Is My Name Really That Weird?

  • My first name is Alina, and everywhere I go, I have to spell it out, because I know that they're going to write Alena.

Also I got stuck with the boring last name West. I've heard every joke associated with it. 'Alina North South East West, Alina Westpoint/Westfield (two major shopping centres in Sydney) etc etc.

Not to mention, I get asked frequently if I'm related to any other West's people know, or famous movie stars like Samuel West or Adam West (Batman FTW). It's grown on me, so I basically shrug when they make petty remarks about my name, so yeah.

  • My first name is Kathryn, but I've been Kat for years now. (:

My last name is hell though - Pugh. Like the benches they have in churches.
I think I've had every joke possible... Peeee-you, Pug, Pug-H, Pube... it's kinda not funny anymore. D:
My granddad's grandparent's surname was Edwards, and they changed it themselves.
Which makes me think "WHY ON EARTH." but oh well.
I'm changing it back to Edwards the second I'm eighteen. :)

PS. Butterfly is such a cool name! :D

  • Butterfly is such a pretty name! I'm jealous.

My real name is Karleen. I hate it. It's not like me at all.
I don't know, it just sounds so serious and proper to me.
So everyone calls me Karley, which I like a lot more.
It just gets annoying because most people spell it "Carly."

  • My name is Gemma, and I get 'Jemma' a lot. I really don't like Jemma... I mean, Gemma is cool and Italian and all, but Jemma is just... ugh.

My last name is almost never spelt correctly. It's not weird or anything, there's just a lot of variations of spelling and it's not quite pronounced the way it's written.

  • My name I absoluetly hate! My real name is Erica and it's so boring. Especially the ties it has with my dad who is named Eric. My Mom had cool ideas for me like "Noel", "Colina Collie", or "Emma Catherine"

I pick to be called Lulu but no one wants to call me by that......So my name isn't weird...it's just boring.

Brace yourselves. It's all right once you learn how to say it ...

My name is Fionnghúala-Máirghréad Saoirse Collins. It's Irish. I come from a huge family and we all have big Irish names. You say it like this: "fin+noo+la mare+raid sear+sha".

I don't get teased here in Ireland, although some people still can't say it, but when I go away I get a lot of strange looks and people going, "What were your parents thinking?" and I'm like, "I quite like it, actually ..."
Dude, your name is amazing! :cheese:

Mine is Kathryn. Katie for short. No one's really ever made fun of it, seeing as there's not much to go on. Katie's a pretty common name, too. I have a few nicknames though. The best being Lettuce Leaf. :tehe:

My brothers used to make fun of me for that one. Does that count?
Thank you! I know a Kathryn, but she spells it the old-fashioned way, Catherine, but it's still said the same.

I have many nicknames too: Finn, Finny, Nuala ("noo+la" or "noh+la" ), FinnyNuala, or I get called Saoirse. Saoirse is Irish for "freedom" so it suits me =D I love it, though, I would never change it.

  • My name is Lois. Pronounced Low-iss. You'd be surprised how many people get that wrong. I've had Lewis, Louise, Louie, Louisa...I'm like, there's no bloody A in my name! But yeah. I used to get grief about it because I have a slight lisp (but according to some people, it's huuuge) so I was Lo-ith for a while. I don't mind it. I'm the only Lois in my year, and I like it. My middle name is Aishling, which is Irish for dreams or vision. All in all, I think my name is quite cool.

  • Fly? What's wrong with that? I think it's got soul, man. Believe me. With that name, I could fly to my dreams... x)

  • I always thought my name was really normal, it's Erika. I get teased by it sometimes, though. I'm the only Erika in my entire high school, plus every one thinks it's weird to spell it with a "K." I personally think I looks better with a K. :file:

  • Amia.

    Aw-meeh-uhh.

I dunno how I feel about it; it's supposed to be derived from Amy.

    I was almost named Omia...

I already get flack and get called "Mamma Mia" or "Amma Mia". :grr:

  • My name is Devin. And people always bother me because its the 'boy spelling'.
My last name is Hudyma (Who-Duh-Muh) and people can't seem to get it.
I've gotten some obnoxious mis-pronunciations. Quite funny, tbh. :file:

  • Mine's Ali. I don't like it, just because it's so common. Like really, three of my best friends have the same name as me. It's ridiculous.
And half of my family doesn't even call me by my first name. They use my middle name, which is Rose. I have no idea why. My dad uses pretty much every way to say it. Rosie, Rosita, etc. Whenever I bring a friend over for the first time their like 'who's Rose?' Hahah

  • My name's Stacey. Way back when, there was that song "Stacey's Mom" and it got really popular in my town, so everybody would just start randomly singing it. . . still do occasionally! x]
