Whenever you mention your story, always have a link ready :tehe:

It's what I'm doing, it's doing pretty swell.

Putting links to your stories whenever you can.
Like if you post in the Story Title thread, etc.

I have two links in my sig currently. :con: [/spam]

I wrote a guide on this once.
Most of the stuff is common sense. But it has helped some people.

I cowrite and hang around with story comment whores.

Do it the easy way, kids, write a story with Isa or Jenni.

Of course, Jenni's better. She actually updates. Isa? No. The last chapter? Uh huh. FEBRUARY

    But she's a good whore.

Basically, I pimp my story whenever I can. I also try to pour my heart and soul into it, whereas before, I just half-assed it.

I would recommend that you check out the Pimping and Reccing thread. Also, include as many tags as possible, but only if they work with the story (i.e., for a Waycest, put "incest," "relative," "sibling," "waycest," etc). And be sure that you mention your updates in a journal, but don't make a whole journal just about an update. If you make a journal about your day, be sure to put, "I updated my story today," and put in a link.

All I can say is, link your story constantly. (I find the siggy the best way.)
And comment on everything and anything. Sometimes it helps :D

I'm not really sure how mibba works, but with fanfiction.net, if you write just straight smut for a really popular fandom, post it at "prime time", and make it really original and good, you will get readership.

    ...

    While we're on the subject...

(Death Note, Howl's Moving Castle, Fight Club, Golden Compass smut)!

I kept a 'smut button' in my siggy for a while, too, which lead to a story which I'm writing at the moment, I Wanna Fuck You Like an Animal, which is basically about secks. [/shameless whoring.] :shifty
And that proved to be pretty successful, but it just didn't fit with my sig now.
    Stealing that idea Shifty

I was going to ask my readers how they came across my story and if possible use the same method to get more in. But that wont work if they all stumbled on it by accident XD

If people are already reading your story, then they obviously like reading it so I'm sure they wont mind if you ask them to tell their friends to check it out too, if they haven't already.

You could also get a group of friends and organise to whore each others stories on authors notes and summaries, or if that is not allowed on profile pages :) so its kinda like you share your readers.

I make friends with people who like the band that I'm writing about. (I mostly write band fiction) and I occasionally post on the Pimping and Reccing thread. Also, I comment on quite a few stories and sometimes the other person comments back.

I post my favorite stories in a small section on my profile.
Maybe "favorites" is the wrong word.
Stories that touched me and that I think about after I'm done reading.
There's eight right now, well, technically seven.
One of the links is dead because the author got banned, but I'm not taking it down.

I read other writers' stuff, and when it comes to a conversation about writing, they usually go like "I'll check your stuff out sometime".
Sometimes it takes them a good while before they get to it, but the point is that they read. Wow

Once someone pimped my story in her sig. She randomly pm'ed me about it afterward. I was pretty estatic that someone would actually do that for me. :tehe:

I try to post in the Pimping and reccing thread when I update, it helps :)
It takes time too. With my first epic story I didn't get many comments for a while, then all of a sudden it took off. And then when I finished that one, the old readers commented my new one, which gets the ball rolling. It takes time though.

But yes, the main point is write good stuff, and eventually it'll catch on :)

i name my stories ludicrous things that relate to the story, and really, people just caught on. i'm amazed i hit 10 stars...
not to mention a steady publish rate makes the readers more interested and edgy (:

a link in your siggy is good too!

What I did was write something funny yet interesting in the short summary.
I put something like "Frerard. Read me. Go on. You know you want to. You love Frerard really."
    It really did help!

My whole theme is actually based off of my upcoming story. >.> Once it's posted I'm gonna put a link in my signature.
    So. Links in signatures work.
And the pimping and reccing thread.
And just getting people to reccomend it to their friends.
Also. Post in the Story/Review game thread. If somebody like an admin or a well-known person reads it and likes it, you might just get a link on their profile. (This actually happened to me today. :XD)
And put as many tags as possible that are actually related to the story. That way it's always popping up when people search.

Make friends with your readers. I constantly comment about half of the regular people who comment on my stories, it helps a lot. Interesting titles and straightforward summaries help also :)
