Hitler

  • HopelessHEARTSx:
He wasn't very clever, he was just manipulative.
If you're not clever, how would you come up with ways to manipulate people?
    HopelessHEARTSx:
They put like, 30 kids who liked Jews and everything in a room. A teacher taught them that Jews were horrible, and after a certain time, they believed the Jews should die.
..When did they do this? Source?

  • ^ I don't admire him, I said a boy I know goes around pretending to be Hitlers friend, because he thinks he's funny. Which he's not of course.

He was clever, there's really no doubt about it.

Has anyone seen the movie 'The Wave'?
We saw it in school, and it's actually quite a good movie.

It's about a class in high school, that asks their teacher about how thousands of people in Germany, could claim after the war that they didn't know what Hitler was doing to all the jews.

And so the teacher decides to show them. He makes up a group for them, and they call it 'the wave'. They have a code
    "Strenght though community,
    strenght through dicipline,
    strenght through action!"
    If I'm not mistaken.

They have banners, they have wristbands. And they all feel like they're a part of something really, cool. But there's only two people out of the whole class, that thinks there's something wrong with what they're doing, that they're turning into a 'cult' rather then a club.

In the end, the teacher tells them that the Wave is huge, and that it actually has a world leader, and they will get to meet him at a big meeting they're having. So all the members of the Wave (which by then had spread beyond the class, and almost the whole school was involved) decorate the gym with their logo and things like that.

Then the teacher comes out, and he brings out a big tv, and then he waits. And the whole room full with students get restless, saying things like "you've lied, there is no leader!" and finally the teacher says this:

"You want a leader? HERE IS YOUR LEADER!" and then he turns on the TV, and it shows an old clip of Hitler shouting in German. And the whole room gets quiet and the teacher continues: "You asked me, how thousands and thousands of Germans could not notice what Hitler did, what was going on. But you have all been blind, and this is exactly how he did it"

So yeah, it's old, the actors are crap, and the special effects are even worse, but the message is brilliant!

  • I have seen "The Wave" but the new German version. It was really great and stunning. There you can see that the manipulation Hitler did is still possible just on a different level. And this thought is kind of scary.. I don't wanna know how exactly media are manipulating us.
    June 5th, 2008 at 10:33am
  • It is scary, I mean, so many people in Germany had no clue what was going on, and when you hear that you instantly think "eh, what are you, blind?"
    But they really didn't know.

Scary how people can be manipulated.

  • It doesn't take a smart person to be manipulative.
    Just a powerful person.
Hitler was powerful, but he wasn't smart. If he was, we would have won. And he didn't.

You can be intelligent and still lose, it happens every day. An idiot cannot convince an entire country to conform to his policies. An idiot would not be able to manipulate people, because they would see right through what he was trying to do. Hitler was a very cunning and analytical person.

How exactly do you think Hitler obtained the power he had? Certainly not from stupidity, that also required intelligence.
    June 5th, 2008 at 06:23pm
  • He used his intelligence in the wrong (bad) way. But he was smart.. maybe not book-smart but still.
    June 5th, 2008 at 09:06pm
  • ^ As stated above, you don't get power like that from being stupid.
It does take some great intelligense to manipulate people like that.
He knew what to say, and how to say it, to make people believe what he wanted them to believe. That's very clever.
    June 5th, 2008 at 09:40pm
  • I really do think he had a great mind. Great, but horrific. That man had such a power to manipulate minds, it's shocking, it really is.
My former history teacher once told us that some historians took a recording of several of his speeches, and realized, after listening and studying them closely that he could speak for hours on end without saying anything relevant.
I think that that says it all, and it was true.
    June 6th, 2008 at 05:55pm
  • Yeah, he wasn't kind, but there's really no denying that he was smart.
    June 6th, 2008 at 07:31pm
  • But think of it this way: If he could talk for hours without saying anything relevant then he had to be at least a bit clever. I mean he could draw and keep the attention of so many people for hours.
Many politicans who say relevant things can't do that.

  • ^ Eh, if that post was meant to me, then I think I can state that you and I both think Hitler was very clever, and that our opinions are pretty much the same haha xD

  • I think it's absolutely retarded when people say the Holocaust never happened. It kind of makes me want to punch those people, or just shoot them because it isn't violence when it's with guns. :tehe:

They refused to teach about the Holocaust in schools until very recently [In Australia, at least.] and that bugs me. I mean, it's a very important part of history, and everyone was trying to sweep in under the rug...:/

Oh really, you don't? I do it many times, either at college, or at school. I also would like to read Hitler's "Mein Kampf" but it is forbidden so XD haha.

  • ^^^My mother gets mad when I talk about it alot. It is a very interesting subject though and very arguable so I can't help it. I really want to read the book Mein Kampf but I don't even know if our library carries it, I need to find out if they do though.

I'm not in school anymore, and I work as an au-pair.... Talking about Hitler with an 8 and 10 year old isn't that much fun HAHA!

We used to discuss sex in school, not Hitler ;D

But me and my mum has discussions about it now and again.
I'm pretty sure you can find Mein Kampf in Sweden, I'll have to read it :D
