I saw the movie, but I've always wanted to read the book.
It's on my list of things to do before I die :con:

If Golding didn't take 3 pages to describe a tree-branch I would of enjoyed reading it more. I wrote a mean LOTF essay for IG though.

    /useless bit of information

We had to read this book for English. I found Golding's description fantastic and the idea was great...but something didn't really gell. It was just too weird. I mean, I like weird books. But this was...I don't know, but I really didn't like it.

On the plus side, the two films (sixties one and the modern one) are both hilarious! We watched both of them in English and we couldn't stop laughing.

I loved reading this book. It had a deep meaning and was wonderful to get lost in.
I really wish Piggy hadn't died becaused he was the only character I liked.

My frined told me that it was super good, so I decided I'd buy it, but I don't know if I will like it. I'm not sure. WHat is the complete overview?

I had to read it for my English class, I wasn't a fan of it. Maybe because it's not my favorite genre of book. It was okay, but not something I would want to read again. Alothough, Piggy was my favorite character, too bad he died Cry

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but I can't say I enjoyed reading it.
It was too disturbing and had this strange, offsetting vibe about it.
I kind of want to see the movie now, though.

I've honestly just read LOTF this quarter for my English Class. Though I must say, that it's a little bit disturbing and all that. At first, I wasn't too fond of it and even hated it at some point but when I read it once more, I completely fell in love with the book. (I really want to watch the movies! *_*)

This book is filled with rich symbols and all. But what I really liked about the book was the storyline, regardless of the symbols. :) I loved the flow.

Is there anyone here that loves Jack as much as I do? If there was any real human there, I believe that it was him. :D I also liked Simon and Samneric. I just found them cute but not as much as Jack.

I had to read it last year, and it's not my favourite for reasons that I couldn't get absorbed into the writing. I dozed off slightly while reading it and ended up not understanding some parts that the teacher brought up in lectures and tests. Like one question was, "What falls from the sky?"

And I couldn't figure out the answer because I was looking for something I remembered from reading the chapter, and thought the most likely out of the choices would be something like "a bird." I was really confused when I found out the answer was "A dead parachutist" because I didn't recall that. I had to go back and re-read the chapter and pay closer attention to what I was reading.

It's just one of those books you need to read carefully, though I didn't exactly dislike the book. I liked the irony in it, once I understood it.

    OH. MY. GOODNESS.

This was my summer reading assignment this year, and I just finished it a few days ago. I came looking for this topic, actually. This book definitely creeped me out several times. The first being when Jack and his hunters are chanting, and they have their faces painted and they're singing about killing the pig.

It was horrifying to think that this might actually happen, and that if people are left on their own without society, that they could become savages. When I read about how they killed Simon, how they were crazed and didn't recognize him, it shocked me.

On the other hand, looking at it as a book, I liked the author's writing style. The way he described things was vivid (even though I could have lived without some of the imagery.)

This won't be a book I pick up for recreational reading, though.

I read this book last year for English class, and I think I was the only one in that class who actually enjoyed it. I rented the movie and everything. It's just so good! Golding does a wonderful job narrating, and the message behind the story is really haunting and it sticks with you...I just can't get enough.

^ Which one did you watch? I watched the 1990 version (well, about an hour while waiting for another show) and I didn't like it at all. I thought I could jump in because I really liked the book and know what was going on. Well, I kind of did, but I had no clue - other than Piggy - who the characters were. They changed the looks too much.

This is a beautifully written book. I think a lot of the enjoyment I got out of it was from my English teacher, because he explained it so well, and it was obvious that he enjoyed it.
If you've read it before, read it again. It gets better every time.
I think the thing I liked best about it was definitely the microcosm effect. The ways their lives worked on that little island was a miniature world, and it was amazingly written.
I couldn't stand the movie, because it lost so much of the unsaid things. In the scene where the boy who's not piggy dies, it's so much less emotional and confused than it is in the book. There are a lot of other examples, but converting it into film killed it, I think.

That's the same one I saw. I thought it was okay; mostly I liked the background music. :tehe: But yeah, I enjoyed it.

I've been wanting to read this book but they don't have a copy at any of the libraries in my city. They only have like books for like notes about it or something. It sucks though because I really want to read it.
