There's something to be said for folk music. Its quite nice sometimes just to sit down and listen to more traditional sound. I tell you, no song gets the patrisim going more for me than The Corries, Flower of Scotland, a great folk band

Course there are the revivalits like the great Bob Dylan and Ewan MacColl but it really does depend on which part of the world you hail form which artists are considered folk/traditional

    BOB DYLAN IS MY HERO.

    In Love

Even though he branched off so much from folk music and such.

But yeah, he's pretty much the only folk artist I'm into. XD

I fuckin' love me a bit of Dylan. Yes

My favourite folk artist ever is actually Seth Lakeman. He's such a great performer, I know that's said about a lot of people, but he's absolutely amazing. He plays the fiddle like an absolute demon, or the guitar and the harmonica and stamps his feet and does all this crazy shit while he sings and fksljrr. Yes. Anyone who likes Folk needs to listen to his album Freedom Fields.

And I don't know if they count? but I adore Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly. Plus Damien Rice, City and Colour, Old Crow Medicine Show, John Denver, Devendra Banhart, Fleetwood Mac etc.

Nick Drake's music is just simply amazing. It's a damn shame that he was taken from this world before his time.

His music is just so timeless. It's lilting and melancholy but despite this it's so comforting in it's solidarity and stark sound.

Does anyone know The Byrds? I love The Byrds! They did a lot of amazing covers for Dylan. They also did "Turn, Turn, Turn."

Bob Dylan...is just all sorts of amazing.
Bob Dylan, Dave Van Ronk, Phil Ochs, Simon and Garfunkel (more folk rock though, isn't it?), Devendra Banhart, Joan Baez...

I listen to more, but those are my favorites.

Dylan, hell yeah. My mother loves Simon and Garfunkel. They're fine.
I have listened to other folk music, but so far it's trivial.
    Dylan's coming heeeeeeeere in April!!!
    I can't go but he'll be SO CLOSE =D
Folk music gave birth to hippie music which gave birth to all sorts of awesome, and for that I thank it.

I must say I'm surprised to see Ewan MacColl come up. Mostly I listen to Irish folk, but sometimes I listen to Scottish, English, or American. Ewan MacColl is one of my favorite non-Irish singers. The Dubliners are probably my favorite band at the moment. I love how they rotated singers.

    Folk, aah, I love it.
Flogging molly ofcourse is brilliant, even though it is actually Folk Punk.
But here (netherlands) we've got two amazing folk bands called Omnia and Rapalje, although I've got no idea how populair they are outside the Netherlands.

So, actually I wanted to know, how well are they known?

    Hail Bob Dylan

I love how he branched off from Folk and did everything. =) That's so what I'd do. I love to sing but I'd never be able to choose one genre... Walkman

Does anyone like psych/acid folk, like Donovan, Pearls Before Swine, Dr. Strangely Strange, Trees, or even the more modern acts like Devandra Banhart, The Dodos, Fleet Foxes, and the earlier Neutral Milk Hotel? I love it In Love Donovan is like...I've got Sunshine Superman and every song on that album is like pure amazing.
