They can't physically save your life, no.
But they can give you the strength to live, they can empower you, they can certainly change your life.
    So.. I dunno.

I agree with what a lot of people are saying; it's not the band that physically saves your life, it's you. Mentally on the other hand, I think music can heal, which for some people is saving enough.

But music is a funny thing though, you know? You can become so wrapped up in it that just by listening to to a song you get the strength that you need to save yourself, or to get by. I think music and bands can be very powerful. I think the effect they have on someone can lead to saving lives, though, as said before, it's obviously not direct. If you're just listening through your speakers to a song, it's not making you drop a razor blade or whatever.

They might give you a reason to live, a reason to dream, a reason to get through stuff.

I just don't really know if they have so much power so as to physically save your life. Idk.
I totally, as in agree with this.
    Well said. Dance

Well they certainly haven't saved the lives of all people that used to listen to them but ended up pushing themselves, into a thing we call death, have they?
They may save lives, in a sense that they inspire people to change the way they think and feel about things. Maybe bring a more positive outlook on someone's dreary life.
But they didn't physically say "Put down that vodka" or whatever that pushed them, and then the person simply stopped.

    Nothing happens like that.

What do we mean when we say 'saves lives,' anyway? Is it simply the change of someone's style, trends or fashion? Changing how they feel about things? Or is it removing them from suicide road?
What is it really that people mean when they say that such and such saved their life?
It's a different meaning for everyone, really.

The only person who can save your life is you.

People, bands, can help. They can give you the reason, the meaning, the want to save your own life. But they can't do it for you.

Bands can save lives. To me - they did it: emotionally and mentally for me.

They saved me emotionally - they gave me confidence in myself.
I believe I can do things, much more efficiently.
They made me stronger and I know I can do things.

I think they can because they help you see that even if your life sucks, you'll always have that bright spot that is your favourite music and if you're lucky, that bright spot will grow.

Just because they're not there to help you physically doesn't mean they can't help you mentally or emotionally.

There is a possiblity they could literally save your life...
I mean, maybe you're dangling from a cliff and a bandmember runs over and helps you up. Thus, saving your life.

    Otherwise, no.

Well, even if someone came storming into your room and stole all your razors/pills/bottles/whatever that wouldn't mean you're saved. That just means you'd have find an other way to break yourself apart. Kidnapping someone does not cure depression.

I believe love not screams, not pushes saves lives. If you feel that a band truly loves you [it's hard to explain the feeling if you haven't felt it] then I think that band has literally saved your life.

I think that the formula I saved myself is a bit vain and I could never use it on myself. If I could save myself, why did I need the music then? Anyway, I don't think my salvation lies in music anymore. Poems and certain books shed some light, friends also. Or maybe I'm just beyond salvation.
But it saved me once and I'll never forget it. No-one gets the luck of being saved twice, well at least I don't.

I dont think the bands save lives. I think that the songs, or the lyrics or the emotions cause by music can save a life.
I don't mean that someone on the brink of suicide can listen to a tune and be like "Well maybe today will be a brighter day!" because that's just dumb, i just think that it can definitely be something powerful enough to make you feel something, then that could potentially save someone.

I don't think bands save live, to be honest. I find it frustrating when people say 'MCR* saved my life!!!' because I don't see how they can actually do that, unless they physically take a gun from your head, or a knife from your wrist, or something like that.
But I suppose bands can give you a reason to live, but I don't get it how if MCR* wasn't a band, you wouldn't be living? But I suppose if you were having a terrible life and then a band influencing you to live the I suppose it can save your live, to a certain point.
I hope you understand what I mean even though this probably makes no sense.

    * I used MCR as a example, because I think it is the most popular band used, in this situation.

Music can change people but it is up to the person to make the changes using what the music has given them.

Music or the lyrics of the song can just probably help or inspire you but I don't think they can save your life.
Like what was said, you are the one who can save your own life.

They may give you the tools, for lack of a better word, to make a difference in your life, but as for saving it?

Your the only one who can do that. And while music and lyrics may help they don't make the ultimate decision.
