And we have the word of who? The men who say they would rape? Not necessarily a trustworthy word if he would rape without a prostitute...

Clearly he wouldn't be trustworthy to the women he would rape, so why is he trustworthy in this situation? For all we know, he's saying that shit to a prostitute for a deal or to get treated better. He could be a manipulative sociopath who rapes three women on the way home for all we know. (I mean, how do we know? Do the prostitutes follow him home to make sure?)

It also kind of sounds like he would rape anyone who wouldn't say yes. If a prostitute says yes, why rape her? If a woman says no... that's a different story, eh? (Woman in the last sentence could also mean prostitute, for the record.)

Actually yes. He might be an honest man that can't hold himself (and even has a mental problem - we wouldn't know) and he thinks that he is very thankful he get to sleep with prostitutes instead of turning to a rapist.

Just because we don't like the truth, we don't have to say a person is lying.

I get your point, it doesn't mean that he is honest but the fact is that we don't know. He may be lying, he may be honest. It's a 50/50 situation.

Prostitutes don't say no to customers, its their job. And if the one who lets the prostitutes work at his shop is right, then the prostitutes don't have to deal with rape - just like in the city I live in, Athens, Greece. All they have to do is yell and the boss kicks the customer out. He doesn't care if he will lose a customer. It's not always like that but that's how it goes to the good shops. If you get what I mean.

The truth is that rape is about power and control, not sex.

I strongly disagree. And I'm assuming by people, you mean the rapists?

Yes, they are still people, human beings.
You don't have to agree, each of us has their own thinking and beliefs. I get where you're coming from, so no worries there.

Yes, but I didn't form my opinions out of thin air. They are based on research into psychology and rape and rapists. We can all have our own opinions, but if they fly in the face of accepted scientific opinion, they aren't valid in a court of law and not really valid in general, in my humble opinion.

Well, psychology doesn't state that rapists aren't humans and of course I'm not talking out of thin air, otherwise there would be no point in saying anything.

I was clarifying the "humans" statement because I wasn't sure if you were talking about rapists or both rapists and rape victims. The opinions I didn't form out of thin air were about rape being about power and control, not sex. I think there was some confusion there, so I'm just clearing up.

I'm just saying that no matter how a person turns out to be (rapists, killers, prostitutes) they are still human beings, people. Rape isn't always about power and control, sometimes it's sex.

I haven't had time to read through every post obviously but I saw a post that made a really great point:

    Respect sex workers
Do not support the porn industry.

I don't believe prostitution should be legal at all. Men (or women) are literally paying someone else to have sex with them. The customers don't care about prostitutes as people, they don't care who they are, all they care about is getting their sexual pleasure. That's so emotionally, mentally and physically draining on a person, whether you're doing it for forced or not.

I know that making prostitution illegal won't solve every problem but it will solve some.

Younger people are getting into this career and it's not a healthy career to have because you get hurt. There's so many deaths and abuse cases because they were prostitutes. They're near misses and then they actually are her raped by someone they didn't agree to have sue with and the cops don't believe them because there prostitutes.

    It should be illegal period.

What information makes you believe that being paid to have sex is mentally and emotionally draining?

I agree with Dru. Is it only draining in your opinion? I don't see the problem if this is two people partaking in a consensual form of sex.

"There's so many deaths and abuse cases because they were prostitutes."
There are some aspects you're misinformed about. Making/keeping it illegal isn't going to change anything about that at all because people will still partake in prostitution (that's pretty much the case in every single country where it's illegal). In fact, stuff like this happens because it's illegal in the first place. If prostitution was regulated, they would have much safer working environments, and they could go to the police without fearing persecution for their occupation.

I would say the cops don't believe rape charges because they are misogynistic. It's not like cops take rape victims seriously when thy aren't hookers all the time either. That is a justice system issue not limited to sex workers.

Prostitution should be legal. No reason it shouldn't.

It is not immoral, because morals are subjective, not objective.
