How do you gain comments and readers for your work?

The main idea for getting comments is:
    WRITE A FRERARD.

Or you could have some self respect and you know, not.
Then you just have to be patient.
Although I rather like this thread.
Someone might give some good ideas. ;)

Heh heh, thanks Princess, but...I really don't like writing stories with real people in it. Seems to limit you too much, and then when the character is nothing like the actual person, it kind of annoys me. Maybe it's just me, I don't know, but I don't write Frerards.

In that case, there's really very little you can do.
Though you can pimp it in the Pimping and Reccing Thread.
    Otherwise, it's just time.
As far as I can see. <_<

I take a little offense to that :/ I write frerard, not for the comments, but because I like the pairing...and hell I don't even get that many comments.

When I start a new story, I usually PM the people who read my other stories...

    That's how I get comments...

    I guess... -shrugs-

I agree with you. I like writing Frerard for the sake of it not for the comments. Even if a Frerard gets that many comments it doesn't mean it's a good one. It depends on the quality of the comments.
I'd rather get one informative comment that interacts with the story itself over five 'Up date soon' ones anyday.

Emily and the Oracle posted this thread asking about quantity so that's what I told her.

^I'm not offended but that's what I think.
The quality of the comments is what matters to me.
But the fact that people bother to is an independent issue itself. At least they were nice enough to ...

Still they should complete thier favor and leave something worth reading. More than 5 words I mean.

No, I much rather quality. But I don't get any comments at all, except for one dear friend who comments sometimes.

Besides, you cannot ask how to get good quality comments. That comes from the commenter him/herself. I figured if you ask how to get a lot of comments, there ought to be some good ones in there somewhere.

So, basically, to get good quality comments, you have to start -getting- comments, which is what I'm asking tips for here.

And please, no one get mad o.o; I did not mean to make any angry with me, and I'm sure Princess does not wish to get yelled at either.

Well, I'd say have people reading the story for starters.
Make a good summary that'll attract readers.
Advertise yourself properly. Like in The Not-So-Secret Secret [Fan]fiction Writers' Cult thread where you can swap reviews (comments) with other writers.

I actually prefer a good balance of quantity and quality.
A couple in depth comments paired with a bunch of brief comments would do me perfectly.

t_t I would rather have one amazing review instead of 10 shit ass reviews saying "Gr8 job! right more!"
Seriously. The person who gives me a review would make my year.

But what from I've seen from editing. Write a really shitty story about absolutely nothing and you'll get comments all over.

    Catchy title, Catchy summary. Patience.

Usually, I'll post a chapter, wait a certain amount of time, like a different time of day, copy posted chapter, delete it, then post it again to bump up the story...

or the pimping and reccing thred too.....

I know I will not read a story if I ever find the author state "What's the point in writing if no one reads?" I just won't. I refuse. Let alone comment it.

    Story/Review game.
The majority of people there tend to leave pretty decent reviews, but you have to leave one yourself.
If you get one person who absolutely loves your story, they tend to pimp it and tell everyone.
I know I've done that for stories and I've had people do it for me.

Write a good summary. Not something boring. And do not ignore that 'quick summary' blank. That's what people see if they're skimming stories. Make it eye catching.

I would recommend good grammar, formatting, etc., but unfortunately most people don't give a shit about that.

    Well...shamelessly self promote yourself.
    Always works.
But I haven't had the energy lately...

And if you're writing a fanfic, and you post in that band/whatever's thread a lot, saying you posted always gets a few reads. I do that with the Panibbians...

Write and Ferard and the whole of Mibba will be on your back.

It is the way for number of comments... Kayla made me write one and it got 105 comments rather than my standard 26!!
It keeps readers though, Fragments Of A Broken Mind isn't a Frerard but it has 13 subscribers which is unkown territory for me!!
So, comments and readers come with time :)
