    Title:Consider Me Destroyed

    Excerpt (so far):
"...I do still miss Nick. Is he really okay?" No.
    "Yes."
"Nothings happened that I should know about?" Just that he's doing drugs and making a total wreck of his life.
    "Nope."
"He's not even done anything remotely bad or upsetting since we broke up?" What like beating up his girlfriend because she mentioned your name or almost destroying all the material for our new record because you'd helped to write one of the songs?
"Nope." I took her hands onto my lap and held them. "Really, Nick is totally fine Miley - stop worrying about him, he's okay." She breathed out a heavy sigh and nodded gratefully. Apparently she bought it.

Well, I just started posting my Nano story and if there's not a lot of demand I'm not going to post a chapter every day. So I made it once a week or after three "real" comments, whichever comes first.

This way, if there is demand, I'll update quicker, and if there's not, there's still a schedule for updating.

I don't think I have ever asked or even demanded comments using author notes. I find it extremely rude to do such a thing. However, I have used them to tell the readers I will update soon or put some kind of question down at the bottom. Like, "I wonder what will happen next?". Something to that effect. It isn't an eyesore and I generally do that because I don't even know what will happen next. Sad I know, but I can't write stories based on pre-written material. oO

Any way.. I wonder if it would be okay to put something like, "Please comment if you deem this story worthy." in your summary? You know, after the summary. Not before. Would you guys find something like that annoying and not even bother with the story?

I don't mind the authors notes I don't like the ones like everyone else where it's all PLZ COMMENT OR ELSE I WON'T UPDATE
and stuff like that, I don't like those.
I don't see whats wrong with other authors notes where they simply say "Comments are appreciated."
I would comment to the second and not to the first.

I always put "comments are love" in the first comment of my story. But I just don't see the point of saying "comment if you want to" because if they want to they will, without you saying it.

I hate it when you read a really great story and then on the bottom, it says that they won't update until they get an outrageous number, like eight comments on the chapter.

I don't usually have anything in my author's note, not for any particular reason, I just don't put anything there. Unless I was really unsure about a piece, then il ask for some feedback so I can make it better or just to see what people thought.

I usually say thanks for the comments or comments are love at the bottom of my stories. No update until I get _____ more comments is so damn tacky.

In an old story of mine, I've seen myself say I wouldn't update until however many comments but I never stuck to it, I always got too excited about the next chapter.
And like a lot of other people I normally just say comments are appreciated and thank them for the ones I've got.

A couple of time I even respond to a few of the comments and I found that got people to comment more and give worthwhile comments.

After reading this thread I feel like a bitch for always putting an author's note...but it's not like I ask for comments every time.
I actually apologize to my readers every author's note because it always takes me so long to get a chapter up...sigh.

I don't ask for comments, I just put, "Don't be a silent reader :)" at the end.
I also respond to every story comment I get to help encourage more comments

I did my first author's note for Confusion is the Strongest Emotion on chapter 5 (of 9).

I have a lot of subscribers and not a lot of comments. I would really appreciate just a little comment about what you liked. Thank you.

When I did this, I actually started getting more comments, so I just tried it out on Learning to Fall. Let's see if it works again.

If it's a chaptered fic, I tend to post something about the story, and then I'll apologise for not updating because that generally happens, I'll post outfit links in here, maybe a link to another story and ask people to let me know what they think. Or to subscribe or reccomend so at least I know how people feel.

I don't mind if the just put 'comment?'
But if they are like begging that's a bit, over the top.

I mean I myself usually put 'thoughts? or comments?'

But I don't think it's wrong to ask for feedback by no means, just don't be begging.

I think simply asking for feedback on their story isn't bad. But holding a story hostage is just a little over the top, in my opinion.

I usually always comment unless the author is holding the story hostage until it gets x number of comments. That really irks me for some reason.

i don't mind people throwing out 'please leave feedback!' or 'comment and subscribe if you're enjoying this!', but it's when people get really aggressive and demanding about it or hold their stories hostage that i either don't read or stop reading. i understand wanting comments, but writing solely based on the number of comments or threatening your readers isn't the way to go about it. write for yourself and you won't have to demand comments from people.
