Seeing as I don't like learning about history very much. I can't say I have a lot of favourite people.
But one would have to be Charles Darwin. And Edgar Allen Poe.
And the man who was the first to climb Mount Everest. I admire him.
Oh my, I love Edgar Allan Poe. In Love
A year or so back I went to see some family in Richmond Virginia and they dragged to the Edgar Allan Poe Museum. It was extremely extremely interesting. :]

    The Doctor:
    Arthur Eddington.

Because he owned. He proved Einsten's General Theory of Relativity right!
I agree! Did you watch Arthur and Eddington? I found it really interesting.

I'd have to say... Queen Elizabeth, Anne Boleyn- I don't particularly like her but I find it amazing that the religion and course of history of England was changed because of her. Emily Bronte, Jane Austen, Boudica, Oscar Wilde, Winston Churchill

-Merlin . . . Okay so he is a myth, but I believe there is some truth to it. Plus I was named after him. :]
Actually, I was watching something on the History channel about the legitimacy of 12-21-2012, and apparently Merlin was real (albeit tweeked for the Arthurian stories) and he predicted that in the 21st century, a darkness would envelope the earth (referring, perhaps, to the black hole developing in the Milky Way galaxy right now). Rather than a wizard, he was prophet.

So he is a legitimate person in history. :o

I personally do not see how Hitler is the least bit interesting. Now Anne Frank is a different story. But Hitler is just confusing. He hated Jews, yet his own mother was Jew. He doesn't get any weirder than that.
I have a theory about that, albeit an outlandish one. I think Hitler may have suffered from a mild form of split personality disorder. Most people who develop split personality disorder do so because they do not want to endure their suffering; by creating a new personality, the personality endures it but the actual person feels as though s/he does not. S/he may have memories of the suffering through the personality's perspective, but as far as they're concerned, it happend strictly to the personality. Hitler was raised in a Jewish household and yet he hated Jews. He believed in a ultimate race in which blond hair and blue eyes were perfect, but he himself had brown hair and brown eyes. He envisioned Germany as the most powerful nation on Earth, yet he was from Austria (note, though, that his ancestors were from Bavaria, which is a state in Germany). I think Hitler hated himself for whatever reason (perhaps he thought of himself as weak or ugly), and he hated himiself so much that he actually created a personality in which he could be what he considered stronger and better. Either a mild case of split personality disorder or a strong case of borderline personality disorder (which I think he was actually diagnosed with).
That theory actually makes sense 0_0

I agree with the Wilde, Da Vinci, and Napoleon fans too Smiley

Hannibal. He's like in the times where the Roman Empire existed. He had good strategies in defeating the Romans.

I just thought he was a genuinely good, humble god-fairing man. I like the portrait 'Prayer at Valley Forge.' :)

Sir Edmund Hilary - first person to climb Everest - is a wonderful representation of New Zealand greatness. He was a brilliant man.

I think mine might be Anne Boleyn, because she plotted so much to get to where she wanted to be, and got her head cut off anyway.
Plus she was Elizabeth I (my second fav)'s mother (:

Since seeing "Valkyrie" and reading more about Claus von Stauffenberg, I would like to add him to my list. It takes guts to stare evil in the eye rather than stand by its side.

Countess Elizabeth Báthory- She bathed in the blood of virgins because she believed that it made her younger. She was accused of killing over 600 peasent and noble girls. She's completely insane, but I find her incredibly interesting.

Vlad (Dracula) Tepes- He is hailed as a hero in Romania because he defended Wallachia and Transylvania from the Ottomans, but everywhere else in the world he is considered a monster who impaled people for fun.
