    Yes and No.

I think a band can help you keep on going and maybe inspire you to seek help and such...
That's what happened to me kinda.

I go up and down all the time, and I have my favourite band that I listen to when I'm feeling low or on the verge of a anxiety attack.
I relate to their songs and it "helps me"...

    One song especially.
The singer kind of plays two parts:
One dark part that says life is shit and one bright part that tells you to keep on going and that there's still beauty in the world.
That song inspired me to start telling people about my problems and to seek help.

Music has personally saved my life.
With out it I wouldn't be here, plain and simple.
It's been the only constant and main thing in my life for years.
If I didn't have it, I would have literally killed myself.
And the band that's helped me the most?
    Obviously Green Day.
I can go into more detail if you like but that's my main point.

I have to say even if it sounds rediculous, yes, MCR saved my life. I would honestly be dead if it wasn't for them. I owe them so much for that. I can go on and on in detail about it but I prefer not to. I was literally alone and depressed and ready to end it all but then I heard MCR and I learned about them and I listened to them and their stories and it just affected me so strongly like nothing else has. They still influence me in my everyday life. They are my heroes and I love them more than words could ever express <3

I don't think it's possible. I think music gives you the power to save your own life. It makes me sad when people won't accept that power and want to turn it over to a band.

I think it's not so much the band it self but that feeling you get when you hear words that can reflect your life. Just knowing that their are others out their that feel the same and now are able to live amazing lives makes you feel like their is hope for anyone. Also your brain may just need a positive sound wave to make you feel energized. But these kids that get into tears seeing their fav bands lives it not that they are being saved they are escaping reality which can start to be damaging. I now I been their done that. I'm still having to control my OCD I get threw band interest. Once again I still think that music takes a huge part of our lives and how we function but it's not the individual band that is saving you.

^ You're right, but wrong at the same time. Yes, lyrically the bands help you help yourself, but here's where you're wrong. The bands that write these songs obviously have some kind of understanding of what you're going through, and have gone through it themselves.

A lot of the time, just by knowing that someone else was in you're shoes, and managed to over-come whatever it may be and do something great with their lives is extremely inspirational. Sometimes, people just need to know their not alone.

Now, saving lives? Maybe not. But credit is definitely due for helping people out of horrible situations.

For instance, music has always been my escape. I had a pretty shitty life growing up, and it was always the first thing I'd turn to.
I remember one time in particular, at my all time low when I felt I was completely alone, I "borrowed" my step-fathers gun. No one was home. I had my stereo turned up full blast to drown out the shot so my neighbors wouldnt hear. I literally had the gun in my mouth, safety off and my finger about the sqeeze the trigger when a certain song came on. It described everything in my life exactly, and went on to say how life could only get better from there.

Now, yes, it gave me the power to help myself, but without that song my brains would have been splattered across a wall. I give credit when credits due, and it inspired me to give life a try.

Every so often I'll go back into those types of mind-sets, and music is still the first thing I turn to.
I'm not saying music doesn't help. You're assuming I am and I'm not. I know music helps. I'm not an idiot. There are times I thought I would die and then I went and listened to a song on repeat and didn't cut myself.

    But I did it.

The band/music did not stop me. They just helped me.

If you're going to walk in front of a bus and Gerard Way pulls you back, he saved your life. Otherwise he just gave you the power to do it yourself.

    Helping =/= saving.

I'm not saying it's bad. I'm saying people need to be more willing to accept the fact that they can save their life instead of giving the credit to someone else.

Me personally, I believe they can't but my all time favorite band is The Fray. They changed the way I view things now, in ways I haven't before, my life was fine before The Fray, but after them, it's a lot better and I enjoy things I haven't, while listening to them. They're a Christian band, and no way am I religious in any aspect, but I do believe in God and their lyrics have changed me, I suppose.

But bands saving lives I'm not sure about that, I'm not saying they can't, but I never heard of them doing so. It's very, very different for people, and it's a matter that's far beyond my perspective.

Not physically, but mentally they could have big influence on people. More or less. They can give you a reason to live, etc, somehow they just do that by showing you even more reasons to live than what they might obviously state through lyrics and such, since it's something you might realise when you've "seen the light" in your current situation.

Well honestly I think that if they are making you feel better than in a way that would be saving your life....wouldn't it? I think so anything that you think can make you feel better whether they are physically there or not could possibly help take away the bad things in your life. Music can save peoples lives in some way or another, it all depends on who you are and the way you handle things. I know if i am in a bad mood instead of turning to something reckless i tend to turn to music as a form of help for me that day.

So basically it all depends on how you look at it, and how much you love and enjoy music. Bye

I feel exactly the same way.

When I listen to Avenged Sevenfold, it feels like I can just forget my troubles for a little while.

I completely agree. I absolutely adore Breaking Benjamin, and their song Until The End gave me hope and power enough to just go on.

The band saved me by making me realize I needed to save myself.

I tried to kill myself three times. The last time, I was sent to Maryvale in Windsor.. I don't think that I would have wanted to get better without mcr or mt. Idk. They didn't save my life, they just inspired me to want to save my life. Nothing that no one has not said yet.
I hate that "______ saved my life" is becoming a trend. It's getting annoying. Like, fuck.

I agree with this 100%. Band's can give you hope, help you phrase your feelings, improve your mood, or help you see the light, but at the end of the day, it's YOU who takes the steps in saving your life (if that's the situation). The music may have helped to inspire you, but unless Gerard Way jumped in front of you and took a bullet, pushed you out of the way of a drunk driver, created and administered the cure for an exotic illness you've suffered, etc, YOU (or maybe someone you know) saved you; not the band. haha.

Edit: Apparently I already agreed with this, haha. But this time I went into more details, so I'll just leave it as it is.

I think they do. There are always a few that make me put the razor down. They make me happy. They remind me that there is such a thing as happiness. On some of my worst days when even my baby girl, Ariadne, can't cheer me up, I listen to music and can forget why I'm upset.

It's the lyrics and their meaning that helps. Not the individual writing them. Just my opinion.

I feel like Jenn Ghetto did save my life. Even if she did just inspire me to keep going, inspiration can and does go a long way. I don't think I'd be here today if it wasn't for her.
