    Honestly, write the following:
Ferard - It's the most popular thing on here. If you want comments write one of these. You could probably write a shitty one (on purpose OR by an accident) and you'll still get "OMG ur sucha good writer!!" comments.

Waycest - ^ basically the same thing as ferard

MCR fan fiction in general - Basically anything MCR related will get comments. Some, however, are just more popular than others.

I don't write any of this stuff because I don't like it. But OF does get comments. I mean, that's all I write, and a good amount of them get comments after every chapter (and I've recently stopped that whole "comments please?" stuff.

Yes, do pimp yourself, too. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, it just depends on who wants to read it or not (I think.) Well, look at my siggy thing. I put my latest stories there (or the ones that aren't that popular). Yes, I scream attention, so sue me :file: XD
Also, write anything that will go in the "romance" section. I have six stories that aren't "romance" but "horror" and only two I get/have gotten regular comments on.
Oh, and do put something in that "short summary" section of your story. Something like this usually catches (my, at least) attention:
*[Insert here if it's OF or FF]* A boy and a girl. A car crash. One death.
Something along the line of that XD
    Um, I hoped I helped. At least a little . . . :|
    EDIT:
    In my opinion:
Make an eye catching title, like "The Cookie and Godzilla" Well, not that exactly, but you get the point XDD
Write a summary. Most people won't read something unless they know what it's about.
Come up with something, well, original. No one wants to read the same thing over and over again. They had a fight. They had makeup sex. They have another fight and more makeup sex. They get married and live happily ever after. The end.
Make sure your description is good and makes sense.

Well, for comments you need to start getting readers, don't you?

So, what works for me, you should pimp like crazy ^^. Also, when you talk about any of your stories (For example, in the Story Titles thread) make sure you link them. Wherever you are, even if it's just in the WAYT.

ALWAYS use the short summary thing. If it's fanfiction with a pairing, make sure you put it in there and a little taste of what it is, like YaoiRox666 said. :]

and you don't have to write frerard or waycest. It can be like...Panic slash! Those have always got the most comments for me.

If you're doing a joint story, I'd advise to put it on the profile of the person who gets the most reads/comments/subscribers. Just a little tactic. And put the other writer(s) in the short summary.

I agree. I have five stories with ten stories. Four out of the five are Panic.

I have five stories with nine stars. Two are Panic, two are My Chem, one is non-fiction.

It doesn't always have to be My Chem. But people are more likely to read slash and less likely to read self-insertion. (At least, in my case. I get less reviews on my SIs.)

I get few comments . . . but that's okay. I don't want 20 pages of "omg i luv it plz update soon!" in a story thread. I have noticed that many stories that get a lot comments get useless comments. I would rather have one's that are more helpful or meaningful. I believe those kinds of comments count more.

especially when they're from Isa. :tehe:

I guess it also depends if you are a popular author. I mean. I am a good writer and get a good dose of comments for some of my stories, but there are some authors who get like 30000 in one hour because they have a lot of friends and shiz. One thing that always does annoy me is that two Frerards can be standing next to eachother, one is written pretty poorly, the other is written very well, and the poor one gets 30000 comments and 10 stars in two chapters, and the well-written one can barely hold down five.

It is really discouraging, especially for me who doesn't have a concecutive fanbase, it makes me feel like I am an inadequate writer or something.

I also notice that heterosexual MCR or band stories don't do as well either.

Try to figure out what time of day most people are online (the little bit at the bottom of the forums works) and post then.

More people will see it. 6PM my time is bad, but everyone's in different time zones, so I can't say when.

I try my hardest to do that. Weekends are the best. I try not to post unless 300 people or more are online. Generally 4-10 my time. [Central.]

Weekends usually are the best. But during times where there's vacation (summer vacation, winter break, spring break, President's day, etc.) are also a good ones, because nowadays we spend our Christmas on the Internet. That's how it is here, anyways, from what I've seen while sitting next to my sister while she's on MySpace...wow. :cheese:

That's true. Also, the same exact song titles (like "Our Lady Of Sorrows" ) aren't very interesting. They just bore me, because EVERBODY USES IT. Same goes with the immortality line from that song. Use a less common line, like the last line; "Just because my hands are on your throat!" or something.

There's a few stories on here that I've read that are actually alright, but they have no summary at all, and they don't mention if it's slash, femmeslash, het. or anything. So, I'm stuck having to find out the hard way what it really is...:shifty

Make-up sex? OMFG. Nobody ever uses the classic BREAK-UP sex anymore! What, nobody watched "John Tucker Must Die" or whatever? xD

Yes!!! I really hate titles that are overused. (I swear, if I had a dollar every time I saw a "Vampires Will Never Hurt You" or "I'm Not Okay" I'd be rich, XDD)
I feel for you. I hate having to read a story and not know what it is.
Do they really not do breakup sex anymore? o.O I thought I've read some . . . but maybe I was getting confused reading yaoi mangas. If so, my brain is more scrambbled than eggs ever will be XDDDD

Also, don't stick to updating at just one sort of time.
I update a lot at like 1am and that resulted in like 3 new reads from last time and two from the WAYT. If you update one time at say, 5pm and then another at say, 3am, then you'd get different people online so you get different + hopefully more reads. (:

Yeah, I've got a Frerard and, like, no one's reading it.

And I agree with what Sardonic Grin said on one of the pages (I don't remember which one and I forgot to hit quote and my computer's being stupid and won't let me go back and yeah) about the cruddy stories having 3000 comments at a shot just because someone's popular. Yet you come across some amazingly written story (not saying mine) and it's got maybe three comments and two stars or something, and in reality it's much better than the other one.

That's one thing I'll never understand at all. :file:

I think that about 5% or less of my readers review.
And it kind of saddens me.

I'd like someone to tell me even if they read it and didn't like it if that would get me comments.

    Actually...
The main idea for getting comments is:
    WRITE A FRERARD.

Or you could have some self respect and you know, not.
Then you just have to be patient.
Although I rather like this thread.
Someone might give some good ideas. ;)
I did'nt know whether to laugh, or to take offense at it for everyone who does write them.

I can offer no real help, just to ask friends or people you know on here to have a read of it and see how you go from there.

Emily and the Oracle posted this thread asking about quantity so that's what I told her.

    It's very true.
But there's no need to throw in the "self-respect" part.
