What are everyones opinions on it? Do you think people provoke it?

Okay, so my dad hit my mum, pretty much ever since they met, and he hit her while she was pregenant with me, and according to my mum he hit me when I was a baby too, her cheekbones are busted from when he hit her, and it took him a month to admit that he was my father. My mum stayed with him for eighteen years, and had two other children with her (my brother and sister) he has seven kids all togther, now my mum can't adopt because of him, and I'm on a risk list.
So yeah, pretty fucked up right? :file:

So, anyone else had anything expirences like this or anything, discuss...

I went through domestic violence early on in my life.
At first my dad would only hit my mom when she would make him angry. My dad was an easily angered person so it wasn't hard. Since he only hit her my mom thought she could stay with him. She wasn't sure she could raise three kids on her own. Then my dad starting hitting my older brother often when my mom wasn't around. After awhile my dad came on my sister and I. It didn't take long for my mom to decide to leave him when she found out. She actually had to have him removed from the house by the police. He left when I was four.

Domestic violence is a scary thing. Not a thing people should provoke in the least.

my parents don't hit each other. . .

but i had the horrible experience of walking in on my friends' parents having an argument, which consisted of him pushing her into a wall.
    i didn't tell my friend.

and i was never invited back there again

Not my mum and dad but my mum and her boyfriend now. They've always...argued a lot, I guess, and on more than one occasion its got physical. I've heard him pretty much beat her up, which I have to say is one of my least favourite memories. I also walked in on them arguing once and he pinned her to the bed by the throat...:| It's fucking horrible, but has never happened to my knowledge since I was like thirteen. If I ever see it again I know i'll knock him out.

I just got taken away from my Mother on December 12, 2008 for that reason. She gave me a freaking goose egg on my left eye. She did it before but I covered it up. I didn't cover up that one. I actually have a meeting I have to do to today with her. Its a therapy session. If I don't go I get held in contemplative court. It sucks but I'm getting though.

i grew up with domestic violence. im 16 now, but as a little girl i used to sit on the living room floor watching mommy hit daddy. it messed me up, it scarred me for life. my opinion: if violence may come up, it should not be done around the children. especially when their growing up

I know my step dad isn't the worst, but that doesn't mean I can't hate him. He and my mother had been fighting for as long as I can remember...and I can't remember that much, so I'd say maybe since I was in grade five or six.
There's always so much yelling, screaming then crying, it was terrible... a few times he'd be kicked out, escorted away by the cops or whatever, I remember he even rented out an apartment for four months or something once.
Anyway. Last time they got physical was June sixth this year, had her pinned, always threatening, taking advantage of the fact that he's bigger and stronger than her...smashed the big hallway mirror and door with his fists (he always fucking punches stuff) and had his hepatitis C-infected blood dripping everywhere. He's no good for her. He's rude, bossy, always needs things his way and he drinks too much, him and I have NEVER been on good terms and I'm one of the reasons they'd always fight. Anyway, we've got a restraining order against him now after he got arrested, and my mom's trying to get it lifted.
I don't know what I would do if he went to live with her again. I remember the look in his eyes when he was about to go after me, the coldest blues I've ever seen...sigh.
I suppose this post is rather long. Sorry if it seems like I'm just going on, I guess I need to get it out all out or something.

My mom has told me that my dad beat her a lot. He would hit her like she was a punching bag if her was bored, hit her when he was drunk (he was or still is an alcoholic), he hit here when she would not give him money for alcohol.

I'm lucky that I've never met my dad!

Then my mom must have a bad streak because her now ex-boyfriend tried choking me too death when he was drunk.

I've gone through it as well.
My mother went to jail for it as well.
She's gone to jail a few times sadly.
    I'd rather not go into detail of it;
but my mother tried to kill my father, my sister, and I.

    It's ridiculous.
    I've never gone through it.
But I have been afraid with some of the fights between my parents, and also between me and my step-dad.
I fight with him about my mom.

Sadly, I have been through it too. My mom and dad got into a lot fights when they were together, and them both being an (now recovering) addict and an alcoholic, they had moments of physical abuse. It was horrid... Horrid, horrid images.

And my sister's (disgusting...) fiance has been in many domestic violence situations and most of his family has been in jail for it, or other things. -_-

My dad used to beat my mom. And sometimes he would abuse my older step-brother, too. Thankfully, she and I left when I was about eight years old. But her current boyfriend has hit both of us, as well. She sure knows how to pick 'em...

There's no such thing as "provoking" someone into hitting you. Their hitting is due to getting flustered or having the need for power (usually the same thing, to be honest). I actually bet there are more women out there beating on their significant other than the other way around because women don't think they're hurting the guy. I think it's terrible in any domestic violence case in which someone claims they were 'provoked.' How did a seven year old provoke you, exactly?

I've had a few domestic violence problems, but nothing overly serious. The worst time was when my brother went to live with my dad and he had bruises and bumps all over his face when he came back, and he told my mom some made-up story, but then he admitted to me that our dad smacked him around. Thank God he came home...

A couple days before my graduation, my dad's girlfriend got really drunk and started accusing my dad for hitting her. She then starts hitting him while we're in the kitchen and I was afriad she would grab a knife and stab someone. She's in jail now, but that night really bothered me.

What really bothers me is that when she accused my dad of hitting her, she had a bloody nose. I'd like to think my dad would never hit a woman, but I didn't see what happened and her nose was bleeding... Cry

When I was younger, my mother hit me a lot, and sometimes, my brother did too. With my mum, it was really a case of a power trip, that much I could tell. There was this one time where she wrapped her hands around my neck and I don't remember it really well, but I think I might have pushed her away or something... Shifty

Anyway, as soon as she got remarried, and I got tall, she's stopped, but the time when she had her hands around my neck was after my stepdad died and we'd just moved to a new city, where she was feeling completely vulnerable. Hence, power trip. She needed to see that she was stronger than someone.

Up until the age of about eleven, I was a really violent person because of it. I'd always push my friends, and get into fights with my stepsister, but when I pushed my friend so hard once that she fell over and got really hurt and cried, I took a step back and realised that what I did was awful, and I decided that I'd think about things before doing them. I haven't hit any female friends since then, but it does pass on - I have raged physically at my little sister quite a lot. I can't help it. I got it from my mum. Sad

I hope that when I have kids of my own, I'll be able to control myself, because it's just ridiculous to flinch every time someone near me raises a hand or something. One of my friends pointed it out once, and I hadn't even noticed. I had to make up some excuse, but I'm sure it seemed pretty shifty. Facepalm

My mom used to choke my brother and I when she was mad. Like if we took too long to clean our rooms, or we did something "bad" that maybe was just from misunderstanding. Actually, I can't remember any sort of "good" reason for her choking us ("good" as in, like, we did something terrible. No reason is good enough to be choked). She did other stuff too.

A year ago my dad threw me into a bed post and more than once has hit me since, and I think a few times before. Hit or grabbed me.

I actually forgot about what my mom did to me when I was younger (well, until I was 15, which was almost 4 years ago) until I met with a counselor without them knowing yesterday.

It's pretty horrible. I guess they replaced their physical violence with verbal abuse. Now not a week goes by without them aiming some kind of remark at me. Usually in a huge blow up where I'm accused of everything under the sun without rhyme or reason to it. But they don't think they're doing anything wrong cause it's not physical, and they think that by buying me things, they are entitled to say whatever they want to me.

My parents never fought, but I was raised by mainly my mother and her ex-boyfriend used to hit me when I was little. I was about 5 when my real dad got a restraining order put against him for me.
