@ A Drop On the Window
The soft marital of her
jumper rippled under her weight as she shifted in her seat. This was hopefully the last time they'd reschedule this decision. Her father was holding out for more money, and the hope that another suitor would offer a better deal for her hand. And honestly it was draining. She'd honestly didn't understand much of what was going on in the business aspect, just that she was suppose to appear interested. To be a supporting wife, and not a trophy. But in all honesty she was feeling more and more like the latter. Her father made her work for his company after she graduated but she was just a secretary. One that was on a short lease. She'd not been able to talk to men let alone date. She knew her place well but it was all just for show. One she was hoping would end very quickly.
The attention she'd received from Jamie boosted her confidence. Yet pulled her further into her shell. She knew she was pretty it wasn't hard to see, but it was also an ego crusher when her parents scared away all her suitor. So when Jamie deal came into play, a large part of her was ecstatic. She'd finally be able to live. Her own life and not as a puppet. But as the proceeding for business drug on the excitement dwindled. And her hope slowly started to fade. The man she was to wed seemed just as controlling and impatient as her father. And that scared her.
Hearing his voice her eyes shifted to that man causally sitting across from her mother, and lightly to her left. Her eye took in his features. But she pulled her glance from him quickly turning to her father. "I think that's a wonderful idea." Her mother quickly interjected knowing that the stalling wasn't helping business at all. But also had spoken to her husband. They'd agreed to pay for the wedding, so really it didn't hurt to let them pick out things for the grand day. After all the groom could be changed at any minute. Surprise written over her face as her father nodded, "well what do I know about wedding?" He gave his wife a knowing look. But none the less agreed to allow their daughter to plan her wedding.
A yawn escaped her lips as she sat trying not to nod off to sleep. Class was droning on and on. And she knew the teacher was doing everything he could to shove as much information down their throats. But at some point they'd all stopped listening. Most were whispering to one another while other were passing notes or drawing. Luckily for her she found herself in the furthest seat in the back. Feet propped up on the one in front of her, and her head tilted back. Paying attention to the teacher the furthest thing from her mind. After all her plan was to get the hell out of dodge after graduating. No care in the world if she actually did anything with her life. Her best friend and sister were the only ones that really mattered to her. Her sister always busy with something their parents wanted, leaving her to text and message both her and her bestie. Living in different states had that effect. Making her out to be a class a loner. Not that she wanted it. But a long time ago her parent had branded her a bad child. And since then not many parents wanted their children around her. And that led to teasing, bulling and fighting. So unfortunately that landed her in detention. Most of the time she'd be the only one getting it even if there'd been another person.
The shrill of the bell indicated the end of school, meaning the beginning of her detention. Grabbing her bag she slung it over her shoulder before making her trek out of the class room. Student bustled around happily yapping about after school plan. While she did her best to navigate the school to her after school hell. She was starting to regret not napping in her last class. But new teacher was handling detention so hopefully he wouldn't care if she passed out. Entering the room she paused noticing the man, his feet up on his desk. Her hopes of him being laid back increased. Approaching his desk she tapped her finger on her thighs not feeling very confident under his gaze. "Peyton Reed." She introduced herself. Not particularly remembering this man. But thinking there may have been a time or two he subbed for a few of her teachers. But that was about it.
