Dean smiled as he walked along the lake by his house. He was looking down into the gorgeous clear blue liquid. It was so clear, you could see plain down to the bottom. See all the creatures swimming around, could see all the plants growing. He walked around the lake about one to two times a day, making sure nobody had dropped trash inside or anything harmful. If they did, he got it out. He didn’t want the water to be polluted. Today he had nothing to pull out of the lake. He couldn’t use his powers to get the trash out since there were humans who lived in the houses near his own so he went on swims to do it. He didn’t mind. He loved water.

He went to the dock and down to the edge before he sat down to dangle his legs over the edge. He smiled as he leaned back, resting the palms of his hands down on the cool wood. The sun was just rising. He was a morning person. Loved the whole rise early, get breakfast, drink a cup or two of coffee, go on a run, walk or swim and drink in the morning rays as the sun came up.

‘Why are you such an early bird? You wake me up everytime,’ Riley complained as she walked over to Dean.

Dean smiled as he looked over at his sister, ‘I love the morning.’

‘Well can you love it a little quieter.’

Gwyn could hear them from her place in the tree. She held her breath back as the pounding of her heart roared in her ears. It had been maybe thirty minutes since she climbed into this tree to try and rest. She had been running for nearly a day. She could hardly keep her eyes open and her body upright. There was now people near the lake. She had hoped to get away from others. The last thing she needed was someone to see her right now and turn her in.

She was being paranoid she knew. No one was looking for her publicly. It wasn't like they could post her like a wanted picture. That would make it seem like they where really hunting the elementals. Which was exactly what they where doing but the general public didn't and couldn't know that. So a select part of the government was in charge of the identification, listing and relocation of all elementals. After the first wave word got around and elementals started to steer clear of anything that could identify them to anyone watching. It was hard to be afraid of something so natural about yourself.

With all of the superhero movies you would think people wouldn't be surprised by the development, that they would not follow the worst plots and be afraid of elementals. That wasn't the case. People where afraid of elementals. Afraid of what they could do, of what it meant, of the change. When people where afraid they acted out of that fear. That lead to things like elemental concentration "communities". They said it was like the suburbs where those of their own kind could safely mingle. What that meant was guards and regulations like curfews and roll call. It was segregation in its worst form.

Gwyn was not going there. She was not going to be told how to live and live in the lines where using her abilities was discouraged. It was part of the system to try and find ways to reintegrate them back into the normal population. Which meant power shaming and in some cases power removal. Of course there was some unspoken cases of the military coming in offering "opportunities". That was code for weaponizing at any cost. That lead to elementals hunting their own kind. She had to avoid all of this. Light elementals where rare. They where more dangerous than fire elementals but more stealthy than any other element. Light elements controlled what people saw after all.

Gwyn didn't realize her eyes had actually closed and she fell out of the tree exhausted and passed out on the forest floor.

Dean looked up when he heard a thud not too far from him. He got up and cautiously went to investigate. When he got close enough, he saw it was unconscious woman. Where had she come from? He didn’t know her from the neighborhood or around town. Her hair looked ruffled, her clothes all wrinkly, it looked like she had been running from something but running from what? He didn’t know. He bent down and picked her up.

‘Who is that? I’ve never seen her around?’ Riley looked at Gwyn.

‘I have no idea but let’s take her inside and get her comfortable on the couch. I’ll make her something to eat and when she wakes up, I’ll see if I can get her to tell me how she ended up here.’

‘I’ll go get the couch ready,’ Riley ran ahead back to the house to quickly put a nice fluffy pillow at one end and a blanket at the other. Dean carried Gwyn to then into the house and over to the couch. He laid her down before Riley covered her up to her chest with the blanket. While she did that, Dean turned and went into the kitchen to make something for the woman to eat. If she wanted it, that’s good. If not, she could either take it with her or he or Riley would eat it later.

Gwyn could feel the sunlight filtering through the window. It was nearly evening now. The sun was giving one last ditch effort to flood the world with its light. She rolled over and snuggled into the blanket. Her eyes popped open and she sat up. She looked around the strange house inhaling the strange air. This didn't look like the third country that the elemental suburbs where decorated with. She looked around seeing a couple pictures and relaxed. They hadn't caught her. Still she had no idea where she was or who had brought her here. She stood stretching. She must have slept all day. It was quite enough for any hospitable host. "Hello?" she called. She saw a bottle of water on the table beside her and picked it up. It was unopened so she risked it and drank from it the cotton in her mouth subsiding as she finished the bottle. She walked over to the window seeing a man coming up the back steps. His floppy hair and broad shoulders where in direct conflict for his image. Made him look like a surfer or even a biker with those hips and his intensive stride. She looked at the door as he walked in. "Hello." she said softly watching his eyes turn upon her.

