- Maybe it's not necessary, but I always thank people that comment and recc my work, because they didn't have to. They took time out of their day to comment and recc my story, so a 'thank you' in the author's note is the least I could do for them.
As a writer, when I update, I'm doing it quickly so I don't always have the time to specifically call out people that commented/recced the story but I do thank them in general in the author's note because I appreciate everything I get. As a reader, I don't really expect people to do it though. I think it's nice but as Ella said, it's not necessary.
