Sex Education

I think that sex education is very limited in schools.
A school can sometimes dodge particular issues such as contraception, homosexuality, STD's and more.
I find that schools teach us all the scientific stuff and then teach abstinence.
I don't think it is enough.

Are other people's schools like mine?
What are your opinions?

My school doesn't cover the whole contraception, STD's, etc. til year 10 & 11. but by that time probably about 1/4 of my year would have gone further than we're taught about.
And homosexuality, we don't even cover it which i think is stupid. More people get teased because of their sexuality rather than other stuff.
Yeah, we're taught all the scientific stuff but what use is that?

I love sex ed, because a lot of the time it's about opinion rather than fact.
We got taught it last year, but we also got taught it when I was in year six (ten/eleven years old). In year six, we were separated from the boys and they just taught us about periods. Last year, we were actually taught about sex and such.

We get sex ed every year in our school.
I personally don't mind it that much.
It's just really the immature boys who laugh at anything on the video that makes me nervous.
And the fact that our teacher doesn't take his eyes away from the screen and shouts at us if we don't watch it..

They don't teach us anything about homosexuality at our school either.
But we do sex ed every year as well. It's always the same. It's more scientific facts that we learn about.

We have sex ed every year since 5th grade. (10, 11 year olds) and what they teach us to me is pointless. Once you get to 8th grade (13, 14) they talk about STD's and stuff, which they actually cover in my school and is important. But the health teacher doesn't talk about other important things, that more people at our age are going through, which doesn't make sense. I mean more than 90% percent of people in my grade haven't had sex yet, but more than 30% of kids in my grade don't know their sexual orientation, or they self harm themselves. I think schools should cover sex ed and everything, but I think Health should not just consist of that.

My mum is actually quite worried about the Sex Ed in my school.
We haven't had any since Year 6 and she's wrried that as Its a catholic school they won't teach us about contraception.
And the last time we had sex Ed it wasn't even about Sex!
It was about Periods and how "Some of your bits ain't nice."

My school is catholic too and they teach us nothing.
I am in year ten and the only education I have had since year six is about the scientific names and stuff.
It's stupid.
I don't need/want to know about that.

I think sex-ed should be very proactive and I don't agree with abstinence-only.

For highschool kids its okay.

Really? 5th grade?

I think the kids have to be mature enough to handle it [to some extent at least] but then again have the kids having sex aren't mature enough for that either. :roll:

Well, high school is grades 9-12.

To me, one pregnant sixth grader is too many.

the sex ed at my school was ridiculous - most of it was done in R.E which consisted of don't have it!
We did get one lesson where this guy came in to talk about STDs but he was all doom and gloom. He was like you have unprotected sex, you will get an STD and you will die.

What was funny though he told us the statistics on it and said so 5 people in this room will get one and I said and I can tell you which 5! And I did!!! This stupid slutty orange girl was all you better not mean me so I told her she's exactly who I meant, and then the other were basically her cronies - that shut them up!

In the UK, there is a lot of sex ed. But it's almost encouraging us. They teach us about STDs and that, but just say "use a condom". The only thing they say to discourage it is that sex under 16 is illegal. Yeah, like anyone cares about that. I think they should point out that we need to consider that there is always a chance of pregnancy, and that a lot of people regret losing their virginity young.

This year we learned about teen pregnancy and watched a Lifetime award winner, no doubt, about some boy who knocked up his girlfriend.
It was that guy from Little Miss Sunshine.
It was really funny because they did it in her and there was this scene of them lying in it together in the bedprint was flowery and she had like dolls. :lmfao
The movie was called To Young To Be A Dad...

We had that 'Some of your bits ain't nice' video!!! It just made me laugh.
At our school it's prtty much thm barking 'use a condom!' at us, that's about it. It's complete crap, I had to explain to my friends that the withdrawal method doesn't work as contraception after she'd had sex.

Useless.

We didn't exactly have 'sex education' at my high school. We had Health though, and our teacher did talk some about sex.

Though it was weird, because it was an older woman telling us that, and I quote, 'You have to warm the oven before you cook the chicken'. :shock:

For any of those that didn't catch that, she was talking about the importance of foreplay.

Needless to say it was a little uncomfortable, but amusing.

I think that sex ed should be taught though, to at least teach kids the risk of sex. It's impossible to keep kids from doing it, so they might as well tell them what can happen if they do and if they're not careful.
