Yeah I'm just pointing out to the people that read this thread that no, green tea is not going to speed up your metabolism.

    XD Oh! Haha.

But anyways, does anyone have any bonafide, self-tested workout plans that have worked well for them?
    I'm 5'2'' and approx 170lbs.
    I know. :|

^ I was around the same weight as you and I am the same height.
My workout is mainly doing high impact aerobic exercise DVDs and my mum has some old 90's workout tapes that I use. I would suggest using a couple of different dvds because then your changing it up and then it wont become boring.
I lost quite a bit of weight with this workout and dieting. Smile

But I think I need to change my workout now because I think my body has gotten used to the aerobic exercises, which is a pile of poo.

I do a combination of jogging, lifting weights, pilates and aerobics.

I have a Wii Fit, so I do jogging on there for about 20 mins (although normal jogging is fine too) then alternate weight lifting exercises with pilates exercises. Some days I do aerobics, but not everyday. Usually every second day (I don't really like doing aerobics lol).

I found that helped me lose fat and gain muscle.

I think a lot of weight loss advice is just common sense.

Burn more calories than you eat = weight loss.

There aren't any magical pills or drinks that are going to do it for you XD
It's completely true. People misconstrue diet pills anyways, because they don't read the fine print that says: use in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise routine

Lose weight: Burn more calories than you eat. Stay away from a lot of fatty and sugary foods and liquids. Drink lots of water. And get at least 30-60 minutes of some kind of exercise per day. Just get your heart rate up.

And also: EAT! It sounds contradicting, but you have to eat to lose weight. It keeps your metabolism up and balanced, and the higher your metabolism, the more calories you burn. You just have to eat fruits, veggies, lean meats and protein.

A bit off topic: But if people are having trouble loosing weight but are eating healthy and working out: go get your thyroid checked. It basically controls your metabolism as well, and also hormones, and if you have a problem with your thyroid, then you most likely won't lose weight. I actully plan on getting mine checked again at my next command. It was fine 2 years ago, and I dropped 50 lbs in 5 months, but now I'm having trouble getting the weight I gained back, off again. Thyroid problems seem to be running in my family, so next chance I get, I'm getting mine checked. Basically if it runs slower, it'll slow your metabloism.

I think mine has slowed in the past 2 years, cuz if I even think of a fatty food, I feel like I gain 10 lbs, and I'm basically afraid to eat anything (Which is HORRIBLE to do when you're trying to lose weight as well.) And I've been doing mad PT 7 days a week, and sometimes twice a day. I'm extremely active, and my weight doesn't want to come off again.

So since I'm bad with exercise I was researching foods that speed up weight loss, and raw vegetables apparently.
I ate like half a bag of raw baby carrots, before I even read this, so I feel pretty good right now.

The only real way raw vegetables would speed up weight loss is if you only ate raw vegetables and nothing else. There isn't a magic nutrient in raw vegetables that burns fat faster and more noticeably, so unless you're just existing on raw carrots and celery and the like, it probably won't speed anything up dramatically.

Everybody says that green tea boosts your metabolism but I drink like, three bottles of lipto green tea a day and I don't lose weight any easier than I did before I drank the green tea.
If Lipto is the same as Lipton, you should really avoid their products (well, the bottled stuff) if you want to lose weight because it's so sugary. Unless they do diet versions now.

The only thing that's ever made me lose weight effectively is going to uni XD I have to walk everywhere and I don't have any money to buy snacks or junk food. It's great.

No one is bad with exercise.

I'm not sure how you're saying you're bad at it.
Like do you not know any workouts? That's easily fixed by internet research and stuff.

Or do you just have no motivation to do so? We all get like that, sometimes we just have to force ourselves to do it. There's times I'm just like fuck my life I do not wanna workout today...nooooo but I'll go to the gym and I"ll feel great afterwards. A few weeks ago I forced myself to go to the gym, and ended up being there almost 2 hrs and felt great afterwards.

Are you not sure how to start a workout routine? Another one fixed by internet research. Start with a few simple exercises and gradually build up. You can't just start right away by running 5 miles and basically killing yourself. You have to ease into a good routine.

No I'm bad as in I get ill when I workout. Like seconds into the workout I feel sick.

Yeah, I had a typo. I drink the diet green tea blend. And if I remember correctly, since I have no more left, there's 0 sugar. I've lost weight from drinking that instead of soda before, I just have to get back into it. So it works.

I'm fully aware of this, but I'm saying I'm at least going to lose just a tiny, smidge of weight from quitting pop and not eating junk food. Actually, all I seem to be eating lately is salads, raw baby carrots, and apples.

I said it doesn't speed up your metabolism, not that it doesn't make weight loss easier.
And I'm not neccesarily saying the green tea makes you lose weight, it just helped with me because it was a healthy alternative to pepsi.

In the past few months I've lost 20 to 30 lbs. I wasn't big before on any standard but now I think I'm just the right size for me. (Although my head is a bit big for my body and I look like a living Bratz doll). The thing is, is that I didn't cognatively do anything different for my body to change. I did gain a bit of weight at the boarding school I was attending and when I got home, lost more than I gained. But right now I have a set routine which WOULD be healthy if I didn't smoke.
Breakfast= BIG meal. Eat whatever. Choice #1- snack throughout the rest of the day. Choice #2- eat a medium lunch and small dinner. I usually smoke after every meal though because it speeds up the digestive system. I hate the feeling of being too full. :/

I've lost almost 10 lbs tehe That's pretty much all of the weight I put on in the summer because of an injury, GONE.

Just 5 or so to go until I'm comfortable, 15 for my absolute ideal.

I always eat really healthily during the week. Have a little treat of a weekend. Drink water or tea (with no sugar) and I've lost 1st and 3 pound in the last 2 months tehe it's really good too. I mean I never ate a lot of junk in the first place but the water helps a lot, and the tea. Having a small treat makes me want to eat healthily in the week so I can look forward to it XD idk, I'm odd.

My best tip for weight loss: PORTION CONTROL! Most people seem to be very ignorant about portion size (I hope that doesn't sound rude?!). For example, a little bag of Lays chips may say 130 calories per serving, but below that it will also probably say: "3.5 serving per bag" or something along those lines. Also, a lot of people don't know the ideal portion for a certain type of food (one half-cup is the FDA-recommended portion of any type pasta or ice cream, for example), and even if they do, they probably don't know what it looks like (for example, a half-cup looks like about half a tennis ball).

Understanding and practicing portion size allows you to basically eat whatever you want and still maintain or lose weight (okay, not completely, but I'm sure you get what I man). Go ahead and have some ice cream-- just make sure it's the correct serving size and that, based on what you ate previously that day, it's within your caloric limit.

I have lost about eleven pounds recently, all from simply changing my diet and excersising on my crosstrainer every night varying between fifteen minutes or forty. (rarely forty minutes to be honest though, I'm not a fan of exercising but just do it because I have too tehe)

Anyway, I've been eating exactly the same, probably putting even more effort into crosstraining etc, but am not losing any weight anymore?! I don't know whether it's simply because I'm on my period at the moment and I know that can sometimes do funny things with your weight, or because I've just reached a plateu. Does anyone have any tips for being able to break that, because losing 11 pounds was literally just to get rid of the stuff I gained when leaving school, and I've still got another 8 pounds or so to go until I'll be happy.

Thanks for any replies (and sorry this is so long.)

At my gym, after doing the circuit-type-thing for a month or something like that, they move it up a gear because they say that if you just carry on at the same level then your weight loss will plateau, so maybe you need to increase the intensity of your work outs?

(NB: I don't really know anything about exercise, I'm just trying to remember what I've been told XD)
