When I was little, my Nana told me she was an alien. 0.0 The funny thing is, she's probably as connected to reality as it gets.

There are six sextillion planets in the universe. How couldn't there be aliens? How could we know what life is on other planets? How could we even know that we're life? Dirt on Mars could be the equivalent of a human being here. How could we know?

Plants communicate with each other on earth, so it's very possible other life forms might not be life forms the way we think they are.

Due to the vastness of space, I'm sure there is life on other planets, quite possibly intelligent life. But, also due to the vastness of space, I doubt we will ever encounter extraterrestrials.

    @ of dru's being.

Except for perhaps simple lifeforms like bacteria, yes. I think many people have an overly fantastic impression of the future. They have no concept of just how far away other galaxies are, how long space travel takes, and how expensive the whole process would be.

Then again, scientists 100 years ago said they thought we were reaching the limits of the possibilities with technology, and they were wrong, so maybe I am too. As a science fiction writer and enthusiast, this is something I would love to be proved wrong about.

Adding my own view into this, correct me if you must.

I believe in aliens, I do. I believe God did make other beings besides humans because I mean, come on.

Think of it as a child, a small girl. She has a doll house, and a Barbie with a Ken and everything. But eventually she might get bored of just having this one toy, so she'll more likely go out and buy another toy.

Just as with God. Who's to say He's not extremely disappointed in the human race, so He went out and created another form of life that's more likely smarter, and better, than us?

Another thing is; all those whatever they are's in South America. Like, the Mayans and the Aztecs? Didn't they create those things (I can't find the word for them, it's on the tip of my tongue) that, if viewed from above, show pictures and creations and everything?

Back then, we didn't have everything. We didn't have helicopters or anything. So how could they see just what exactly they were doing?

This is just a personal opinion that might not even make sense to anyone but me. I just felt like throwing this in there.

I think aliens have to exist. The universe is endless and is still expanding, it is next to impossible for there not to be other planets like ours. It's just that they are light years away so we'll probably never get to meet them or prove their existence any time soon.

The Nazca lines? I believe that's what you're referring to.

I'm sure there's life on other planets. It's incredibly narrow minded to think that we're the only living things. The universe is massive, there's bound to be others out there.
I don't believe in those slimy green things with five eyes and stuff though.
Exactly. I mean, it's nice to think of E.T or some cute, little, furry, pink-and-yellow alien that eats flowers and smoothies are real- but lets face it- the latter is not going to happen. However, the first one might. If there is life forms out there (witch I'm sure there is) I really doubt their going to be like Hello Kitty, though.

I do think it's narcissistic to think we're the only life in this vast, infinite universe but I highly doubt aliens look like us or look like how they're portrayed in the media. I believe in alien life only as microscopic organisms.

I'm just curious as to why you think it's only microscopic. If the universe is infinite, why would we be the only intelligent life? Is that not an equally narcissistic though?

Perhaps, but if you've studied evolution or just biologic science in general you'd know that we are a very rare mix of elements and evolution. I'm sure we're not all that's in the universe but I hardly think anything out there is even remotely similar to us, if there is intelligent life they'd probably far under advanced/evolved that we are or far more advanced/evolved. Under is my guess, more would probably have sought us out already too.

I think the general consensus on alien life within the scientific community is microscopic at best. Makings of life but not quite there yet.

I think in the extreme span of the universe, it's highly likely we are not the only planet with intelligent life. Estimates are that there are up to 2 billion 'earth-like' planets in the Milky Way alone. That means there are 80-100 billion galaxies. If only half of a percent of planets like earth had intelligent life, that would still be 5 billion.

I don't think an extensive study of biology says that at all. We have no idea how "rare" or unlikely we are because we have no whole to compare ourselves to. Speaking on behalf of the scientific community as though they mostly share your opinion is inaccurate.

And the elements of life on earth are not rare in terms of dispersion and quantity- carbon, oxygen and nitrogen are all pretty abundant.

Has anyone heard of SETI (I think it stands for Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence)?

I completely believe in aliens. With how vast the universe is, it only makes sense to me.

Yes. I know some basics about it from lots of alien documentaries and from films.

I don't know about everyone's definition of "alien" but I do believe that there are different creatures that exist in this universe beside human. Some of them have different power and different normal state compared to us so when I see, read, or hear about any kind of sign of different creature (whatever people call it; angel, ghost, devil, alien, even poltergeist), I know that they are there and I accept the fact.

It's just that I don't believe we are about to understand them (yet). In the meantime, let's put the "alien" aside and think about more serious issue that we have in the world.

Aliens directly relate to my faith/religion. It would be hard for me to "put them aside" because it would involve setting aside my faith.
