I was enrolled in driver's ed this week. So far I've turned in three of my assignments and have managed to make 80-100% grades :-/ Anyway, I didn't see anything on here about driver's ed, unless it's in another topic for some unknown reason, I thought I'd start one up.

So, who here is in driver's ed? How long have you been enrolled? Do you do your courses in the classroom or online? If you're not in driver's ed, do you want to learn or wait?

I personally wanted to wait another year or so to give myself the mental readiness that I'd need, but my family had started to get so irritating that they wouldn't leave me alone with it. So I enrolled myself for online courses and viola! Now I'm a blob of anxiety, haha.

Another thing I thought would be cool about this topic would be for everyone to kind of help each other out with stuff. If you have questions, post them and we could all get back to each other.

This doesn't exist in Britain xD
I don't really understand the concept. So you have to go to a classroom to learn how to drive? Here, you have driving lessons (in a car) and a copy of the highway code. That's it.
I have a couple of friends who drive but I have no interest in it.

Here in the States you can go to a class or do it online. You have to write summaries of different stuff, do essays, learn about some theories and other stuff that doesn't even pertain to driving. To be honest, I think you guys are doing it right XD

Its so unfair! We all have to wait till we're 17, and then pay for lessons! GAH.

It's not unfair, nobody is making you pay. It's a personal choice whether you learn to drive or not.
I mean, you can't expect driving instructors to do a job for nothing.

I have my first driving lesson tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to it, although I'm slightly nervous.

I took driver's ed theory classes last year. Basically, I took them to get a discount on insurance and to able to get my senior license 6 months early. It was 36 hours of theory classes; so mostly just the rules of the road and all that.
It was really all stuff I knew, so it was very boring in my opinion. Then, through our school, you can also take 6 hours of on-the-road driving and that gives you another dicount on insurance.

I never took Driver's Ed. I did the home taught course, where my parents taught me, and I didn't have to take a road test when I got my license. Our school doesn't have a driver's education program and the local driving school was too much. About $400 for six weeks. The self taught was only $30. But I'm sure going to driving school is much better since I'm a terrible driver. xD

I'm not going through it yet.
But whenever we go out and stuff with the car, my mom gives me a few pointers.
She's got this goal to get me to learn how to drive once I'm fifteen.

    ... if that's ever possible.

We had a police guy come into our school and show us all gory videos about drink driving.

It was funny in a way, because the adverts used were Australian and at the end of the adverts their DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE message came up: "If you drink and drive, you're a bloody idiot!"

Hey, you can't fault the truth!

But yeah, here we just go out with a driving instructor and learn whilst doing. We have a theory test, but most of it's hands-on.

I took driver's ed last year.
It was 24 hours of class room education then 8 hours with an in car instructor.
    I absolutely hated it. Disgust
But I don't really like driving at all.

I took Drivers Ed and went to a class, I had to sit in a class on saturdays for like a full day in the same room with the same people, Session after session, It was very annoying but I paid attention and when I did do my driving with the instructor, Before I went to take my permit test, I was the only one in the car out of me and the other girl driving who wanted to drive on the freeway, It is scary learning drivers ed but the truth is I dont even like driving, It terrifies me and I only do it when I need to or want to get out because I am terrified of crashing.

In England, you can only apply for a liscense when you're 16, and you can only take the test when you're 17 =(
    I'm applying tomorrow Clap

my high school uses sophomore year health as drivers education. you spend a whole marking period (eight weeks) in the classroom, learning all the laws and proper ways to drive as stated by the new jersey driver's manual.

at the end of the marking period, you take the official test that the state makes everyone take for their permit, and if you pass with an 80% or higher, you get a card that says you passed and it's signed by the teacher.

then you take that to the DMV when you go to enroll in driving school. you have to spend six hours behind the wheel with a state certified instructor, and then you can get your permit.

i've already done my driver's education and i have the card, but i haven't turned sixteen yet so i'm not able to enroll in driving school to get the six hours behind the wheel yet. xD it sucks.

There's nothing like this in Australia.
We have to study and take a test to get our L plates (Learner plates), and then we have to drive for a certain amount of hours with an adult, or you can take lessons with a driving instructor.
And then once you build up those hours you have to take a driving test and if you pass you get your P plates. Which is basically your license, but with a couple of restrictions. :cute:

They've taken Drivers Ed out of every school in the county down here.
The law hates teenagers and they don't want us driving anytime soon.
