Few people are actually, truly original anymore.
Has anyone noticed that almost every single story on this site is a fanfic of some band? EX; MCR, FOB, P!ATD, etc. This isn't a fanfic site, really. It's for all types of works. But of course everyone can write about anything they please to, but good lord, somebody needs to be original. It seems as though every story is the same now. Come up with OCs and an original storyline, for once...
If anyone has realized, there is no limitation of what you can write, so don't write what everyone else is...

yeah I tried to write a fan fic once about mcr on INO-it sucked and it made me feel creepy because I didn't like making real people do things for a story. and I kind of feel like those stories are disrespectful to the people they're writing about because they're none of our bussiness what they might be doing in they're personel lives really. I try to be original but I'm not a great writer anyway and I am too easily tempted to delete what I write.

I don't like to write stories without at least one or two original characters to be honest.
I mean, it's easy to twist real people into what you want them to be, but it's more of a challenge and more interesting to read about a character that the author just came up with out of the blue. That's fun to develop and a good read.

I usually write about things I like (i.e. I like Vampires and the supernatural so I've written a few fics in the past that have included magic and whatnot)

Right now my writing seems to stem from random quotes/pictures/songs that I feel I must write a story about or other peoples requests/prompts that they have given me.

I like to read stories with an original storyline and interesting characters. The characters are the most important to me in a story. You can have a good plot, but if you can't describe your characters properly there's no use. If a reader can't develop a connection of some kind with a character, then the story's useless. I noticed that most of the authors here focus on the plot rather than characters' state of mind and that bothers me, 'cause without characters there's no plot.
    And considering topics: I'll read any, as long as it's beautifully written. I'm picky when it comes to that :}

I like to use band members, but some of my stories...okay there's only one right now that won't mention MCR, I mean, they're in it, but it's a vampire fic, and there isn't gonna be a My Chemical Romance yeah I just thought I'd throw that out there ^_^

Alot of you guys who expect good and original writing to appear n this forum, is expecting too much. Sure, you come along to the select few who can actually pull a somewhat original story out of their ass (and I say somewhat because nothing in this society is purely original, just adapated), and actually write with some common sense. However, those are the people who live, breath, sweat, and bleed writing. They are the people who only do two things: write and think of writing. They are the ones who probably get the lease amount of reviews as well.

The majority of people who "write" here, don't live for writing. They write fanfictions because "LOL look Gerard and Frankie kissing!" They write fiction for the praises and attention they want. That's why, when you point out their flaws, they get angry and start yelling. They won't become writers; this is a fad to them and it will die off soon. They don't have the talent. That is why they can't think up an original idea. That's why they borrow from everyone else. That's why they write with simple words and can't string two sentences together. They don't have the imagination; they just have an overused idea that Gerard Way and Frankie Iero having sex is interesting.

Actually we don't expect perfection... we expect it to be READABLE.

We expect that it doesn't look like it was written by a chimpanzee... we expect them to write with the same experience as they write in school. They won't turn in a paper to their English teacher looking like chicken scratch so why should WE have to read a paper written like that?

Actually you'd be surprise. Grammar is no longer on the lesson plan for highschools. My mother is an English teacher and has to sneak in grammar lessons for her students because the Board of Ed has said that grammar will not be taught after the 8th grade. Clearly this plan is NOT working, but they don't listen. I have read papers written by college students who didn't know how to put two sentences together. The schools aren't teaching the kids how to write, why should we expect them to write well here?

You can't expect the battle ground for grammar to be on a forum. Though you offer great help, unless the people here have had SOME kind of grammar lessons in their past, it probably won't stick as well.

My issue is that good writers here are going completely unnoticed. I mean the ones with the good grammar, good spelling, good story ideas etc etc.It is discouraging to see someone who can't even spell a three letter word getting 20 comments, while you are getting literally zero. Though I am not in it for the reviews and praises, why should I continue writing at Mibba when no one reads anyway?

Tht'a what I call the 'Yes Posse' Syndrome. It's all about their little buddies Saying; "Gr8.. Lyk Super... PM me when theres more."

    *grumbles*

You're right... the REALLY good writers get buried in that nonsense.

