I did karate for three and a half years and I'd be getting my blackbelt in a week, but I quit. I learned enough of how to defend myself.

I do Taekwondo and am a blue belt.
I missed out on a couple of gradings because of illness etc so I'm a little behind on my belts.
I'm hoping to get my next one soon, as long as I don't break any bones before hand.

I am a 1st dan black belt in taekwondo.. and still competing.

I am technically a 3rd kyu brown belt in Judo.. and still competing.

I also took penjak silat (indonesian martial art), arnis(Philippine martial art) (if any of you knows that, hopefully)

Am a brown belt and taking my brown belt and one stripe grading in June.

The hardest part for me wasn't learning the actual moves, it was learning the Japanese terms for them :tehe:

i've been doing tae kwon do for 11 months. i'm testing for my green belt tomorrow. i love martial arts so much. for me, it's more of a way of life than a sport. it's helped me to become more confident and it's shaped who i've become. and, not to brag but, my roundhouse kicks ass. : )

I had to quit karate half way through last year when I broke my knee and majorly fucked all the ligaments and cartilage around it. I was 3 days away from getting my black belt. Sad

I had been doing it 6 times a week for 8 years, and also taught the kids class :tehe:

I also won the U14 girls championships here twice, and then came 3rd in the U16. My kata team came 2nd in the women's Opens, and my kumite team came 2nd. I was meant to be going to the world cup, but my parents said no. Sad

I don't know whether I'm going to go back to it after surgery or not. It will be hard because I'm so unfit now and put on shitloads of weight, and I have to be really careful of my leg, because it dislocates really easy.

i'm sorry about your knee. i think you should go back. do some physical therapy to make it stronger. sure, your knee might not ever be back to the way it was before, but it'll be a little better.
go back to karate to lose the weight. i'm overweight and i do tae kwon do. there's no law that says you can't do it cause you're not skinny. start doing some other exercises too so you can get back in shape. you can lose the weight, you just have to be motivated.
congrats on all your awards, too. : )

i passed my test! i'm getting my green belt tonight at the belt ceremony.

I take karate as a yellow belt.... :shifty

Though I wanted to take something other than karate, tae kwon do, mainly the ones that you know very well that a lot of people have heard of. Idk, I just wanted to have something that's very unique to me, at least for where I live.

Eeee! Taekwon Do! I am almost a black belt!

I love my sexy pyjamas :D
Even if it is disrespectful to call my Do Bok pyjamas...
My brother and aunt are black belts and my uncle is like... a 4th degree instructor... so it runs in the family.

3rd kyu brown belt in judo...that's odd that I've never heard of that before, especially since I've been doing Judo for ten years and have my black belt. Unless...are you from one of those countries that goes white->brown->black?

I just started Aikido in January, and I love it! Except that it's at 7:30 in the morning. Tant pis pour moi.

I did Karate for three years.
It was really fun. I got injured loads though, being accident prone. I broke my toe once. :cheese:
I unforunately had to give it up so I could have clarinet lessons. Sad

It's fun but I hate pattern that's why I'm keen on joining the competition team (No pattern, just fight and work outs!)

I'm a blue belt in tae kwon do. I used to train with a family friend who had a small school, but in June 2008 - about a year after I started - he had a heart attack. He's okay, but he stopped teaching in August. I didn't go back to tae kwon do for a long time because I was convinced that I didn't want to be anyone's black belt unless I could be his. Then I realized that I could be my own black belt, and there were better teachers out there. I started at his old instructor's school back in January and I love it. I've made friends, I'm so much happier, and I'm in much better shape. I go four nights a week and I couldn't dream of what it would be like if I hadn't gone back. I train with Master Philip Ameris, a student of Grandmaster Hee Il Cho of AIMAA. Maybe you've heard of us?
