his lack of attendance wouldn't stop it. And who knew if Evelyn would even go to college. She wouldn't need it as a trophy wife.

"Somewhere else." Lance mused as he glanced at the buildings they were passing. He let out a small hum in thought as he tried to think about what they could do with the rest of their day. "We could always go back to one of our houses. Or go see a movie?" He asked as he moved his eyes back onto the road. "Go for a hike or just drive around and see something interesting. I guess it doesn't matter to me as long as we don't go back."

Pure confusion appeared upon Evelyn's face as she listened to Lance laugh at her. She honestly had no idea what was so funny. She was being serious, were they going to head back to school now that they had their drinks? She'd seen plenty of people come back from lunch with a cafe's logo on drinks before. "I thought that was the point, to sneak out to get Starbucks and then sneak back in," Evelyn mumbled, then pouted as she looked away from Lance. Sulking a little bit as she had no idea what the intention had been for the whole thing. Evelyn was a good girl, she couldn't remember the last time she'd done something bad in school.

Humming quietly, Evelyn thought about what Lance was suggesting. "I can't go home, my mother's there and she'd freak out if she saw me. Wouldn't your parents freak if they saw you home when you're supposed to be in school?" Evelyn asked as she glanced at her best friend. "How about a hike instead, I think we have some things to talk about and I want to hear about this waterfall that's at the end of the Hevelan Trail." The Hevelan trail was a trail that people have been talking about recently, It was located in the national park a couple of miles away and had just opened.

"What do you say?" Evelyn asked, wanting to make sure that Lance was cool with going for a hike with her instead of going to one of their houses or movie as he had suggested. "It's supposed to be really pretty."

"What? No. Why would we sneak out to sneak back in? You literally said to me that you wanted to skip school and get Starbucks?" Lance looked at her with confusion written all over his face. He didn't understand why she would want to do that. The man hesitated for a moment before shaking his head a bit. "I can bring you back to the school if you want but I am not going to go in with you. But you shouldn't have any issues getting back in the same way we went out."

Lance shook his head a bit. "No, my parents wouldn't care if I was home when school was going on. As long as I don't skip that much, they don't care. With all of the responsibilities my father has put on my, my mother convinced him that I need a break from time to time. And learning how to run the company is more important than my classes sometimes." He gave her a little shrug. In truth, the only reason his father let it slide was because he still got great grades. Though if it slipped for a moment there would be Hell to pay.

"We can go on a hike if you're up for it?" Lance said as he glanced at her for another moment, just trying to read her face while he could. "Though I can bring you back to school if you rather not get into trouble."

Listening to Lance's surprise at her asking if they'd be going back to school made Evelyn feel like a fool. A child with their hands caught in a cookie jar. "I just, never done this before. So don't sound so shocked. I was a question." Evelyn mumbled as she looked at Lance with a confused look before looking down at her drink. The ice jiggled for a moment as they drove over some bumps. Evelyn always wondered where Lance went when he suddenly disappeared, sometimes alone and other times with his guy friends. Even though they've been friends for ages, it still felt odd to Evelyn. Doing something adventurous for the first time with a guy she'd known practically her whole life. Since they were in diapers really.

"Let's, let's go hiking. I want to see this waterfall I've been hearing about." Evelyn said as she glanced towards Lance once more. Urging him to drop the topic and just get them to this place she'd heard people talk about. Because if he kept asking her if she wanted to go back to school, then she'd give in and say yes. Going back to being the coward that she was.

"I just wish I had my gym shoes still in my bag," Evelyn mumbled quietly, her nose wrinkling slightly at the idea of wearing her normal shoes on the trail. She'd have to have one of the staff her parents hired to clean them. Hopefully, they'd be able to get all of the dirt off before school tomorrow or her mother would freak out.

"That sounds good to me." Lance told her with a smile. He was glad that she decided to spend the rest of the day with him. It would be boring if he brought her back to the school.... Though he supposed he wouldn't entirely mind having the rest of the day to himself, it was just that he would rather spend time with his friend. Plus, Lance couldn't help but think that it would look weird having left his fiancee at school while he was ditching for the rest of the day. Were these things that he would have to constantly worry about?