I suggest coming over to GSB and posting in our story forum... We have a number of really GOOD writers who post there everyday who listen and will read other suggestions by other good authors. Recommended Stories

But when it comes down to it in the end, you need to write for YOU and not for the comments you get.

Oh no no, I understand. That's my motto to write for myself. But I can't very well improve unless I see comments right? That's why I have posted on multiply sites to see how I am going. Also, the thing about writers is, we write to bring enjoyment, we write for an audience to send a message. What good is a writer without an audience.

I write whatever comes to mind. I like dark futuristic sci-fi where the robots do the thinking. I also like sad WWII scenes in Europe near the end. I like short stories about far away places and people no one ever notices. I like rescuers and saviors along with the rescued and the saved. My favorite characters are enigmas and underdogs. I rather enjoy vampires. Writing about villians can be fun too.

When I started to write last year, it was song names that did the trick.
Then it evolved to song lyrics. And then it became both. i.e. Pencey Preps "P.S. Don't Write" became one of my favorite stories I have written because of the story line behind that song.

Now a days, I just use what happens to me. The situations I'm usualy in, wheather it's past or present. I just change all the names of the characters and exagerate it a bit.

That's true, but we all need some sort of appreciation, otherwise we wouldn't even be publishing our work.

When I write, I use my words and stories as a vent and just let it all out. People can often recognize my current mood from the chapters of my stories or from the way they were written. My characters mean a lot to me. I mostly use band members because they're easier to be identified with. according to some people, even though that makes no sense to me at all. I wake up and I think about my characters, what will be the next thing I'll make them face, will I work in another one or will someone die. I literally live for the things I write.

As for topics... I used to get great inspiration from movies. Then from song lyrics and titles, I still do. But today, my greatest inspiration is life itself. All the bad and the good sides. My friends often laugh because I love writing about prostitutes. I just love to write about the things people tend to be blind to. Drug abuse, thanks to Gerard, obviously, isn't one of those anymore. Abuse in general, paedophilia, underprivileged people... You name it.

The only thing about this site that seriously ticks me off is the fact that people who call themselves authors of some sort treat their stories like crap and then when they are offered some constructive criticism they either fall apart or bitch at you until one of you two drops. That just isn't right.

Damn, I really can rant endlessly.

    TOTALLY GET THAT ;)

I am the same way... the worse off my illness is the worse off it is for my OC. At one point I was so obsessed with figuratively bringing her down to her knees that I threw everything but the kitchen sink at her. It was bad...

I totally agree with that. Some of the times my writer's block for my story goes a month without even being thought about, not because I get it really badly, but because I don't know if anyone actually reads my stuff. I'll still write until it's done, just so I can finish my first story, but sometimes it feels like I'm a terrible writier, so that's why no one reads. </rant>

So yes, most of us will write for ourselves, but we still need to have an audience. Writing is an art, and, like all arts, it is as much for the audience as for the performer.

    I agree to an extent.

My own series is followed by a select few people. Those that read it are amazing writers in their own right. I enjoy their comments and that's fine but it doesn't motivate me to write. I don't write for them, I still write for me. I know in that my writing is good(not great...mind you) and I don't need the affirmation of adoring fans.

My singing is the same way. I know I have a good voice(not great...mind you) and I don't need to have applause after every song. If the people are dancing and enjoying themselves that's good enough for me, it means more than the "clap because the song it over"

Maybe what I'm trying to say it's the QUALITY of the comments rather than the QUANTIY that means something to me....

    YES.

It's the quality. I tend to look back at the things I wrote and enjoy reading them. I am harsh at reviewing stories and when I read one of mine and actually like it (and that's rather rare...) I feel proud and special.

Not many can write. I mean we can all type up a bunch of words describing random events and thoughts, but only a few can write and embed their heart and soul into their words. When I read a piece like that I am usually left gasping and admiring the author. I always leave a review, mostly because I know it would cheer them up, but also because they deserve to know that there is someone here who enjoys and reads the products of their hard work.

You don't sing for the applaud, but for yourself, and yet you still do enjoy hearing it, right? It's rather good for the ego. XD

But what bugs me for the most part are the 'gr8's and 'mor plz' comments. If I live for those words, I stand firmly in my belief that those who read them should at least offer one good reason why they liked them.
