My mother recently brought me a rat. To help me with the loss of my cat, Tom, and I absolutly love him!
His name is Frankenstein and he's so affectionate!

Any other rat owners/lovers out there?

My cousin's have a rat named Dude :tehe: He is so cool and smart. He likes Asian food, uses a litter box and runs around the house with their cat (who I'll add are oddly best friends) It's rather odd.

I have 14 ratties. ^_^ Blame an accidental litter. 15 babies in one litter. Figures.

Anyway, rats should really be kept in pairs, they're very social animals. It's been proven that rats become neurotic, aggressive, harm themselves, and have shorter life spans when kept alone. The first three happened to me with my first rat, hence why I have 14 now.

I have some great sites to show you. I don't know if I'm allowed to post them on here. o_O If you'd like, I could PM you with the sites. One's a general info/health/diet site and the other is an animal forum. There's tons of rattie people there. =]

    I've had 7 rats.

Patch and Snowy were the first ones. Then we got Ziggy and Seajay and then we got Mungo.
Mungo only had one eye and he was really fat and just absolutely gorgeous. :cute:

Then after they all died, like two years later we got Sammy, and then Oscar. Then they died. Cry
    But I do love rats.

Last October 2006, I had a rat named Billie. But she died, I dunno why.
Then this January I got two again, named Pansy and Bullet.
But Bullet got eaten by my cat. So I bought another one, I named it Bullet still.
Then now, they are so healthy and very playful.

Please, please, please, remember that if you ever follow through on trying rats as pets to get at least two of the same gender. They can mate at as young as 5 weeks old, often resulting in death or severe birth complications for both the mother and the babies.

If anyone is thinking about getting rats or wants to know more about them, feel free to PM me. I'm a endless book of knowledge. I could go on forever. But if you have any questions about their personalities or living requirments, just ask! =] I could even show you lots of cute pictures. ^_^

    *gushes*

    I'm done now.

They definately are clever, and extremely affectionate. I find the main problem people have with them is their tails, and red eyes. But not all rats have pink or red eyes, and their tails aren't slimy or scaley unless they have a health problem.

Frankenstein has a really smooth tail, and he has blackish eyes...

There's 4 colors of eyes; pink, red, ruby, and black. Ruby can look like black unless there's sufficent lighting, in which case a dark red/burgandy tint can be seen.

Smooth tails are good. =] A lot of time, when boys come out of the baby stage, their tails may flake from time to time because they become to lazy to clean it. I find girls are more OCD with hygiene. The issue could also be from having a dry tail, so rubbing some olive oil on it once a week does the trick.

Waygasm, I sent you a message, did you receive it?

I love it when the rat's tail curls around your hands or whatever is near them for balance. I think that's the cutest thing in the world.

I have two at the moment but once I've got a bigger cage I'm gonna get two more.
I got mine a few weeks ago I bought one but then three days later I toke the bus and got an other one^^ They're so cute and sweet. I named them Pickles and Peppers. I'm really surprised my mother let me since they scare her to death *laughs* it's the tail she hates, she keeps saying I should ve got a hamster, but I am glad I didn't.

BlindUnicorn, it's so nice to see that you got two and that you're getting a bigger cage before you add onto your family! ^_^
