Hey dewds, I'm excited to tell you this. Wow

We were given the go ahead to tell authors to remove requests or commands for comments. I wasn't sure before, but Dujo has told us asking/begging for comments isn't allowed. :D So yeah, if we see it we'll be asking you to remove it.

idk, I'm v. happy about it.

It depends. If you're saying, "This story is inspired by Druscilla's Pretty Things." then it's allowed. (I use that example only because I did that a few days ago) But if it's saying something like, "Comments = <3" or "I need eight comments before I update." then no, don't do it.

    -shakes heeeaaaddddd-

Dujo said that any form of asking for comments, anywhere at all in the story [summary, chapters, title] are not allowed.

But, Carmen, your example [the addition to your summary] has nothing to do with asking for comments. :shifty

Seriously? Because a lot of my summaries ask for con-crit.

I think asking for reviews and comments are two different things. Reviews = con-crit and comments = <3/gain more stars

    Oh, come on!

Fine! maybe it's a bit annoying to see COMMENTS at the author's notes, but like you haven't done it! okay, so maybe you haven't, but comments are the authors feedback! they help him write when he's in writer's block, and they just make him feel better!
Can you blame him for asking one?
Where else should he write that?

Besides, if it's annoys you- just read the story itself and ignore the note at the end.. that's what I do :file:

I usually post something at the end like: Comments?
Which is my short and sweet way of requesting constructive criticism.

But I never post something as outrageous as OMGZ LEAVE ME A COMMENT AND I'LL GIVE U A COOKIE!!!!!!!

Would that include sort of asking for comments.
Like, in the author's notes for each chapter I'll say what I had problems with in the chapter or just what I was trying to do with it, and asking if I managed it successfully.
E.g. at the end of chapter 2 of The Vampician, I put:
    Hope you enjoyed it.
My biggest issue for this chapter was the flow. Do you think it flowed well, despite all the changes between characters points of view? I edited it so many times but I'm not sure if I've finally gotten it to flow or if I just got to know the words so well I knew what was coming next.

And, for future reference, if Anna becomes a Mary-Sue, I want someone to e-slap me.

Oh, and which would you say is easier to say aloud: AAAA, Quadruple A or Doube Double A?

    Thanks.

In "At Night" I said it was my first story since the split so comments were greatly appreciated.

I asked for comments before I came across reviews (Quizzilla convert, I never knew such a thing existed) but rarely ever and only so I knew what people thought... I won't do it any more though, if it's not allowed. It is entirely unnecessary, I rarely comment/review anyway, even if someone is asking for feedback so I should just stop...

Is this still relevant? I haven't heard anyone say that asking for concrit or comments wasn't allowed and this thread is pretty old. The last comment (before it was revived) was in 2007. Is this a rule?

You're allowed to beg for reviews.
But the thing you typed is the best way to do it.

So in the author's note we're not allowed to say "comments/feedback would be appreciated"? That's kind of mean, I mean, it's annoying if the writer does it for every chapter but every now and then to write it... So it's really not allowed?

I sure hope so because I always put that in the a/n.

    It's allowed.
This thread is more for people to discuss their opinions on begging for reviews or holding chapters/updates ransom until you get ___ comments.

Yeah, me too, which is why I'm so worried about that.

'Cause technically, it's not really asking for comments, is it?

I'm pretty sure it's okay to ask/beg for comments or reviews in the author's note, as long you're not being immature about it. For instance: "You guys are jerks, you need to start freaking commenting or I won't update for a month," obviously wouldn't be okay (and I've come across many stories with those types of author's notes). In the AN of all my one-shots, I usually just say, "please give me your honest opinions" or "comment if you want to." Something along those lines. I would imagine that'd be allowed, since the point is to receive some kind of feedback.

I think it's okay to ask for comments as long as it's asked in a simple way, and not over-the-top and ridiculous. For those that don't like the idea at all but still want people to comment, maybe what they can do is ask for comments in the first chpter and leave it at that. Something like:

I'd love to read any feedback you have, for any chapter I post. The more, the merrier. I honestly want to improve as a writer.

I just posted that myself on my own :3

Question though: Is it annoying to have "Comments?" posted at the end of every chapter? No other words; just that one with the question mark.
