Your Biggest Weakness

^That can't be more true. And whenever I don't use them, and if I look over it and it doesn't have an "and", "but" and/or "so" I think that it looks horrible. Sad

Editing. I despise editing with a burning, fiery passion. But, I'm a perfectionist, so I really don't know how all of that works out Shifty

And forgetting something I wrote three chapters ago. I'm really bad at that.

And now that I've gone over and reread this, I found three "and" starters and one "but." I told you it was bad, didn't I?
At least you don't start every sentence with "he" or "she" like some people I know. Coffee

(BTW, that person would be me. Terrible habit. I need to stop.)

  • Focusing on a story.

And writing out the story in its proper format, the way I planned.

  • Starting new stories on a fleeting idea and then never finishing them, not being able to stay focused on a story, and not updating on a regular basis.

Oh, and procrastinating. That's a pretty big one.

  • Writing out of order. I do the beginning and the end, especially if I'm really excited about the story. But then, I already know how it turns out and it's hard to force myself to translate the middle from my head to paper.

  • When I write I generally always miss a word so it looks odd.
Also, I sometimes accidently spell really simple words wrong. Such as; And, I sometimes say 'adn' and stuff like that.
    Not finishing stories...
Also, I have a habit of thinking up a story, I like the idea, so I type some of it up. After awhile I have a million stories that I'm writing, so I delete the ones that I don't think I'm going to finish... Then I get all depressed about it like I've thrown a puppy to the streets to live on its own... :(

  • I'd have to say writing about dark skinned guys that are attractive and tall. Girls with naturally kinky hair, and getting a little too detailed with sex scenes, the way people look and murders.

    EDIT.
And I suck with forgetting people's names and small details that are important to the story (but I've gotten better with it because I write that stuff down)

  • I can never seem to finish my stories unless I entered it in a contest where I have an obligation to finish it. Usually, I get too lazy with the story or I get distracted by a seemingly better story idea that floats around in my head.

I really like editing. tehe Given the choice I'd much rather edit something old than try and write something new. I just find it easier.

    ---

I can't write confrontation to save my life. I can do little arguments where it's basically people sniping at each other, but anything more than that and it just sounds stilted and false and awkward.

I do this a lot when it comes to oneshots, so I end up joining a lot of contests so that I can get them all done.

I think that I have a weakness, as others have mentioned, when it comes to balancing narration and dialogue. Like I usually have paragraphs upon paragraphs of description and then lines upon lnes of dialogue, and that bugs me.

I also have a tendency of going off on tangents about the most random things, so I try to plan out exactly what I'm going to write in my head before I actually sit down to type it out so I'm less likely to ramble.

I do this all the time. I'm not so bad with names, but what I'm really terrible with is age, or in fact anything to do with numbers. I'll say a character is 20 in one chapter and forget and say they're 22 in the next chapter, especially when I have lots of characters of similar ages.
And similarly, I can never remember how long a character has done something for. For example, if I say a character has lived somewhere for three years, I'll then say they've lived there for four years a page later.

I used to be really terrible at finishing stories, but in the last couple of years I've changed completely. I've been really focused on one idea, and found it really hard to write anything else. For the last nine months, pretty much the only things I have written (outside of contests) have been related to my Dreamers books.

Haha, I'm pretty good with numbers but the funny thing is I tend to forget that too. In my now completed story Extranormal, in the beginning of the story I made the character Essence 11 but later on I made her 12. But that's because I did it so long ago (the first chapter when her age was first introduced). I tend to lose track of days passed also. I hate how I do that because it's usually important to the story. I also made the mistake in Extranormal when I had one of the characters give birth seven months after pregnancy completely forgetting about what the time was during the end of the story. But it's okay, I can easily fix that.

  • Whenever I want to write something short, it ends up being super long. And whenever I want to write something long, it ends up being really short. Facepalm

  • Motivating myself to write more. I also get writer's block quite a lot, and it really sucks, because I have a lot of ideas, I just don't know where to start.

Also, songfics. I just can't write them. If I do, it's either cheesy or it has only a small relation to the song. The only way it works is if it's one of those songs that give inspiration.

  • I think just my low self esteem. After writing the first chapter of a story I kind of think "Oh no one's going to read this so don't publish it anyway" and then I just delete the chapter and delete the story.

  • I can't seem to finish stories that have more than one chapter. By the third chapter I get bored with what I've written and I just toss it in my desk to collect dust. Short stories tend to live up to their name when I write them. I've never gone over 300 words with them. Editing isn't something I prefer to do only because I'm afraid I'll ruin the story by adding either too much or just not being clear enough.

  • i love creative sentences, and using varied sentence lengths, but sometimes i'm so bad at it. especially if i'm writing in third.
    August 20th, 2011 at 04:18pm
  • Run on sentences Facepalm It works if it's in first person, though.
Sex scenes mrgun I'm asexual, so if I try it's usually too awkward for me.
Finding a balance between too much and too little description.

  • Over drive. Having the feeling that if I take off writing, it'll never get done. But I guess it's kind of a strength too since I tend to finish all of my stories, regardless of what happens. But I don't relax.

    Introducing everything.
    Leading up to conflict.
    The aftermath of conflict.
    OCs.
    Sex.
    First person in fanfic.
    Third person in original fic.

    Weird, no?
ALL OF THIS, except for the last one. I love writing third person in all fic <3

  • I just realized a weakness of mine while trying to describe a scent - I can't. I have no sense of smell (literally, and I never have) so I have a very difficult time describing scents, and it rarely occurs to me to add it in the description because it's something I live without. I don't know what anything smells like unless someone tells me or I look it up. It's really frustrating because in my opinion good description requires all five senses, so I'm going to have to work on that. :/
