Featuring members of Avenged Sevenfold and Ballistico, this is some manic metal. Acrobatic drums, guitar, and vocals, with lyrics describing vampires and morbidly twisted plots.
"Pinkly Smooth was formed in the summer of 2001, in Huntington Beach, CA and in 2002, they recorded the legendary metal album, "Unfortunate Snort," on Bucktan records. While the lead guitarist and drummer of AVENGED SEVENFOLD, (Synyster Gates & The Reverend), and the lead singer and drummer of BALLISTICO (Buck Silverspur & D-Rock), are on break from touring with their bands, rather than lounging by a hotel pool with a bottle of Old Grand Dad Whiskey, they transform into the mentally deranged... PINKLY SMOOTH! There are many hints that PS's inspiration springs from bands like; Queen, (with their opera-atic vocal harmonies), Meshuggah, (with counter time drumming and guitar riffs), and Danny Elfman, (with Klezmer-like Piano parts from Pee Wee's big adventure)."
As a devoted listener of Avenged Sevenfold, it wasn't long before I heard about the sideband drummer The Reverend Tholomew Plague and guitarist Synyster Gates were working together in. Personally, I'm mad into Syn's playing style, so I picked up "Unfortunate Snort" as soon as I could. The curiosity was killing me.
The result was so different and unexpected, this immediately became one of my favorite bands ever. With parts so wild and twisted, they're laugh-out-loud funny, I was shocked no one else loved them to death. Its so great to hear a band have some fucking fun with what they're doing, something I think a lot of artists have forgotten to do. There's a lot of metal in Pinkly.... I think its inevitable, considering the composers' main bands, but its still so fucking awesome to hear these four incredible musicians, literally the best musicians of this generation, group together and play some straight up crazy shit.
You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll growl, you'll sing, but most of all-- you'll dance, and please don't forget to thank me once you've had a taste of the true meaning of 'alternative'.
