I've been thinking about what is there stereotypical image of how people from a certain country look like. I'm half German and some people after I tell them can see it in me and others can't in the slightest so I just started wondering what makes people look like they’re from a certain country. I know some are self explanatory but I just wanted to know what you guys think.

    I love British stereotypes.

I don't know specifically if we all share a similar appearance because there has been so much immigration over the centuries that it would be impossible, although I've heard that we have bad teeth.

But yeah, I love the stereotypes people have about Britain, I find them hilarious. Especially about the tea-drinking, horrible weather, cucumber sandwiches, red buses and the queen and our silly accents. It's one of the reasons I like being British, actually :con:

    I second all of that.

Weather thing is true though, my house is still flooded. :file:

The best way to describe our weather would be 'unsettled'.

I also love the fact I've met people who think the Queen is still incharge of Britain every day. 'tis not the 13th century. :file:

We have a government, they're just rubbish is all.

    Scotland.
    Tartin kilts, ginger hair.
    Agressive.

Oh, we also play the bag pipes a lot, and the thistle is our national icon.

Edit: Willie from the Simpson's is a good example.

I'd personally hate to know what other people think of New Zealanders. A lot of the time people ask me if I'm from Aussie - that's when I went to America, anywhore. It kinda pissed me off, considering Australia is like NZ's number one rival. :tehe:

I think that people probably look at us as the people who go to the beach lots, have a bbq for dinner all the time, eat fish & chips, never has war, plays a shit load of rugby, do the haka & say things like "sweet as" and "'sup bro" an awful lot.

I'm ashamed to say that we're also known for our national icons - the silver fern which is actually white, & the Kiwi, a small, brown flightless bird. Depressing, much?

Everytime I say I'm from Northern Ireland, everyone automatically thinks to run, cause they class us as like 'hooligans' or something.. :XD

People think of the Sinn Fein, and then think we're rioters..

Honestly, I wish I didn't live here. People here get so much abuse. It's not my fault I was born here, is it?

I live in lovely Transylvania. Don't even get me started with the vampires. >_< Our tourist adds are completely ridiculous and un-realistic, I don't blame people for being mislead by them.
Then there's the Ex-Communist deal, everyone looks down on Eastern Europe and considers it miles and miles away from the West. It's not really true. The economy is booming.
An other thing that bothers me is how we're looked down as the poor relatives in the EU now. Romanian workers are not going to flood the west and take over all the good jobs. There are plenty well-paid jobs here too.
Plus, you said exactly the same thing about the Polish when they joined the union.

We're different from what you see in movies or adds. I guess everyone is.

I am Italian and Irish, though both my first and last name are very Italian-sounding, so sometimes people assume that we're typical Italian assholes--one guy even thinking that we were affiliated with the mafia.
    Our stereotypes are:
    -we're affiliated with mafia crime
    - we are the mafia.
    - we love spaghetti and any other type of Italian meal above all other kinds of food (even though, somebody told me once spaghetti wasn't even originally Italian
    - we all watch The Sopranos (it doesn't help that my dad actually did love and watch The Sopranos all years that it was on, and I'm starting to get into it too :lmfao:.)

I'm also from Vermont, which has a whole set of separate stereotypes of its own:
    - we're all woodchucky people (a sub-type of rednecks, meaning we all live on rickety farms and have the intelligences of rocks)
    - we love maple syrup
    - we all hunt deer and moose for a living
    - we're all liberal hippies.
Seriously, the only thing Vermonters have to be proud of is freakin Ben and Jerry's ice cream, and even then, Ben and Jerry were considered typical Vermonter hippies.

I also love how when I went to America I was asked if I'd met the queen several times.

I was like: 'Uhh suree' :file:

And there's no such thing as a city, except for when somebody talks about the Opera House, and we all wear those hats with the corks on them.

    Oh, and it's always sunny.

Heh...I'm Native American and sometimes I'm asked:

    - If I live in a teepee
    - What's my Indian name
    - Do I hunt buffalo
    - Do I have visions and quests
    - Have I ever participated in a peyote ceremony

and the icing on the cake

    - Do I have any spare peyote I could give

You rode a kangaroo to Panic, if memory serves! :grr:
    :tehe:
Yeah, and there's only about 17 people living here, and it takes us 4 hours to ride our bikes to the neighbours.
S'cuse me, but I can hear my neighbours have sex at night and they're not that loud! :grr:

I'm from South Africa, so I get asked a lot of dumb questions.
Like,"Do you have wild animals, like lions and stuff in your backyard?". I sometimes can't believe I've seriously been asked that, but I guess a lot of people view Africa as a wildlife kind of place where people live in huts and still hunt. Colonialism took that away!

I hate these, I'm friends with many people who are from China, and they are assumed to be stupid. My best friend, Valerie has better English than any Native speakers.
I also hate how people assume that people from other Countries aren't pretty or fit etc... I think Cantonese people are gorgeous.