"Do we need to get you shoes?" The man asked as he looked over at Evelyn. Lance did have his workout shoes. They were basically always in the car because of the sports he played. It was just easier to keep them with him in case he had to go to a game. No one wanted the coaches to yell at them because they forgot something important. And Lance swore that the coaches would make him play barefoot if he was stupid enough to forget the proper shoes.

Lance made a U-turn to start heading in the direction of the national park that she had mentioned. And, if Evelyn needed it, they could stop by a shoe store. Though his eyes shifted down to look at the woman's feet for a moment before moving his attention back to the road. "I think the shoes you have on would work, wouldn't they?"

Looking down at her shoes as Lance spoke, Evelyn wrinkled her nose slightly in thought before shrugging her shoulders. "Should be fine, I can just hear my mothers voice in the back of my mind chiding me about the difference between school shoes, athletic shoes, and blah blah blah. You're a lady Evelyn, you need to keep these things in mind." A huff escaped from the young lady as she rolled her eyes. Her annoyance with her mother obvious in her tone of voice.

Raising her eyes, Evelyn watched the scenery change as Lance drove. From the city scenery that they were used to, changing to the country as they got closer to the trail that Evelyn asked for them to visit. "I didn't realize that this place was so far out there." She mumbled, looking around in awe at how beautiful this area. Why she'd waited this long to take a trip to the national park was beyond her. "Woah," Evelyn mumbled, and to think they hadn't even gotten to the actual park yet.

"You don't think there's any bears or something on the trail, do you?" Evelyn asked as they pulled down the road that'll lead them to the trail parking area. "I don't really want to get eaten today." She mumbled, looking for any sort of sign for the scary animal that she'd only seen in the zoo or on the animal channel on TV.

"Well, in that case, I wish you the best of luck with your mother later today. And whatever you do, don't blame this one me. I need my new mother-in-law to like me." Lance joked lightly before he lightly nudged her in the arm with his elbow. It was a joke about their engagement but it felt better to joke about it at this point than to outright ignore it. After all, the rest of the school wasn't ignoring it... their parents weren't ignoring it... As much as he tried, this wasn't something he could pretend wasn't happening just because he tried to avoid mention of it.

His eyes shifted as it scanned the side of the roads to see some kind of sign pointing out the entrance to the park. "Yeah, I guess it is a bit farther than I thought it was as well. But I don't have anything to do for the rest of the day. Hopefully, you don't need to be anywhere either." His head shifted as he saw a sign pointing out the parking area. Lance turned that way and started to slow down as they go to the park road.

"I doubt that bears are just hanging out around the trail. Though they are probably in the forest. Best not to worry about it, I think." Lance said as he pulled into a parking spot and turned off the car. "Hell, if it makes you feel better, just think about the fact that if one of us gets eaten, we don't have to get married. Sometimes you have to look at the positive things in life, Evelyn." With that, Lance got out of the car.

"I think it's a little late for that," Evelyn mumbled quietly as she glanced at Lance through the corner of her eye and then slowly looked back towards her window. The corners of her lips twitching to smile, but Evelyn tried to hold them back. Wanting her sarcastic reply to hand in the air a bit more before she outright lost this little battle. "Well, I was planning on going on a date with his cute guy I saw in the gym, but I guess I'm stuck with you. Ugh." Evelyn said and then chuckled as she shook her head. Lance could easily call that lie, she'd unleashed her boy troubles on him for years, talking about how all of the cute guys she likes turn out gay or were not interested in her. If anyone did talk to Evelyn and she didn't want them to, which was rare, Lance would threaten them. Acting like her superhero.

Raising her drink to her lips, Evelyn was just about to take her last sip when Lance made his stupid joke about being eaten. Not being able to help herself, Evelyn snorted and rolled her eyes at Lance's stupid joke. Wiping away the water that had blown from her nose. A couple of coughs follow before Evelyn followed Lance's lead and exited the car. "You know, as the guy, you're supposed to sacrifice yourself for me. After all, I am a lady and would be the damsel in distress." Evelyn said and then flipped some of her hair over her shoulder as she gave Lance a grin as she closed the door.

Keeping her head held high, Evelyn started to walk towards the trails entrance. Her bright blue eyes looking around slowly. Wanting to take everything in. To get an idea of what they'd be seeing. Thankfully, it seemed that the path was paved sorta nicely. The dirt path flat for them, mostly. An quite easy for them to see where they'd be going as they walked.
