I don't write band fiction because it's technically copyright infringement to use a real living person in a work of fiction.
No, it's not. Copyright infringement is the unauthorized use or reproduction of something covered by copyright law. People are not copyrighted.

It can't even really be considered libel unless the person claims the story actually happened and implied it was true, which would be difficult to do as the stories, by definition, are fiction.

I'm not slamming that you don't write it. That's your decision. But it isn't copyright infringement as you claimed.
I didn't look it up when I posted earlier, but it's actually a privacy/publicity issue. The disclaimer about not having used real people is on the copyright page of a book, is why I thought of copyright. I don't mean to say it's bad to write for recreation, though, just that generally it doesn't get published.

    I write original fiction because:
-It comes naturally to me. I'm always getting inspiration for OFs, but not FFs.
    -I love making up characters.
-I simply love to write it.

    I don't write fanfiction because:
-I don't feel connected to it, like I do with my OFs.
-I don't enjoy writing it like I do with my OFs.
-I have no desire to write it, and I don't see the point in writing something if you have no passion for it.

I write stories about the paranormal because:
    -I've always found it fascinating
-I love to imagine what it would be like to be a paranormal being

I just seem to write what comes to me. Sometimes the story feels like a certain fan fiction character. Sometimes the story feels like someone completely new.

I have a soft spot for Mark and Tom from blink-182 though. Just because I've been a massive fan for such a long time and they both inspire me.

I don't write sex scenes because I just can't. If I even get close to sex in my writing, I feel awkward. I don't know. It's hard to explain. I'm really not immature about the subject ordinarily, but I get all blushy and backward when I even think about writing it. I have a problem; I can't help it. XD

I don't write fanfiction, though I'm tempted to, because no one knows their own best friends well enough to be able to now every exact thing they'd say in every situation. Let alone a celebrity.

I saw The Invention of Lying last night, so I'm gunna use it as somewhat of an example.
When you write original fiction, it is all one big lie, so there are no lies inside it. What I mean is, if your character says something, the idea that that character wouldn't say that doesn't come up, unless it's ridiculous. But no one is going to think "What is she talking about? Billy wouldn't shoot her if it was his life or hers!" because it's your character, so you are all knowing. People can't question you. That's not a reason I write Original, exactly, but it's something useful.
I also just love creating characters, especially appearances. It's the best feeling in the world to spend ages writing out every detail of your character, being so precise, and then closing your eyes and suddenly having it all fall into place, being able to picture to character exactly. Even being able to know exactly what they'd say, what they'd wear, all of a sudden. I love it.

I don't write all slash, but unlike het I do have a reason for it, although it's hard to explain. I guess there's kind of something amazing in finding a relationship that the character never thought could exist. When most people meet others, Heterosexual is the default setting. I don't think anyone, or not very many people look at all the boys in their school and decide they're gay unless they say they aren't. Oh dear, I'm not explaining this very well. =/

I'm just going to clarify because I always feel the need to when this "point" gets brought up. Nobody is writing about the actual celebrity. They are writing about characters inspired by and based on an an actual celebrity. Every good writer should know enough about their character to be able to know what they would do in a situation. And that's what fanfiction writers do.

I'm not trying to convince you to write fanfic by any means, but I do like to correct the way people see our way of writing when I think it's being portrayed incorrectly.

    I write fanfiction because:
    1. It's easy. Everything's there for you, you just have to make a plot
    2. You can experiment as much as you want with the canon and crossovers
    3. CRACKFIC. That's all there is to it XD

    I write original fiction because:
    1. I can invent as much as I want and my imagination can go crazy
    2. I can get away with killing whoever I like, and put people I know into them so I can torture them too (passive aggressive!)
    3. OF can get published. FF can't.
    4. I can get my own points across to my readers.

I write the genres I do because:
    1. Comdy is something I'm a natural at, as well as gore
    2. Romance? Not so much. But I try

^^^ Fanfiction, if anything, is harder for me. It sometimes forces me a little out of my comfort zone, and I'm even harder on myself to get things right for some reason when I write fanfiction [I guess deep down I feel I owe it to the person/ character that isn't mine.] I give myself way more pressure.

I'm not arguing with you necessarily. If it's easy for you, then more power to you, but I wouldn't say it's easy in general. It certainly never has been for me.

That's the main reason why I don't write fanfiction much, but when you put it like that, it makes more sense. I still don't feel like I can write it, though. To be honest, I feel a little weird writing about real people. But that's just me.

I write mainly original fiction because it's what I've always done and I feel more comfortable writing it.

I don't write fanfic because I'm not that inspired to. I mean, I love music. But if I wrote about Nate Ruess or Charlie Brand or Rick Shaier, no one would really know who I was talking about (including me, since information about them isn't as available as other musicians like Gerard and Brendan and etc., and it would be just like creating my own characters anyway, since I know nothing about them other than their music). And I'm not going to get into bands like PATD or MCR again just so I can write stories about them. Or whatever else fanfic is written about.

I write original fiction because I like reading original fiction. Not necessarily stories on Mibba, though I can find a good one every now and then.
    Novels.

^ There's also fanfiction involving fictional characters you didn't invent yourself.[ex. Harry Potter, The Doctor, Edward Cullen, etc.] I don't think many people here write it, but I felt it was necessary to point that out. It isn't always about bands.

    [and so this isn't spam!]
I used to write that kind of fanfiction, but I just sorta quit because I started losing interest in the fandoms I was writing and since then, I have yet to adopt a new fandom that either interests me enough/ is good enough to write fanfic about or, conversely, isn't too good for me to comfortably write fanfic about. [like Doctor Who! It's too damn good! I'd do it no justice at all!! Cheese ]

I write fanfiction because it's something I like.
I write in the Twilight fandom because Stephanie Meyer didn't do it right. (Kidding! - I really write it because it's easily manipulated, to me at least.)
I don't write Harry Potter fanfic because I'm sure I'd mess it up.

I write original fiction because I get ideas for it.
I don't write it as much as fanfiction because I feel I can experiment more with fanfiction and then use what works for me with original fiction.

Yeah, I've seen some of that before.

Druscilla said one of the reasons she doesn't write original fiction is because she can't describe the way a character looks well.
I don't think that matters. I personally don't like it when I have to read a whole lot about the way a person looks. I don't feel the need to know exactly what the character looks like. Unless it matters to the story. Otherwise, instead of having the writer tell me how to picture the character, I'd like it better if the writer let me imagine what the character looks like for myself. Or if he just gave me a few little details along the way.
Well, that isn't always true. Sometimes, when a writer's really good at it, it's entertaining enough. But in a lot of good novels the writer doesn't give paragraphs upon paragraphs about the way a character looks. And they don't have to. Sometimes they'll just drop a few details here and there throughout the story. And I think it works really well.

I don't know if that's what she meant about describing the way a character looks. Maybe she meant something entirely different. Nevertheless, I mean what I said.

    Why I don't write fanfiction:
    This video.
If you don't want to watch the whole video, skip to 2:30. And watch until the end.

^ XD Yeah, that's probably another big reason I don't write slash. I don't get embarassed easily [and I usually would likely never be ashamed of anything I wrote that was even kinda good], but if the bands I write about knew about it. I would die. Cheese [I mean the odds of them knowing mine personally aren't bloody likely, but even if they just knew the fandom doing that I would get super embarassed if I knew I was part of it]
