Quirky pairings that make some sort of sense [if it involves sex].

Humor and intelligence written well together always hooked me in.

That and realistic dialog, where you sit there and actually think, 'That's exactly what i would say.'

    Cute and funny moments.

When the characters have personalities, and it's not just like, a character following a plot, you know? Tie in their fave music, food, clothes, little habits that don't just die after the first few chapters, etc.

When nothing runs smoothly. If the characters don't get offended, hurt, embarrassed, etc, then I don't like the story. If all that happens, then I love it.

I love description, and a lot of it, but don't over-do it. I like to be able to see everything clearly just like it's a movie. Like, don't just explain the main place, describe something that catches the character's eye as they're, I duno, on the way to the bathroom or something.

I love first person point of view. I'll read other, yes, but that's my fave. ^_^

Good dialog/conversations. I really don't mind the details for I get bored when the details are too long. :tehe:

A story that I don't entirely understand and know I don't understand and can't possibly understand is just amazing to me.

I love stories where you can tell that the writer put love into it. Where they love every word of their story, where their soul is poured into. You can tell there's more to the words than just the words, but it's not possible to put your finger on the more.

I love it when you can tell the author of a story without looking at who wrote it. I love authors that develop their own style.
I also like sincere and honest stories.

I also love it when the authors actually know a few things about literary theory, it shows you know.

It just shows when it's sheer emotion camouflaged by a handful of beautiful words, and I LOVE it.

People usually seem to actually write better about things they feel strongly about, & I think it's evident.

When the author uses correct grammar/spelling. When you think about it, a lot of the really popular stories don't and it just irritates me. :cheese:

Real Sex scenes not the kind where hair doesn't move.
    Sad endings
Good descriptions the kind that make you feel like you're there
slash that has a plot, and borderline
Things people are afraid to talk about or EVEN mention like; abortion
    Poetry that is actually good
    Layout that fits the story
and Title's that tell you what it's about but not too much info.
But to sum it all up
    Real life things.

I like stories that start in the middle of something.
    Not "In the beginning blahblahblah"
But where it's in the middle of something...and then sometimes I like it where it goes back and explains, but most of the time I just like it starting in the middle.

When someone actually knows what they're talking about. They don't have to have experienced it, just know what they're saying. Like drug habits and things where the person just said "I'm over it." and stopped, are annoying.

Stories without happy endings. But not just because someone dies or they break up. I like stories that, when the ending is spoken in the most basic terms, should be happy endings. But the things that have happened previously in the story stop that from happening. Like, they get together but it's not happy. Or he stops seeing the abuse prick, but it's not happy. Or he gets the help he needs, but it's not happy.

Because that makes a story real to me.

I also like stories that hurt to read because they're too real.

It takes talent to pull it off, but I'm a sucker for flashbacks. :XD

I love ones that make me not just tear up or cry a bit, but really sob my heart out, and make me teary when I think about it later on.

-When there's detail - To me, it just seems so much better, if there's detail, description.

-When, as Dru said, it hurts to read, because they're too real. - It's so hard to find.

-When a story is in present tense. - I dunno, it just seems more real to me. I mean, I could read a story past tense, and it could be the best story I've ever read, but, in present tense, it seems way more realistic.

-When the sex scenes aren't so graphic. - It's not going to bother me if they're not, I just don't read that specific chapter, but it's nice when they're not. :cute:

-Anything that can make me cry. - Because, sometimes, you just need it.

    AU's! I loveee au's. Be creative guys!

I also love really poetic stories that just suck you in a leave you slightly confused afterwards. I normally have to re read them five times to get them, but I love them.

    stories with a theme.

not just OMG THEY FELL IN LOVE AND SEXED EACH OTHER AND THEN LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER IT WAS SOOOOO BEAUTIFUL

i'd like to see some why and how, and underlying statements. like religious allusions, and realistic reactions. i cannot stress enough how important it is to be smart about your characters reaction to something major. like . . . coming out, admitting to a drug problem, revealing a dark secret. not everything is OMG YOU'RE GAY SO AM I HOW DELIGHTFUL, which i have seen before. that, although, can be realistic in a more toned down way. say they truly don't care what their friend's sexuality is, and have no problem at all with it.
