Adolf Hitler- His ideas were sick but they still fascinate me
Jack the Ripper- Same as above
Stalin- I admire how that man scared that many people during his time as dictator

I know I like odd people
I'm fascinated with how their minds worked or how they gained power so fast :shifty

That's a hard one. I don't have a favorite, but there are many people in history that I think are great. I know more about some than others.

Elizabeth Blackwell, for example. I find it fascinating that she was only accepted into medical school because the faculty put it to a student vote, who said yes thinking her application was a hoax. I don't know much else about her, but I think that her being the first female doctor in America is just amazing. Probably because I wish to be a doctor.

Abraham Lincoln fascinates me, too, but not because of why everyone thinks he is so great. Most people believe he's great because he freed the slaves and such, but he actually would have liked to keep slavery and hold the union together. Freeing the slaves, IN THE SOUTH ONLY, was just a strategic move. I think he's amazing because he defeated the south and held the country together during the Civil War.

I am fascinated with pretty much any royalty, but mostly the family of Henry VIII. I don't like him so much, but I enjoy learning about his daughters Mary and Elizabeth.

I am also fascinated by Adolf Hitler and the Nazis, but I wouldn't say he's my favorite historical figure. As someone else said, I think one's favorite should be someone they admire and such.

I know there are so much more, but I can't think of them right now.

    Oscar Wilde and Adolf Hitler.
    Interesting mix, eh?

Oscar Wilde was great. His works were amazing and he was quite, well, witty.
And I find everything about Hitler interesting. I read the beginning of Mein Kampf, his views, although monstrous, are fascinating.

Albert Eintstein I guess. We have so much to thank him for, our science technology wouldn't be what it is today if it weren't for him. It's amazing how much he did and discovered, and from what age he did it from.

Also, Martin Luther King Jr for what he did.

I also find people like Hitler, Mussolini and Stalin interesting. Hate what they did but it's interesting.

    Cliff Burton.

Florence Nightingale - a truly inspirational woman. All of us today benefit from the role she played in founding the modern day nursing profession.

Heinrich Himmler. I mean I don't actually LIKE him but I think he was really disturbing and fascinating at the same time. Him and Heydrich were really interesting. Very odd and inhumane but interesting.

Finally, people who agree with me that Hitler is interesting. I tell people that Hitler is fascinating, and they think I'm a fucking Nazi.

    Whatever.

Oh, and John F. Kennedy and Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Their my two favorite presidents, and I think they were such strong, and good spirited people. Their the two people America could use right now.

And...Edgar Allen Poe. He was fucking epic. Sick, much like my fascination with Hitler and Stalin, but amazing.

Richard the Second for no reason in particular.

    Sylvia Plath.

    William Wallace (obviously). FREEDOM!

Overall favourite would have to be Edmund Blackadder who was a servant to the Prince Regent.

Kidding. It's really plain old Rasputin - The Original Captain Jack Harkness. Can't die and is a love machine - alledgedly.

    Che Guevara.
If all revolutionaries were like him, the world would be a better place.

Hitler - I happen to think he was a genius, albeit a mad one.
Sophocles - What can I say? He was amazing.

I also think Lenin is pretty epic at the moment, too.
    :tehe:

    [EDIT]
Kmart. - I agree with you.
Edgar Allen Poe was the absolute man and one of the greatest poets/story writers to ever live.

I don't think Hitler was that interesting as a person or that his mentality was.
He just killed many people. And we find that interesting.
    ^____________^

My favorite historical persons are -among others: Cicero, Cyrus, Darius, Gandhi, Alexandre the Great, Caesar, Cleopatra, Martin Luther King, Tagore, Carmen Silva/Queen Mary and hm many many many others.

    I agree with that.
Hitler is interesting, because he commited mass genocide and managed to keep it secret for some years.

Though what I find fascinating about him were his ideas and beliefs in general.
And also how he invoked such loyalty among the Germans before they found out about the concentration camps.
He was popular, you gotta admit.
I'd love to read Mein Kampf.

Really, Hitler was neither the first nor the last ultra-nationalist dictator.

So what? He did it so brutally and on such a large scale.
Some people just find him interesting. Not just what he did, but why and whatnot.

Stalin killed a lot more people.
    ^_^
I just think it's immature to get all ''woaahh...woaaahh'' when it comes to Hitler and to think the death of so many people is ''interesting''.