Dean looked over when he heard a feminine voice, that was not his sister. He saw the woman that he brought into his house was awake and sitting up, ‘hey, you’re awake. You hungry? I made some food. It’s in the fridge now but I can heat it up for you. If not, that’s fine. Anyway my name is Dean Dilaurentis. This is my house. I found you passed out on the ground outside. I hope it was okay me bringing you in here. I mean I couldn’t just leave you outside like that.’

‘Is she awake? Oh she is. Hi my name is Riley. I’m this person’s sister. I’ll go heat up her food.’

‘Hey Riley, wait...’

Before Dean could get another word out, his sister was already in the kitchen, making Gwyn’s plate.

‘Sorry about her. She likes to jump the gun sometimes. She’s like an over excited energizer bunny. Oh we never gave you a chance to say anything. Sorry about that. I guess I’m the same way.’

Gwyn thought about eating. She was starving but did she trust them enough to eat their food. She nodded as he spoke about bringing her in here. She was grateful he had brought her into his home. Her head spun hearing someone else She looked over the girl as she rambled on her eyes widening. She looked back at Dean as he kept talking and smirked softly as he came to to conclusion they had both been talking so quickly and not let her talk. She pulled her hair over to the side. "I'm Gwyn." she said figuring it was safe to give her name since they had given her theirs after all.

She looked down at herself. "Do you have a bathroom?" she asked him and let him show here where it was. She slipped behind the door and looked at herself in the mirror. She looked terrible. Gwyn ran her fingers through her hair and tried to clean herself up. She looked more presentable as she came back out. She sat back on the couch as the girl placed some food down in front of her. "Thank you... I don't mean to impose." she said.

‘You’re not imposing. Go ahead, eat. We made it for you. I promise it’s not poisoned. I’ll eat some if you want me to,’ Riley smiled at Gwyn, ‘would you like anything to drink? We have water, soda, alcohol, milk, juice. You name it, we most likely have it. Big liquid people.’

‘Don’t make us sound creepy,’ Dean smirked at Riley.

‘Hey I say the truth.’

‘Yeah but liquid people. Really?’

‘It’s true.’

Dean shook his head, laughing, ‘Gwyn if you need some place to stay, you can always stay here. We have a guest room upstairs. Has a bathroom inside. Honestly it’s just me and my sister. We don’t mind the company. Especially from actual nice non nosy people. Our neighbors like to butt into everything.’

Gwyn blushed as he said it wasn't poisoned. Why would he say that? she shook her head as he offered to eat some. She didn't want to seem paranoid. "Umm..." she felt like they where saying more than they meant. She snickered at the siblings back and forth. She took a bite of the food and was eating when Dean offered her a place to stay. She frowned and looked down.

The room got real quiet and she could feel Riley chastising her brother with her eyes. "Thank you..." she finally said. "Is it that obvious I am in need?" she asked not looking up. She was surprised he would offer her a place to stay. He didn't know anything except her first name. If it was her or her family they wouldn't have brought him or his sister in past the porch chairs. "You're really kind but I wont stay any longer than I have to. I don't want to get any of you involved." she said. She was sure they where hunting her but how hard she didn't know. It had been a few days and she was fairly far away by now.

‘You can stay as long as you need too. Honestly we may seem a little weird but we’re good people. We’re not going to kick you out onto the street. I promise you,’ Dean gave Gwyn a smile before he went upstairs to give her some time to herself to eat and drink her water or whatever his sister got the other woman to drink. He wanted to take a shower before he had to go to work. He knew leaving a stranger alone in his house wasn’t the best thing to do or the smartest but something in his gut told him that he could trust her and he’s never had a wrong gut feeling.

He took a long hot shower before he got out to dry off and get dressed in his work uniform. He was running the brush through his hair the moment that he got back onto the first floor. He went over to Gwyn, ‘hey I have to go to work but Riley will be here if you need anything. She’ll be upstairs doing online classes for school. Her room is the second door on the left hand side. I’ll be home in about ten hours.’

Dean gave her a smile before he went to the door, got his shoes on then grabbed his bag and left.

Gwyn looked down as Dean spoke. She nodded. She ate and drank before cleaning up after herself. She looked up from her spot on the couch as Dean came back. She raised a brow at the uniform. "What do you do for work?" she asked with a smirk. He told her where his sister was and she nodded. "Okay. Bye." she said surprised he had to work such long hours. She bit her lip at that smile he gave her. Why was it easy to be around him?

Gwyn waited until he was gone before she stood. She walked around the down stairs committing to memory the windows and doors or the dead ends. She then headed up stairs and remembered which he said was Riley's room. She quietly checked everything else out and found the spare room. She touched the curtains as she looked out the window. It was very homey here. She didn't know if she should stay or not. It was dangerous really to stay somewhere too long. But maybe a few days wouldn't hurt. She could lay low and rest.

She would have to find some way to help out around the house. She could make dinner and clean. That would probably be helpful. It wouldn't take a ton of time either and she could figure out everything else she would need to keep going. The first was she needed to figure out where she was going next.
