I love Skins! The American version is going to screw it up, but I'd still watch it.
I know, why would anyone want to change Maxxie?? I love him! The acting didn't
seem good either, but it's too early too tell.

MTV... oh, you've done it again.
I am extremely disappointed with the remake thus far. Instead of altering the script even a little bit for the first episode, MTV used the same dialogue and plot. This "American" version doesn't seem American at all.

What made me laugh was MTV's attempt to censor the show. If they wanted a clean show, they should not have chosen Skins to remake.

Overall... I was disappointed, but not surprised.

Shit, seriously? Oh god. I'm sorry to generalise, but America always seems to butcher British TV programs. Shameless, Skins, The Office etc.
How did they censor it? I'm not planning on watching the US version, but I'm curious how the tried to do that, since Skins is practically a montage of angst, sex and drugs.

Yup. It was pretty awful. Honestly, I agree, America has ruined great shows before, and probably won't stop. Yet another reason why I desire to live in the UK.....

Anyways, MTV tried to censor it by changing the script quite a bit. They kept the plot (which was frustrating in itself) and just altered the lines to cut out anything they considered inappropriate. When that failed, they bleeped out words. Another example - when Tony's watching the woman in the window, they made sure that the window pane was blocking everything.

Has anyone in the UK seen the US version of Skins yet? If so, where can I see it? I'm curious as to just what they're doing with it for myself.

New (UK) series looks rubbish. Nothing can beat the first generation, so I don't know why they keep trying. Facepalm They should have stopped after the second series.

Anyway. I'll give it a watch for Dakota Blue Richards, because I remember her from The Golden Compass and I'm curious to see how she copes with a different genre.

The new (UK) series looks appaling. They appear to be trying way too hard now. And it's not the same writers from the first few series either, it's an entire new team (if I remember rightly), so I don't hold out much hope. At least seasons 3 and 4 were watchable, though I agree that they should have stopped at season 2.

That and I still want to know what happened to Sid and Cassie. I've always said that they never met again, but some people say that they did meet up. Does anyone know!? Grr

I'll give it a watch because a friend (kind of) from school, Alex Arnolds, is in the show, playing the metalhead. Which couldn't be more different from how he is in real life. But ah well, it'll be interesting to see him in the role. And being able to laugh tehe

There's American Skins, American Being Human, and now American Misfits? Facepalm

    I'm not amused.

I say the first episode. Why are none of the people that are supposed to be hot . . . well, hot? Shifty The guy who was Tony made me wanna' shoot myself in the foot.

    Effy looked like Kesha. XD

American Sid is adorable though. OMGYES He looks like Tom Milsom. tehe

I'm still pissed about Maxxie. Disgust Way to completely drop my favorite character and replace him with some lesbian. What a double standard. How is having a lesbian any better or less offensive or whatever than a gay guy?

The thing that pissed me off most is making Maxxie a girl. What the hell! Like, it's okay to have a lesbian on mainstream American television because that's "hot" or whatever, but a gay male character is just out of the question?

I really hate that the plot is exactly the same too, aside from Maxxie. (On another note, how are they going to do the whole conflict when Tony offers to give Maxxie a blowjob and Michelle sees?) It's just so boring to rewatch. They've done nothing interesting with it.

I do kinda like the American Cassie though. She's pretty cute. tehe

I think it's meant to be left ambiguous. I personally think they do, because Sid is facing away from her, but then the last shot is of him turning around to face the cafe which she's working in, so I'm assuming he would see her. But maybe that's just wishful thinking tehe.

^ It probably won't. We never found out what happened with Cassie and Sid.

Half an hour to go! I'm so excited. :3 One of the girls on it is from Edinburgh and these girls I know are sort of friends with her. That's my claim to fame. tehe

I've been watching the American version as well. The first episode was just ridiculous, but the second episode was a bit better. They still had the Tony/gay character plot but seeing as the gay character is a girl in the American version, it kinda shook things up a bit. :)

I thought the new series (uk skins) was alright. I know it sounds a bit dumb, but I kind of feel a bit 'old' when watching it now XD I want to watch next weeks though, only because of the Slayer dude. tehe

Yeah, second episode was definitely better. Still not great. I think, maybe, it'll get good. Fingers crossed.

I liked the first episode of season 5! The beginning was a little too much like a British Mean Girls kind of thing, especially when those three girls sat with Franky at lunch and were like, let's hang out! But it grew on me by the end. My major problem with season 3&4 is that it just didn't feel like any of them were in school, and everything was really overdramatic. You know? They were kinda too wild, and it really wasn't realistic. So in a way, I'm glad that the new generation seems a little tamer. I'm interested to see where they go with this group.

^ Yeah, I'm the same. :) Tonight's episode should be good! Rich reminds me of this laddie in my school. It's insane.

Have you watched the third episode? It annoyed me. I thought they were going to start making it their own, but they haven't. Not really. :(

Thus far, is anyone else a little disappointed by the writing for the fifth series? I like the characters I think. They themselves have great potential, but the dialogue sometimes is so cringeworthy. In the first two episodes there have been a couple times where it was so bad I took notice immediately and was taken out of the narrative for a moment.

But other than that, Rich and Grace need to happen Shifty

i think, with generation three, we have come to the finish line of skins. as much as i love this series, there is only so much originality that can be brought in 6 seasons, and the lack of interesting dialog and characters in season 5 is kind of hurting my soul.
i was there with season 1 & 2. i was there with cassie and her eating disorder. with tony and the way the bus drove him over. with effy who never spoke. with sid who battled tony and his love for michelle, only to find himself losing cassie. for jal who fell for the screwed up chris who then died. i was there. for maxxie and anwar, that fought for their friendship, even though they had different believes.
i fell in love with season 3 & 4. with emily that wanted to become her own person, and wanted to be out of her sister katie's shadow. with naomi, who was so confussed. with cook who wanted nothing but someone that loved him. with effy who found true love and it drove her crazy. with jj, who couldn't stand up for himself. with panda who on the outside seems like a dork but on the inside makes you fall in love with her instanly and with thomas who almost got deported and freddie, who lost his mother and than almost had to lose effy the same way and than die for her!
I'm not feeling this generation. the others had me hooked from episode one, this gen just doesn't. even though i love franky. but that is about it. i hope i'm wrong... but i think gen 3 will be the finish of skins.
