It only gets you high for so long and then you need something else.
Not true. A person I know has been doing it for a very, very, very, very long time and has never tried another drug.
    Yet.

I also know someone who did just pot for 25-30 (so they say) years before he started doing something else.

"researchers from a policy-researching think tank suggest in the British medical journal Addiction that teens likely to experiment with drugs such as cocaine, heroin, and hallucinogens would do so regardless of whether or not they use marijuana first."
    -Study

"Marijuana is not a "gateway" drug that predicts or eventually leads to substance abuse, suggests a 12-year University of Pittsburgh study. The study, which found that young men who chose to initiate their drug use with marijuana were no more likely to go on to abuse drugs or alcohol than those who smoked or drank first, calls into question the long-held belief that has shaped prevention efforts and governmental policy for six decades."

In Social we did mock government. I was the group leader, or "Prime Minister". Though I'm not necessarily for it, our grouped tried to pass the bill of legalization of marijuana.

In our group, we said it could be sold at a place such as a pharmacy.
I think this could be a benefit because people are going to buy it anyway; I think it makes more sense for us to control where the money is going to as opposed to it going to gangs.

There's people who sell prescription meds in gangs. The money will still go to gangs and drug dealers no matter what you do. It's extremely easy to abuse and get over the counter meds. Just like it's extremely easy to get alcohol when you're underage.

    That may be true.
I know that if I were going to buy marijuana I would much rather buy it over the counter than from a gang or a drug dealer.
They piss and shit in that stuff.
Why would you want to smoke it?

I know drug dealers and they don't do that lol. Anyway. Cigarrettes are sold in stores and there's all kinds of chemicals in them. I don't know why anyone would want to smoke that.

Plus, if it was over the counter, you'd probably need a doctors note and I can guarantee that would be difficult to get considering most pain meds are difficult to get.

If it is legal like alcohol you wouldn't need a doctors note. You would just need to be of legal age.

    Most drugs come from gangs.
These gangs take great pleasure in knowing kids and such are going to use their drugs. And yes, they do spit and piss in it.

I don't know why anybody would want to smoke cigarrettes or marijuana either, but they do.

It depends. Narcotics are legal, you don't need to be a certain age but you do need a prescription for them. I know because my mom has some kind of drug for her back and I'm on some pretty heavy shit for my leg. I avoid taking them because I don't like being stoned, my mom's the same way.

Most drug dealers I know, grow their own stuff or get it from someone who grows their own stuff.

I think that it should be legal. I mean Riddilin(sp?) and stuff like that are legal, but people still use them to get high. Smoking pot isn't as bad as snorting crushed up pills.

that's just stupid. you're like literally giving people a gun in their hands to kill themselves. erm... why would you do that? there is no USE of marijuana. no medical use, no legal use, NOTHING. so why should it be around? influencing our kids? the effects of marijuana are serious. you don't need that kind of shit around.
Guns are legal where I live as well. Putting a gun to someone's head is really giving them alcohol and giving them the keys to the car. Alcohol really has no medical use in the form of ethanol. There is a medical use to marijuana. It is used to calm cancer patients who are under chemo and to increase their appetite. It is also used to helpt the symptoms of glaucoma. It's proven aid to nausea as well. All of these things are medically proven. Studies have also shown it helps degenerative disease. My mother was a doctor and she perscribed marijuana to people undergoing chemotherapy. She said it really did work and also observed it's effects on glaucoma patients. It DOES have a medical use even though can be abused as a drug.

People should have the choice of how to live their lives.

Marijuana ISN'T illegal in the US for that reason however. The exact reason it is illegal because a while ago people starting coming from Mexico and other countries where it was legal and a part of their culture. Our government didn't really want those people here so they banned marijuana in hopes that it would drive them out. Their efforts failed however and created an underground trafficking of the substance.

What lead you to that conclusion? Smoking is legal, there is heavy interest in it. Drinking is legal, there is heavy interest in it.

Off topic, I already reported one of your posts. Be sure and read the board rules when it comes to posting.

Secondly, lots of people smoke cigarettes and drink alcohol. If marijuana were made legal, I'm sure all the people smoking it now would continue and others would start.

I can understand why people think it should be legal. I used to be one of those people. I watched a friend destroy herself because she did it. She lost herself in it, and although she should have been more responsible, had it been legal, it would have happened earlier. It's like telling kids it's okay to do it. It's not okay when you abuse it. I can't sit around and watch anyone else do that. I don't want to see another hopeless, lost, tragedy because of marijuana. Therefore, I am completely against the legalization of it.

If you abuse any drug you can get totally fucked.
There are alcoholics and people who die from cigarette smoke. That doesn't mean they should be illegal.
I'm not saying legalize abuse of marijuana.
    There's a difference.
It comes down to personal responsibility.

^I agree. People should be responsible. But by making it legal at all would be making another opening to it. I just would rather not have any more toxic substances legal. I wish cigarettes were illegal... but that's a completely different subject.

You can legally purchase marihuana at almost every corner of the street where I live, it's as common as bread, figuratively speaking.
And to be honest, I don't have a problem with that. It all comes down to your own responsibility in the end.
I think the age in Holland for legal pod-usage is set at 18.
I wouldn't say many Dutch kids use that much pod, though. The fucked up people in the coffeeshops are mostly foreign people that gladly take advantage of the Dutch law-system, I don't know anyone who would sit in the coffeeshop to get stoned, they just use it in private places most of the time.

When it comes down to whether legalising stuff would ultimately lead to a bigger risk of abuse, well, you can get any other kind of drug at every corner of the street, too, so it doesn't tell me much. If you really want it, you can get it anyway.

Believe me, I know alot of people who smoke pod every once in a while, but I only know two people who are truly addicted to it.

For me personally; it doesn't make sense how someone can get addicted to "just" weed.. [yeah it's that common.]

People are still going to use it, wether its illegal or not. I think less teens and young adults will use it, because we kind of just want to rebel.

I think we should legalize it, because too many people are getting aressted for selling LEAFS, bascically.
