^If you're a Baptist, you have to be baptised in order to get to heaven.

No you don't just because your a baptist doesn't mean you need to be baptised. I am a baptist and I believe you get to heaven by asking Jesus to clease your sins and then if you choose to get baptised you can but it doesn't do anything

It did in all the Baptist churches I went to/talked to.

I think it's all kind of silly.

But then again, I am an atheist... ;)

I don't personally believe that one religion has it right.
I just think that saying "Baptists have to be baptized but Lutherans don't" is kind of ridiculous.

Well, the churches I've been to would've said that your church is wrong and everyone is going to Hell.

I've been baptised (and confirmed; so yes, Catholics do it too) and it means nothing to me. On the other hand, I think it was rather ridiculous to be confirmed at the age of 7 (as far as I know, Salford diocese is the only in England which does that) because at 7, you're hardly in a better position to decide. Which is why most other places leave it until later.

Although I'm Orthodox and I was baptized as a child -and I got my Confirmation shortly after I was baptized, I have a friend who is Catholic and she only got her confirmation when she was around 13.

I was baptised when I was a baby, and I was confirmed when I was 8. Then I had my official communion when I was 10.

Another one of my friends got her confirmation last year, so she would've been 14 or 15.

I was baptized but I don't believe in Christianity or any of the sort.
My children won't be baptized either, I just don't believe in that type of thing.

I was baptised when i was younger against my will, i spoke out but nobody listened, i'm wiccan now and i fear being christened more than anything else, i do think it makes a difference but only mentally and only if you mean it or have strong feelings against it.

My parents were (and still are) two different denominations of Christianity; Baptist (dad) and Catholic (mom). They could not agree on what I was to be baptized as, so instead I was "dedicated" to Christ.

What exactly is that, you ask? Well, here:

So, that basically makes me a Non-denominational Christian. I have always been one, and I never really intend to get baptized either. And if I ever adopt kids, I'm not going to force them into getting baptized other; it will be their choice.

I think we should abolish denominations. We all believe that Jesus died for our sins, I believe that is one fundamental thing that we forget.

That is why I like when we have Church Togethers. All churches of differing denominations come together to remember who were all follow and have faith in.

Anyway,

I was Christened when I was 3...never been confirmed though. And haven't been baptised.

That's really sad. Jesus taught that we should be tolerant...

Well, the church that I went to was a fundamental independent baptist church, and I grew up knowing that you didn't have to be baptized, but it was really encouraged to be baptized.
So, I don't know....

I think it's great if you want to do it, and if you think it brings you closer to God, more power to you. But nobody should be forced into it and it certainly isn't necessary to go to Heaven.

I might get baptized someday, but at this juncture I just don't really see the point. My stepmom got baptized a while ago, and she said it was a really neat experience. She doesn't think it's necessary to go to Heaven either, though.

Being baptised is a physical representation of our commitment to God. Remember even Jesus was baptised before the Spirit came down on Him.

umm I don't believe that a CHILD should be baptized...I mean for what? what sins has an innocent child done..he's a child and won't be charged like adults..now a adult must when he accepts GOD. Why? because when he accepts GOD he's leaving the man/women he or she used to be. When they get baptized it symbolizes as a pact with GOD...you leaving your bad ways behind.....because it will no longer be you but GOD in you

I don't get what you mean. Baptism isn't necessary to go to Heaven, and it isn't like you have to get baptized to cleanse yourself of sins. I don't really agree that an adult who accepts God must get baptized. Why is it a necessity?

I am going to be baptised, at some point within the next year hopefully.
I don't think it is weird or anything like that, in my opinion it would just bring me closer to God which is what I want.

I'm planning on getting baptized either in September or October.
In my eyes, I believe that being baptized is something that the person would want to do. I was christened when I was a baby and being baptized will bring me that step closer to God that I wish to have.
