I would not want people doing this because if more people want girls like 60/40 it would not be good because it could endanger our species a bit if people did favor a certain gender. Our species isn't endangered though so whatever. I would like keep it at the luck of the draw.

I wouldn't do it but that wouldn't stop anyone else from doing it.

To be honest, it would be a good thing if the human population decreased a bit...

But I understand what you mean. It would mess with balance.

I wouldn't want to choose and like already mentioned above, it might have bad influences on the human species. I think i tis good the way it is.

    ^ That's a very good point.

And no doubt there will be trends. One generation will be full of blonde haired blue eyed babies and the next will all be red-heads.

I think choosing the sex it one thing but when they take it further I can think of more negative aspects than positive.

    Emily.:
On the topic of manipulating the appearance of your baby; what happens when all the other babies have been modified to be beautiful and intelligent, but your parents didn't want to change you?
So in a class of twenty, you have nineteen perfect, pretty, smart kids and one ugly, stupid one.

And then later on in life, because your parents didn't want to change you, you're going to struggle to get a job and move up in the world, because everyone else will be prettier, smarter and to some extent, 'better'.

How is that fair? How is it a good thing?

(And yes, I know that no one has yet mentioned modifying the intelligence level of a child, but if science can modify the appearance of a child, what's to stop it changing the intelligence level?)
I never thought of it this way. You are so right. If parents can choose what their kids are like.. other parents who don't will suffer from that as well as the kid.

I would not want to alter my baby in any way, shape, or form. It just ruins the natural cycle of reproduction.

I wouldn't want to choose the sex of my child either. I don't know. I mean, if I didn't have a choice, I would.

To answer the question of the thread - absolutely not. If people are allowed to choose the sex of the baby then there will be a big imbalance of the males and females in the world. That would just be f***ed up.

I haven't gone through all the arguements yet, but I have one very big thing to say:

What the hell happened to accepting people for who they are?

I don't understand it. Part of a human being's growth is to come to terms with who they really are. If their parents change them forcefully before they're ever born- this journey will get more messed up then it already is. Think about it. A lot of people reject their parents as they get older, and want to make themselves into something that doesn't meet to their parents' acceptance. Changing a baby takes away its rights to be who it will want to be.

I'm flat-out against this. Sorry, but I do not agree with genetic altering for perfection. One, I find it unbelievebly selfish of the parent (apart from in genetic disorders. That's an exception). Two, it's also not fair on previous generations to introduce these genetically modified super babies. It's one step towards creating a Utopia, where everyone gets everything they want, hardship unincluded. Sounds nice, right? But it wouldn't work. Utopias never do, because everyone doesn't have the same opinions. To make a Utopia, we'd have to wipe out any individual ideals. Everyone would lose their individual rights. I know I'm crossing to a different subject, but it may happen if we have the technology to modify unborn children.

Perfection doesn't exist for a reason. It brings too many problems. Not just for the children that get purposely moulded into something else (hey, and wouldn't the problem of people being born into the wrong gender get worse? I mean, what if you made your unborn child a boy and for all his life he wished to be the opposite sex? I know all foetus' start out as female, but still...), but for the people who haven't been modified and are not completely perfect. We have so many people doing terrible things to themselves to reach the media's idea of perfection already. It'll only get worse if that perfection becomes even more attainable to humanity.

    The Magical Fix-It:
What the hell happened to accepting people for who they are?
It is human nature to dislike something different. Even animals do it. For example if a chicken looks different from the other chickens they all peck it to death. Sure humans aren't that harsh but we can make thier lives hell like that, torching someone until they kill themselves etc. Humans are way more developed and should be able and mature enough to accept something different but we do not. It is hard to accept someone the way they are, that is why there are so many cliques and people don't act like themselves around other people.

Sorry if I went a bit off topic...

We are too over populated, so I don't think it'd really matter too much. :XD

But yeah, I think if you want a girl, why not? Or if you want a boy, choose a boy. Doesn't bother me.

I can see how this is both a good thing and a bad thing. I mean, it's cool to be able to choose the gender of your child, but in the cases where it's just like "Oh, well, I've always wanted a girl..." then it's the type of parents who would love their child however they are. Specifically, whichever gender they turn out to be. The people in the world who would use this because they actually want one gender, such as a boy so that he can work, could exploit this. I don't think that being allowed to do this would upset the balance of men and women too much, but I think that it's a dangerous thing to do. Science is rather dangerous, and throwing things like this that aren't necessary into the mix isn't always good.

Imagine a movie script where one of the genders in the future have gotten extremelly rare. Would make an interesting movie.

Yeah but no way should that be allowed to happen in real life!

There already more females in the world by like a percent or less but that is probably because women live longer. But any more or less would throw off the balance espesially for males because there would need to be more males to have children with the females[only if people had children with one other person], thus less children. And a lack of females would mean that there would mean again less children because there would be less women to bear the children. Studies show more females than males are being born, like 51:49 in some areas, not like that makes much difference. But, if most people wanted more boys that would throw off the balance majorly. Imagine 5 boys for every girl, yeah that would mean more men to choose from but that would also mean a smaller popularion, but right now with way more than six billion people on earth that would probably be a good thing.

I would hate it if there were much more men than women. To me it already feels like so. :(

I think it's way too much.
I want a boy when I get older, But I think that's up to who ever God is. And if he or she says I'm gonna have a girl, The that's whats gonna happen.

People just need to learn to live with what they have and not be so controlling.
