So everyone probably has something they do while writing, either physically or mentally.

Like, personally, if my characters are doing something that I can recreate I will. Like in the one-shot I'm currently writing, the girl is lying across her bed with her hair across her face. So, to plan the story, I assumed the same position.
Or if they're drinking a cup of coffee or something I'll actually make myself a cup of coffee. I think it helps me to think, because I'm... closer to them in a sense.

I also tend to pinch my bottom lip while I'm writing. The more absorbed I am in the story, the harder I pinch.

And whenever I'm thinking I have a tendancy to play with a strand of my hair - twirling it between my fingers or running it across my lips or something. Since while I'm writing I'm usually concentrating pretty hard, I guess I play with my hair a lot. :XD

So, do you have any habits or quirks? Little things you do when you write?

Depending on my mood, I drink a little Baileys while I write.

I'll occasionally make an expression similar to the one I'm describing. xD
And I usually play with my nails, too, when I'm thinking of what to write next.

I speak my dialogue, just to make sure that it flows and it doesn't sound forced or anything. :XD

^ I do that too. Then my parents walk in the room and are like, 'wtf are you doing?'

And also, I'll randomly get up out of my seat and walk round the room once or twice then sit back down, even if I'm in a flow. If I'm stuck I'll procrastinate and go make myself a drink or get some food or something, which I really need to stop doing before I eat the house out of chocolate biscuits. :XD

I have a necklace, and I run the pendant across my lips if I'm concentrating.
I also make the facial expressions that I'm writing.
And I always read what I write out loud, word by word as I type. It helps me think. :XD

I go into like a trance until I've written 500 words

Then I tend to scribble it out and rewrite it til I get tired and decide to leave it be

I have to have a pen in my mouth.
It doesn't matter if I'm working on my computer or in a notebook, but I HAVE to have a pen of some sort in my mouth

And I also can't be able to see my working space.
Like, it has to be covered in papers or I get distracted.

I was pinching my lip while I was reading about you pinching your lip. o__o That was odd.

Anyway, I never really notice that I do things while I write, but I know I make stupid faces to match the emotions of the characters as I go, and sometimes if they say something I'm particularly interested in I'll repeat it out loud. I also do this when I'm thinking/planning. It's come from the habit of participating in scenes from my imagination.

Something I notice I do, is that if I write that the character snorts, I will too. Not pig snorting, of course. Just that thing where you blow air out of your nose to show amusement. x] That is my classification of snorting, sometimes combined with it catching slightly in the back of their throat. So it's not like I sound like a pig when I write or anything. >.>

I listen to music and I tend to run around the room :shifty
Also, I kinda tend to pause and look into nothing. Sometimes I fumble with whatever I have in my hand until inspiration slaps me upside the head :con:
And I kinda to pick up words from random things. I read food labels or any type of label when I get stuck or just blank :shifty

I listen to music. Once I'm on a roll, I don't stop. I bite things as well- my lip, my necklace, food, my boyfriends... no wait, I use that. :con:
Only kidding anyway. I've not seen him for ages...

I twirl the pencil in my hair. And my hair always has to be in a ponytail. Sometimes I'll just randomly open my cell phone, hoping there's insipration in it.

I rub my hands together, bite my lip, walk around my house,
stare into space, and usually have the music that inspired me to write
    the story playing.
If I'm writing a story that takes place in the 1800s or so, I cannot
be listening to the normal music I listen to. (Cobra Starship, The
Academy Is..., music like that.) It has to be soft, and un-guitar/drum-
    filled.

    Yep.

I can't sit still. I pace alot. Most of the time I have my headphones in, and I walk around my room, dance randomly, then go back to my chair and write another scene. I re-read it tons of times, do a little edits.

...basically how I write, in a nut shell.

I'll get up and walk through my house a couple times, re-read what I've written a million times over, and chew on my lip.
I also like to play with my necklace, my hair, or anything on the desk.
I'll shift around in my seat multiple times.
I can't sit still when I'm writing. I have to move around.

I pace. All the time. It's why I take so long to write.

Also, I never seem to be able to write during the day. It's always at night/

I pull the face that the character would be pulling whilst saying what they're saying when I'm writing dialouge. My dad was watching me right once and he was just like "... wtf?!"

I drum my fingers against the table alot, chew my lip, twirl my hair or bite a pen whilst thinking. Or write key words on pieces of masking tape and stick them on my desk.

I spin on my chair whilst thinking too. And then my thought pattern gets ruined if I fall off...

I pace. I pace and pace and pace, and walkin in circles. I bite my lip. I close my eyes alot, and just type whatever, then delete it and re-write it ten million times. I have to have peanut butter oreos, and mountain dew. If I'm writing in a composition notebook I have to use a pen, no pencils.

I also say the dialogue outloud. I'll read an entire conversation between two characters.

    I chew things as well.
I like to bite/chew and I usually need to have something to chew or I'll be distracted.
If there's nothing around, like food or a pencil or antyhing, I'll generally chew my plate but it hurts your mouth after a while. :tehe:
