I believe that. Reverse racism isn't uncommon.
It was because if they got punished, their parents came in screaming racism, even if the kid was selling dope!
That's the way it is around here, even with doctors and health care around here. If you get free health care (which we got) we were always last to get tended to because we were white.
    Tas:
    Was it "nigger-lover"? I wouldn't be surprised. That's a common insult towards non-racist whites...
Yes and quite frankly, that hurt. I mean, I'm not one to discriminate who I'd date based on race, but the word itself just irked me.

^ Racism. I don't see a point to that song BESIDES racism.

Another topic of discussion: The movie Undercover Brother. It's a really funny movie, but do you think it's racism?

    I completely agree...

I don't think that Undercover Brother is racist. I saw that movie and I, personally, loved it. I think that they convey stereotypes to be funny but make a point at the same time. Kind of like satire for society's views on blacks and whites in general.

Well, uhm, first. Patti Smith wrote that song, not Manson Image so yeah.
She never intended it to be racist. It was how she identified with them ('niggers'), being outside of society and all that. And of course, we all know that Patti was part of the punk movement way back. Siouxsie Sioux wore a swastika, but she wasn't a nazi. It was all about creating an image, creating tension.

I am fully aware that Patti Smith wrote that song first and that Marilyn Manson covered it. I just chose his name because more people recognize his name before Patti Smith. So let's not all gang up on me and try to make me feel stupid because I don't. I was well aware who the orignal artist was. Kthx.

As for you all saying that it wasn't racist, I have to disagree. I really don't care what kind of "point" they were trying to make. The lyrics are completely offensive and unneccesary. Saying that Jim Hendrix and Jesus were niggers is completely un-called for. I don't see the relevance. I like to analyze songs and I didn't see any other point for them to make this song other than an sorry excuse to say "nigger" as many times as they fucking please. What if I went out and made a song that went like, "I'm a rock 'n' rock cracker. I rule the world 'cause I'm white. Yay yay. Cracker, cracker, cracker. Fuck the world. I do what I want 'cause I'm a cracker." I'd probably get fucking lynched. Things don't work that way. That song is a cover for two racist. Plain and simple. It's racism.

Well, you shouldn't slur facts to try and make a point. Just because more people know him doesn't mean you can give him credit for writing a song he didnt.
    "I don't see the relevance"
That's the problem. You don't understand the song. If you'd noticed it was saying they were degraded in such a way, yet they still accomplished things and hold status intodays society. Everyone under the freaking sun knows who Jimi and Jesus are, correct? You think they both didn't undergo extreme prejudice when they first began? You didn't analyze the song at all. You saw one word, and made a very harsh judgement. :D

Actually, I did read through these lyrics. Numerous times. What I don't understand is why did they have to say nigger? Why couldn't they have said something else that is known as an outcast. Maybe "black sheep" or "ugly duckling". Something that everyone recognizes. I don't see why it had to be a racial slur. Ah yes, to cause controversy. What a way to piss people off. This song wasn't to create a point or controversy. This song was an outlet for their pent up frustrations of racism. And if you don't see that then you are blind.

I believe that that's wrong. Why do you think it's bad that her focus is on one word in the song? It's still a word that African Americans faught off all their lives because of the crudeness of it. You know, 40 years ago, that word was used against black people as if they were fuckin' dogs and now-a-days it's as if it were a nice greeting. So pointing that out amongst the rest of the song is not a bad thing at all.

Yes, it was a word used against black people, now black people use it commenly. I mean, I just heard a song where every other word was nigger. The Boondocks, turn it on once in a while, it is probably the greatest new cartoon to come out on Adult Swim- every other word is nigger. But you see, that word is not the point. It is a six letter word that black people, who have complained about it and rightfully so most of their lives, have taken and twisted the meaning. That song, has nothing to do with black people, which racism against black people, or racism for black people. It is unfair to judge a song over a word. Or else we can say every rapper or uses that word is racist.

Where I live, all different types of people use it; white, hispanic, and black. That bothers me because I know where it comes from and how hard people have worked to rid it from them and now it's a greeting. You know? That's what I'm trying to say, it's just not right with all the things that black people went through years ago. It's not fair to them.

You shouldn't make sweeping generalizations such as this. I am black and I don't say nigger as a friendly connotation. I don't know how many times I'm gonna have to repeat myself. I find it damning to my dead ancestors. And I make sure the hip-hop that I actually listen to doesn't say "nigga" every other word. You're making a stereotype saying ALL black people and rappers say "nigga" and they ALL listen/make music using that word too. It's simply not true. These generalizations and accusations are getting really fucking old.

And although I hate it when black people say it, it is still different than when a white person says it. White people normally say it when they are insulting or degrading us. Black people say it as a word to recognize a friend. A fellow black person. But don't get me wrong. It's still ignorant.

What does it matter what it means to us, really?
I think what really matters here, is what those who aren't familiar with these things in which it is used, or those who don't care that it has a different meaning, think of it.
You think that everyone knows that the meaning has been twisted. And maybe most people do, but it doesn't change the fact that some people aren't going to take it that way and some people are going to take it in a racist manner.

You can explain it up and down to a person, but at the end of the day, it's their opinion and you can't change that.

It's still going to offend some people no matter what the meaning. It all comes down to a matter of opinion. Don't decide for people, you can't.

i dont believe i was making a generalization. thus why i said, or, meant to say, was every black person who SAIDS nigger in a different connotation. I don't believe I was "deciding for people" what should they take as offensive or not. I was just saying that she is judging a song based on one word, without looking at the entire meaning of it. Thus, one could say, that every black person who saids that word could be considered racist because it is to the majority a racist word.

Well, I think it's safe to say that people, meaning everyone, should know not to use the word. Defending those who have had to hear it in the degrading way. Sure, at the end of the day, it depends on your opinion but it's safe to say that I hate the word. What about everybody else? Can we really defend something so degrading and twist it into something so nice? As a group of people on this thread, do you think that it was right to twist it?
