A main pet peeve of mine is how there are situations where minorities are simply using 'racism' as a scape goat. For example, at my school, there are several incidents where they use the excuse ' It's because I'm {insert race color here}'. Some just mean it in a harmless way, yet it's absurd of how many try to constantly use that as an excuse. It's petty and insult to those who actually experience racial/prejudicial abuse.
ye i agree people do that here too but more in a jokey way but it still offensive to others

I would also like to say that we've mainly been talking about black vs. white in this thread when there are many different kinds of racism. Asians, for instance. Have you ever been told to "Speak some Chinese, you fucking slit-eyed shitwad"? Believe me, I have.

I would like to mention that it seems to me that many people simply seem to think that since black people were the most prosecuted in the US, we focus most of our, for lack of a better word, "racist guilt", on, well, black people. Asians have faced the same amount of prejudice.

I just thought I'd mention that it isn't simply black and white in this case. Others face the same thing daily.
I agree. Though I have never heard an asian get insulted like that I'm sure it happens. Most of the time I hear "postive" stereotypes directed towards Asians. For example, "I bet he has all A's. He's an Asian after all." Though this is a "positive" stereotype, it is a stereotype nevertheless.

Yea, I get that too. I'm just saying that even if it is "She's Asian. Bet she's smart." It can still hurt to hear that. I find it ignorant.

    You have a point.
Racism isn't so bad towards black people here now. Maybe for older generations, but most of the time, I don't hear much racism to black people.

Asians is a different matter. Again; if you're chinese or thai or something, you'll be fairly unscathed. But people from the middle east get it pretty bad. Especially muslims.
Where I live, I normally see racism towards blacks or Mexicans. Everyone is always like, "Mexicans are dirty. Mexicans are short. Mexicans always pack 20 people into one car." I don't really hear racism against Asians. But maybe that's just my location.

As for Middle Eastern people. There is racism towards them too. But it has calmed down GREATLY since 9/11. Immediately after the attacks, racism against them was all that was witnessed. Hate crimes were committed daily and they were being killed or injured left and right. If you were from any of those places in the Middle East you were tortured. 9/11 happened when I was in 6th grade. People found out that my last name orginated from Syrian and that my grandfather was Syrian and I never heard the end of it. I was the only kid in my whole school that was part Middle Eastern except for one other boy who was full Pakistanian. We got called Osama Bin Laden's kids EVERY FUCKING DAY. I felt like shit for years simply because of my heritage. I'm not a terrorist. I love America. I don't even look like a Muslim but my last name got me racially profiled for three years. Three fucking years. I've been called a terrorist more than I've been called a nigger. It's sad and it pisses me the fuck off.

I understand why that would hurt your feelings. People think that since I'm black I should be able to dance. Well guess what fuckers? I can't.

But I must say, here in Canada it's the worst to Arabs. If they know I'vecome from the US, they get incredibly defensive and they don't trust me at all. And they usually get the blunt of all the jokes...

    Yeesh, what a question.

Filipino, Chinese, Spanish, English, Irish, Dutch. But I look much more like my dad's side of the family and therefore look highly Asian. Actually, scratch that. The only thing I have in common with my mom's side of the family is my body type, skinny and long legged. Yeah. Otherwise I'm a spitting image of my dad/aunts/brothers.

Wow... That's a lot. I'm half black (Mom) and the rest is Native American and Syrian (Dad). I've experience a lot of racism because I'm a "mutt"... Disgust

When I tell people my heritage I get this... "Holy crap! That's a lot of random shit!" or "Eww... Terrorist. Are you gonna blow up my house if I get on your bad side?" I've actually had people say those things. Cry

    Very true.

Well I'm gonna leave this thread now because I think that we're getting a little off topic. I'll check the WAYT thread if you want to continue our convo there.

I'm probably one of the luckiest people with regards to race xD
I'm just plain English, and I've never experienced any racism.
'course, I have some German ancestry, on my mother's side. And I'm for sure not a pure 'English' person anyway, since I'm too blonde to be a Celt.

But the German thing is pretty interesting.

Now, I love John Cleese as much as the next British person, but that clip kind of speaks for itself. Its ironic, of course, and a joke, but "Don't mention the war" is such an infamous slogan.

I was in Germany recently at a football game. And now, 60 years on, some people are still singing "10 German Bombers" (its an insulting chant) and being generally pricks about the whole thing. I honestly don't think people will 'forgive' the Germans for a long time here. I'm not sure if its really racism; maybe it is, you decide.

But Germans and British are both white, both european. I was wondering what people thought of it all.

    >.< I'm confused when it comes to racism. When I was younger I was brought up to be polite to all the different races and then I got older and learned all the struggle that races had gone through but now that I'm in high school, everything I have learned is out the window.

In Miami, I am surrounded by wanna be black people who are extremely white people, to put it nicely. But then, they go around acting as if they are actually black. They called eachother the 'n' word act as if that's ok. What the hell is going on with our generation? I hate to focus on black people so much but it's true, they worked so hard to rid that nasty name off of them and kids now use it as if it's friendly. What the hell?

I absolutely HATE HATE HATE that word. I HATE it when fellow black people are like, "'Sup my nigga?" to others blacks. Let me tell you. If another black person ever called me their "nigga" I'd fucking go off on their asses. I wouldn't be nice at all. That word has been used for so many years in such a deroggatory way that it is stupid to use it in a "friendly" connotation. Do white people call each other crackers? Do spanish people call each other spics? Do other asians call each other chinks? No. So don't let a black person ever call me a "nigga" because I don't play that shit.
