Wicca

I have always just been told that being baptized relieves you of all your impurities and bad things you have ever done in life. And sort of guarantees you a spot in heaven when you die because it sort of puts like a protection on you.

I would suggest not to be cautious of it or fearful that it conflicts just see it more as a cleansing ritual that will relieve you of negative energies.
It's a Christian ritual though. There are plenty of Wiccan things she could do to cleanse herself.
In truth it is a Christain ritual but Water is an Element of cleansing. In Wicca we bless each other during ritual with water mixed with salt to cleanse negativity away from our bodies. The person in question here shouldn't worry about it being a conflict, in all honesty Baptizism is a side branch of a Pagan/Wiccan blessing. It holds the same purpose, just viewed diffrently by a diffrent faith. The only thing that really matters is what this person feels is right in his/her heart.

I disagree. If you have no interest in being a Christian, you shouldn't be baptised into Christianity. Otherwise what really is the point of having rituals specific to different religions? What's in your heart is important, but what you do and say has power as well.

Still in the end it boils down to an individual perspective you see it as an intrance to a seprate religion I see it as a cleansing. And Wicca encircles diffrent aspecs of religion just as all religion has some derived aspecs of paganism because it came 1st. And I don't really see the harm in it it's not like it's a negative ritual that's binding her soul or anything it's a purification should it really be seen in a negative light regardless where it came from? If she doesn believe in the religion then she could go through the ritual and belive it to all be nonsence and some guy splashing a bit of water on her head.

  • I personally would see being cleansed and purified by a theology I didn't agree with as at the very least hypocritical.

If people are Wiccan and desperately want to be baptized into Christianity, I won't complain. I just won't understand. To me rituals are precious, important things. They don't have to be to everyone of course, but that's how I feel.

True. But there are lots of things the two religions share so they aren't totally contradicting is all I'm saying, like it could be seen as bad if you want but it's not totally heinous or anything. Also, if Wicca can encompass aspects of other religions why not a single aspect of Christianity?

(On another note: I like your siggy =]. Did you just put that or is it from the plain white Ts song?)

  • I get what you mean, I'm just finding I have this gigantic kind of spiritual block when it comes to the idea of being baptised when you're not Christian. I agree, it's not totally heinous, and whatever God/dess you believe in will probably understand.

It still seems odd to me. Sort of squicky.

(Thank you ^^ Yeah, it's from the Plain White T's song =P I'm not actually a massive fan of theirs, but I really like that song. It cheers me up.)

  • Hi its me again! I just wanted to say that I totally get where your coming from, but you have to remember that not all families are open minded and so some people have to hide their belief and go throught with being baptized. There again it only matters what the person truely believes to be their own spiritual truth.

  • I am kind of really late to this forum... Rolling Eyes

I have my own story to tell. Dance

I had a rough childhood. As a child, I attended Christian church. I knew at the age of ten, that Christianity was wrong for me. God was wrong for me. I went searching for something more. And I found it. For a long time, I thought I was Atheist, around the age of fifteen, I learned about Paganism and Wicca, and realized that, that was where I belonged. I understood and found the true meaning of everything. Though, sadly, I lost my ways and depression hit me hard. And I'm still depresed, but I have plans to change that. I will find my ways once again. Clap

  • I'm not a Wicca, I suppose I'm an eclectic pagan, but I mostly follow Norse and Celtic ideals. I highly respect Wiccas, but it isn't for me.

  • I've been a witch, whether I actually vocalized it or not, for as long as i can remember. My mom used to practice but since she got remarried she stopped, her new husband wasn't comfortable with it, and although I don't agree that you should let someone control your beliefs like that I have continued to practice.
However I'm not nearly as open about it as I used to be. In 7th grade I did a project about major world religions and in my paper I mentioned that I myself was a Wiccan. After that I got several threatening notes in my locker and someone even went as far as writing 'Witch' across the door of my locker.
My friends however are very open and understanding and know all about Wicca and Paganism. One of my closest friends will even do stress releaving spells and such with me. I'd really like to help other people, and people who are new to the Craft understand a little bit better what we're really all about,
Feel free to message me, I don't bite.

Not to be mean in anyway, but if someone wrote 'Witch' across my locker I wouldn't mind Mr. Green

  • It's not so much that I minded being called a witch, it was the reason they did it that upset me. They didn't understand and just filed me away under they typical stereotype.

  • yea I used to get that all the time. I have a few family members who think I'm going through a phase or that I'm going to hell, but whatever. I still know whats right in my in my heart.

  • A lot of my family doesn't know about it. My grandparents are very devout Christians from a very small town in the mountains in Tennessee and I'm pretty sure some people in that community still condone lynching. I'm not kidding

You have to remeber that in the religon we can't change what people think, we can only tell them about it (I know it sucks but its something very good to stick with) and people like that, arnt worth you're time
